The L61 2007 will bolt in but some sensors may need to be kept from your old engine!

That I'm not sure of , my 03 Sunfire does, but the Ion from 2003 thru 2007 has an electric power steering assist motor , just like the HHR and Cobalt and G5

http://m.ebay.com/itm/05-10-COBALT-07-10-G5-06-11-HHR-03-07-ION-ELECTRIC-POWER-STEERING-MOTOR-/141644718637?nav=SEARCH
Based on that, I think the 2007 is a bingo!!!

$1000 plus shipping for a 2.2L with 50000 miles. That's from my friend at the Auto Recycler here in town. I'm going with the 07 Saturn Ion 2.2L with 58000 miles for $400.
Pick it up Saturday unless I find a reason why it's the wrong engine.
But it looks to be a match.

Do yourself a big favor and install a timing kit and water pump while you have it on the floor.

All the gaskets, the rear main seal, the serpentine belt.
Expect to pay someone to re learn the crankshaft position sensor, maybe firmware re load.

And the transmission seal while it's apart.

Update: Got the engine. Came with the transmission attached.
Looks like a straight drop in.

HHR
06-08
4 SP FWD
L4 2.2L/2.4L
4T45E

ION
05-07
4 SP FWD
L4 2.2L/2.4L
4T45E

$400 for the pair.
What ya think?
