The Window buttons have been moved to the door, is that just the SS or all 2008 models??

from the pics in the 2008 brochure it is only the SS

I think its the SS only. I had a 2008 rental car last week, and it was similar to my 2007 LT.

I would imagine that all of them would get that change. Having two different controls only raises the costs. Maybe a mid year change once the SS is underway.

But, we shall see.

This was another mod I was thinking of doing: Getting the SS window button set-up, and putting it in my HHR. I don't like the placement of the window buttons now, and even though I've had my car for almost a year now, I still reach for the door to roll the window down.

So I am going to find a way to get those window buttons in my car... :D

Doubt it will change any. The buttons on the SS were moved to make room for the shifter being moved a bit more forward. Unless the LS/LT gets the same center "console", the buttons will stay were they are at.

It would have been just as easy mounted the swithes on the new console. Time will only tell. Having two setups only increases costs.

Me too "better" I have already bought the switches and will do the mod over the winter with the new speakers etc...try to do all of the wiring changes at once...I guess I could wait to see if the SS switches become available through the dealer...

Yea Scaleguy... let us know how it turns out! It would probably be easiest to do it all at once, that way you don't have to pull the panels out more than once. It gets to be a PITA after a while  :thumb:

I certainly hope the window buttons are some day put on the door. I love everything about my HHR, but, the button placement. They don't light up at night, so I have to feel for them.
I think this is the one area they could have done better.

I just saw on the news the other day where a small child was in the car and stood up on the door arm rest looking out the window. The childs foot landed on the window button and the window went up killing the child. Be careful!

I actually kind of like them where they are. It took some getting used to at first though. I find myself reaching for the console when I need to roll the windows down in the Jeep.

I have gotten use to them where they are and like them there. I can put the back windows up and down for the dog and don't have to bother the driver. Had to be careful with the door locks and window buttons on the back doors of my Lincoln. The Dog locked me out several times and just about killed himself in the window.... No one has ever been in the back seat of the HHR but the dog......LOL

To all of you who want the window switches on the doors, how many motors have you had to replace due to rain shorting them out. I've had two that were fortunately covered under the warranty. They're not cheap and I'll take the inconvenience of where the switches are now over having to replace the motor repeatedly.

I don't think anybody likes where the window buttons are now..
and the halo light from above also.. I'm not ready to go into the light...

I do not think that switch location matters WRT motors. The motors drive the windows up/down regardless of switch location.

If the switches short out, the motor can also be damaged. Either way, it's and expensive repair. Some cars used to have the switches placed vertical on the door panels. Why don't they do that anymore?

Update modifications are good...

I've never had to replace a window motor in 25 years of driving, and this is the first car I've owned with switches that are not on the door. I'd prefer them to be on the door, where they belong. MUCH easier to put both windows up at the same time. LS

How difficult is it to use your thumb and finger to raise/lower the front windows at the same time?
I'm working on a method of getting all four of the windows up at the same time. So far I'm up to three while the sunroof is closing at the same time.:D

You also don't get the amount of rain we do in Florida. My only complaints are having to reach for the buttons, especially since I have to show an ID to enter a military base daily, and not being able to identify quickly which switch is for which window.

place the I.D. next to the window
