New to HHR

Hi folks, just picked up a 09 SS and started reading a bit around here and from what I understand I ended up with the stage 1 mod (Blue Bosch sensor under the hood)
What exactly does that mean? 270 hp instead of 260? 0-60 in 5.5s instead of 6s?
Did a lot of these get the mod at the factory or was it an upgrade?

All I know for sure is I want an exhaust upgrade; I need that low growling sound like a turbocharged SS should have. Those just come in one piece, right? Saw off the existing one and weld the new one right on?
Sorry for noob questions, I've only had the car for 2 days

Start with some searching!

Stage 1 is a upgrade from GM, which pushes HP to 290 from the factory 260.

Many exhaust options out there, gains are small with catbacks. Best bet seems to be to core the second cat and call it a day.

Welcome to the site.

Stock numbers are 260hp, 260tq. (auto.trans is detuned to 235hp in 1st gear)
Stage 1 or GMTU is 290hp, 315tq. in the HHR SS.
The upgrade is a dealer installed option. I don't believe that there were any ever upgraded at the assembly plant in Mexico.

Fwiw. That blue thing under the hood is a TMAP sensor, not a relay.
And just to be sure we're talking about the same thing, here's a picture that shows the upper TMAP sensor. (there is also a lower one on the bottom of the turbo piping, next to the AC compressor)

Yeah, that's the piece I saw. According to other threads here, I thought that was one of the indicators the upgrade had been done.
It does appear to be a Mexican model though, so now I'm not even sure. Just trying to get to know her.

ducky69247! What firemangeorge means is that all HHRs were made in Mexico.

We don't need no stinking badges! That's why everybody takes off those SS letters

Heh... But I like my badges.

So you guys think drilling out the cat is better than getting custom exhaust? All I really need is the growl you'd expect from something with so much power, but I'm not sure tampering with emissions equipment is the best way to get it...
Is custom exhaust going to mess with the power?
