2009 and up Running on E85

A little info on the LE8.

The LE8 is an E85 compatible 2.2 L—2,189 cc (133.6 cu in)—version of the LAP Ecotec. Bore and stroke remain the same 86 mm (3.4 in) and 94.6 mm (3.72 in). Compression ratio is 10.0:1 and the engine can run on both regular unleaded gasoline or E85.

Year(s) Model Power Torque
2009–present Chevrolet HHR 155 hp (116 kW) @ 6100 rpm (gasoline) 150 lb·ft (203 N·m) @ 4800 rpm (gasoline)
160 hp (120 kW) @ 6000 rpm (E85) 158 lb·ft (214 N·m) @ 4600 rpm (E85)

I started running E85 and noticed a diffrence, after about 60 miles of driving in two days. Noticed my mpg go down about 1.5 miles per gallon. If you are looking for a quick way to gain some hp's and tq, E85 is/might be the answer. I am currently waiting for Vince to write an aggressive tune for me. I will keep you guys updated.

Okay, got the tune and it really pulls nicely. I can chirp my tires when it shifts into second gear with 225/40/18 on it. Keep in mind this is an auto. However, my mpg have gone down:

With E85

Of course your mileage went down. Alcohol has less BTU in it so it takes more gallons to go the same distance. Thus costing more to go the same distance.

As you can see I am quite against this Country’s green plant “Alcohol” lie. To think the government subsidizes this lie and raises our food costs.

I must respectfully disagree to this statement (politics aside).
I wanted to try the E85 to see and feel the difference for myself.
Here in Tennessee is what I came up with after several tanks of each:

GASOLINE = $3.45 per gallon (currently)
RANGE (my HHR) = 476 miles
14 gallons = $48.30
MPG = 34
per mile (cost/RANGE) = $0.1015

E85 = $2.99 per gallon
RANGE (my HHR) = 420 miles
14 gallons = $41.86
MPG = 30
per mile (cost/RANGE) = $0.0997

The difference may be minimal per mile but it IS cheaper per mile. Add it up. It comes out to a savings of about $2.00 for every 1,000 miles. It appears to me that it will be cheaper-per-mile as long as you can get the E85 at a price $0.40 per gallon cheaper than gas.

Don't supposed you think truckers and farmers having to pay $5.00 a gallon for diesel doesn't cause any of this? You don't eat this corn anyhow, and after the ethanol process, it's turned into feed. Corn isn't the answer, but it has to start someplace.

Corn is subsized, but so is oil. Who is reporting records profits? Not .

Wether or not I buy this E85 has nothing to do with the price of groceries. It's already refined and in the "pipeline" so if it's available I'll use it. And I don't know about you, but I'd rather MY money go to a corn growing farmer from the good ole USA than some middle east country who wants all "westerners" dead. My question to you is do you check to see where YOUR gas station gets it's crude oil from? If not then don't even get on a soapbox about E85
