I agree that the mod improved the acceleration through the rpm range, no real improvement from standing stop until about 3000 rpm. I have a magnaflow and couldn't notice any increase in sound. I will have to check the mpg when i get a chance. Very pleased with this mod !

Heh you read my mind. I was gonna do the center area ( with the humps) in silver to match the car finish and the rest a flat black. the maybe a clear coat for good measure.

I know this is an old thread but found the idea interesting and I have some questions about this setup for the air intake. First off, what was done with the stock intake hose? Did you leave it be, modify it as well, or cap it off? Secondly how is the end attached above the radiator. Lastly, any issues with rain and snow getting in the air box?

I kept my stock woolly worm, added a drop in K&N filter and installed a driver's side air hose like GolfHHR showed me at the Nationals a few years back I believe it was 2012

Thanks for the info. I likely will be making a similar mod to my car.
