Replacing manifolds ?

Dear Members... Don't know where to post this so move as needed, Thanks.

I was reading a reply by a member and noted that in his post of things he had done to his ride, it stated that the 2.2 INTAKE MANIFOLD was replaced with one from a 2.4 INTAKE MANIFOLD. Didn't say anything about the throttle body's and I was wondering if they are different?

Didn't get a reply from this person but was wondering if this was correct and is there any thing to gain from this change (performance and/or mileage).

I would think the MANIFOLDS would be the same for the throttle body, from one to the other (2.2 to 2.4 MANIFOLDS). Your input please and Thanks for all.
Regards, JC

This thread may be of assistance to you JCC, at one time the 2.4 intake manifold on a 2.2 was a popular modification, but things like a properly installed Trifecta Tune seem to negate any advantages to the swap.

Seems not to be worth the effort.

Did the 2.4 intake mod (throttle body too). You will need a computer up grade or the car won't run. It will have a little more power.
I changed it soon and went with a supercharger off a cobalt. A turbocharger works good too. If your going to up grade, you might as well do it once.

Manifold changes ????

Thanks for the info, nothing like someone who has been there and done that, to talk to.

Want to do a tune but if any mods are to be done they must be done first or you have to redo the tune.

I would like to do an exhaust manifold change with larger pipes back to the muffler. But I read some post that say these changes do not help and did not improve performance OR mileage??? And as you state I do not want to doing something twice. I would think to change out the 2.2 set-up for the SS larger set -up would be the way to go. But can not find any post that will confirm this ideal.

Replies?

I tried a 2.4 larger exhaust car back a few years ago, not much improvement in the mileage or performance, then I had a Magnaflow 1 3/4 inch inlet/ outlet, wife thought to noisey, so I'm back to the original 1 3/4 2.2 cat back, and I'm back to 35 mpg highway!

I went with a Gibson 2.5 cat back system. My down tube is a 3" with a high flow cat. As the car sits now, I'm running 10lbs of boost when I jump on it. Hp is 235 at the wheels torque is 213. My gas mileage is still 33 highway and 27 city, if I keep my foot out of it.
It just depends how much you want to spend, to get what you want.
HP = $$

I had a ZZP 2.5" 400 cell catted downpipe and a 2.4 catcatback on my 2.2 and it seemed to wake it up a bit. May have just been my butt dyno giving me a false readout. I know if nothing else, the sound was worth the money.

But don't think mods alone is going to give you a ton of power. Mod it, then get a custom tune. That will give you the most power possible. And if you're lucky enough to have a flex fuel model, you can tune for e85 and have even more power.
