it might... although with the different models, the fmic is sometimes placed in a different location or a slightly different ic...

it would be nice if it did work though...

It won't work...sorry. It is due to the placement of the intercooler...for it to work, your intercooler would have to be somewhere around your wheel well because the SKY RL has the engine lie vertically and the HHR SS sits horizontally.

Getting one made would be cheap and easy. You can get pipe at tons of shops, just make sure it is mandrel bent. Removing all pipes with pinched off parts will be done within a month of me getting my HHR SS...so basically the intercooler pipes and intake piping. Also, if it is anything like my ION RL was...post cat pinched off really bad...

The most important thing to come out is HP Tuners getting access to the PCM...which should be easy since they have/will have it for the RL/GXP...then you can do anythign you want, especially remove the cat, turn off the O2 sensor and never worry about codes...

Also, you have to be careful with what all can be done until access is available to the PCM. The turbo is already @ 19psi IIRC and if the computer isn't tuned for more, then it could easily go into limp mode a lot.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed though that the area around the intercooler is more than generous.

Would there be a benefit with the hard piping over the plastic?

Looks! The plastic would probably deliver cooler air since the metal holds heat longer.
