08 hhr LT 2.2 compatible cars???

I'm swapping a blown motor. It's an 08 lt 2.2. I'm just wondering what cars I can get it from. Where I live we have pull a part, where I'm gonna pull the replacement myself. I found an 08 cobalt that hasn't been stripped yet. Due to the amount of work wasted if I'm wrong, I wanna make sure I'm right. I can take it back, but that would mean finding and pulling another one.

The easiest and best way to find out is to ask the junkyard. They have a crossover program in their computer.

There are differences between the 2.2 in the HHR and the 2.2 in some other cars. Basically you need a non-VVT 2.2L, manifold not drilled, no power steering pump. You will probably need to have the Crankshaft Position Sensor re learned, that takes someone with a computer that knows how to do it.

Thanks. Yeah, the one I looked at is non vvt, and so is mine. How much would you guess the relearning might cost. I'm doing all of the work alone pretty much, but I know nothing about that

If you take it to a GM dealer it will probably cost an hour labor, A local shop may know what they are doing and do it for less.

You will know you need it when your CEL comes on immediately with a code P0315.

You would be smart to change the timing chain and water pump while the engine is out of the car.

There is a lot of info on this site, use the search tool (hint: change "threads" to all"). Or just scroll through the how to forum "How To" Tutorial Library - Chevy HHR Network.

Thanks for the info. I've never swapped an engine, so I'm kinda using these forums and whatever I can find on YouTube.

The 2007 and 2008 2.2 are interchangeable, use your old intake and exhaust manifolds.
And Welcome to the site!

So pretty much, if I can get my hands on an 08 with 2.2, should be the same thing? I'm working on getting the parts off of the old one now. Intake, exhaust, etc. This place pull a part sells 4cyl for $179 gotta do it yourself, but worth it. Plus 30 day warranty, so if I get it in and it's junk, I can still go get another. I really appreciate the help. I can't find much of anything on the net to answer my question. Except for here!

Would you recommend changing out the balance shaft chain also?
