is there any measurable increase in torque/hp with a cold air intake?

Here's what mine looked like after I modded it. And now resides another members' hood.

well im trying to figure out somethiing odd happening under the hood and when I switched back from my Airaid kit back to the original airbox setup, it really bogged down the car!
I have been tuned as well, so there is a difference when using the aftermarket kits

You do realize that having a 'tune' to your prior set up changes all the variables.

As sleeper pointed out, the GMPP airbox construction does make it a bit of a heat sink, but I've insulated mine with Dynamat to help reject any excess heat.
If memory serves, sleeper used Dynamat or something along those lines to insulate his GMPP 'box.
The intakes to avoid like the plague are the ones which pull in underhood air, I guess the best description is the "Cone filtered Ricer Special".
And loud definitely doesn't equal better, although try telling that to the owner of a f*rt canned Civic.

john- Glad it went to a good home.. Good that you insulated it, GM shoulda made them that way.
Lizard Skin is a good heat barrier & sound deadener as well.. Can easily be brushed on.
After some experiments that I wasn't pleased with (All seemed to have same issue, low end torque dip feel), I finally went back to the stock air box, & it has no low end feel of a torque dip. Still using the same K&N drop in filter, from many yrs ago.
