So who's on auto and who's on http://www.chevyhhr.net/gallery/files/3/8/6/HHRInterior002.jpg

I had to go with the manual. I went with the 2.2L so I wanted to get as much out of my engine as I could.

Auto. :thumb: I hate sitting in a traffic jam with a manual. It is my daily driver so that means daily traffic jams. ;)

I hear that. We have some pretty good traffic down here, but I'm sure it's a quiet drive through the countryside compared to what you have up there.

My previous last 4 vehicles have been stick. I prefer stick-shift to auto. But with the Cali traffic I just couldn't do it anymore. I traded in my stick Civic and insisted on an auto HHR. I still have my 89 Toy 4runner whenever I want to bang through the gears.

Have manual. Hadn't driven one for 15 years but it is fun to drive one again.

Oh yeah, I thought this thread looked vaguely familiar!

Surprised CH the "Thread Sheriff" didn't catch it first?

Looks like I am the third with a Manual...it has been about 10 years since my last 5-speed. For the most part, I saved about 2K going with the Manual, so I spent about 2K on a set of Wheels......I really do not mind it in traffic...(at least that is what I say now...)

Agreed, having a poll is better. Also a lot of new HHR owners/members joined the site since then. :D

I agree with the poll. You get to see results. I have the auto. I'm in a place in life where things are getting easier.

When I looking the nearest dealer with a 5 spd was 40 miles away the next was 90 miles away. So I had to order mine with the options I wanted.

I appreciate the compliments on creating the poll. I figured there would be more with automatic. I've had a manual in all my vehicles except my last car which was a van, but I've always enjoyed driving a manual. The only real thing I regret is having to replace the clutch eventually. :p:

Wife wont drive a standard and this is the 2nd family car
i love standards and love the no hassle tranny's

and we do love the remote start, i use it all the time

Lots of bumper to bumper traffic in the DFW area as well.

had to get an auto because the fiance refuses to learn how to drive a stick. and with a girl on the way, and this being the family car, i had no choice. Whoever has Oliva, has the HHR.

I love the Auto. I love the Intermediate position that shortens the shift points and sets up the downshifts for agressive driving. I do share this car with my wife and I know that the auto is better when you are sharing a vehical. Let's just say that when someone else is driving my standard (whatever it might be) I just cringe, because they can't up shift smoothly or they can't double clutch on the downshift, or heel and toe properly. At work I drive 18 speed Roadrangers, so when I get off of work I like to let my left leg rest up a bit.

I learned on a manual and most of my cars have been manual shift also. For me it was a no brainer. 5 speed all the way. Besides, everyone knows that real men shift gears!!! :one:

I find it quite interesting that we have to pay an extra $1000.00 to get an automatic (Manual Tranny is standard), when statistics prove that more people purchase a vehicle that has an automatic tranny.

Shouldn't an Automatic be the standard transmission format, and if you really need or want a 5 speed manual, you should pay the extra $1000.00 for it?

5 speed all the way! Every car that I've daily driven have been sticks, my wife always get the auto. However, she enjoys the hhr tranny enough that she steals it from me time to time. I gotta start gettin up earlier:nuts:

We purchased an automatic, but since then we purchased a car with a stick for the wife. Well the wife didn't like the stick so we had to purchase another vehicle with an automatic. So you can bet your sweet bippy the next HHR we buy is going to be a stick and then she won't want to drive it. Many thanks for getting me thinking. My question to you all knoe is do I want to drive the HHR or do I want to be HAPPY, and I'm sure you all know what I really mean.

See ya down the road.

It's like that on just about every vehicle. All three of the brand new cars I have bought I had to pay extra for an automatic. You pay more for an auto because they cost more to make seeing as how they are more complicated and have more parts.
