View Full Version : HHR SS Pics from the Woodward Dream Cruise
bluestreaker 09-03-2007, 01:47 PM Just posted additional photos I took at the WDC of the HHR SS introduced at the Woodward Dream Cruise by Lutz. (Don't know how to get pics from the Gallery to here yet.)
Some initial impressions:
- The shifter feels quick and positive, not sloppy or cludgy.
- The interior is very tidy and uncluttered.
- Feel of the seats is more supportive on the sides but comfortable. You may not see it in these 640 x 428 pics, but there are different weaves in the fabric of the seats, surface, sides and back. Have never seen that before. Looks great (usually prefer leather but would go for this setup)
- Really like the window controls on the doors.
- Like the relocation of the rear spoiler (less drag)
- The turbo intercooler is located down low in front of the radiator so as to not interfere with the air flow to the radiator.
- Ground effects are well done and make room for the intercooler in the front.
- The looks of the back seat are impressive. Back seat was not an afterthought. Really looks inviting.
- Paint work looks first class.
- Polishes forged wheels also look first class.
Thats all folks.

misterjensen 09-03-2007, 02:56 PM Sweet work!!! Thanks a lot :)
Is anyone else scared of the front end getting scraped up going up inclines? It looks like it sticks out pretty far and is pretty low...

I thought the same thing. Sideways to get out of driveways, look OUT for speedbumps! Parking lot curbs, etc.
shaginwgn 09-03-2007, 05:02 PM Can't be any different then a lowered HHR. That's why mine is not lowered i am scared to lower it i like my front end.
MOTRV8D 09-03-2007, 05:09 PM sure looks cool though.
jjturcheck 09-03-2007, 10:33 PM Does anybody know how much this is going to be? I have an '06 with custom paint and a few other things done to it. It has 16K on it but i'm thinking that if i get enough trade in value, i'll go for it.
misterjensen 09-03-2007, 10:57 PM Well, we don't know for sure yet. A Cobalt SS starts at $21,590, and an Equinox Sport starts at $27,995. A lot of guesses here in the forum are pegging the HHR SS right between these two at a starting price around $25,000. However, with the announcement of the Dodge Caliber SRT4 at $23,000 (an HHR competitor), the price may be a tad lower. Keep in mind, these are only guesses until we hear something official.
BigMOCats 09-03-2007, 11:36 PM I'm thinking that grill and those bumpers looks like a very easy swap.
db0001 09-04-2007, 07:29 AM Get out the flamethrowers, the hood still don't fit down along the fender and the spoiler looks like something off a ricer.

Screw the fender gap........look at the gap between the grille and bumper. That's just ugly and sloppy. You figure if they are going to spend the time and money redesigning the grille and bumper they would at least make them fit together right. It gives a very rushed we don't give a damn about our quality look to the vehicle. When the HHR launched wasn't one of their big selling points the fact that the HHR was body gapped with specs like a European luxury car? I guess they gave that up.

What is wrong with that gap? It is only where there is a dip in the front bumper. It is nice and even and IMHO does not look sloppy at all. If I had a complaint I would have to agree about the fender gap. It, like all HHRs, looks a bit too big and is not a consistent gap all the way aroundthe fender. But is the same on both sides at least.
Body gap tolerences (which I believe was what was promoted about the HHR)are not the same as body gaps per se. The HHR fits tight where it is supposed to and where there is supposed to be a gap (by design or function), it is even and the same on both sides of the vehicle. That is where quality comes in. Nothing worse than a car that has uneven gaps or gaps that are different on both sides of the vehicle on the same panels.
MOTRV8D 09-04-2007, 04:33 PM Im just curious. Other than the white lid on the left side of the engine bay, does this setup under the hood esp. where the radiator lives, look like a normal engine bay? If not how is it different than a N/A HHR engine bay?

betterof2evils4 09-04-2007, 05:09 PM MOTRV8D.. I was thinking the exact same thing earlier today. Except for the main block and the turbo set-up, everything looks exactly the same to me. Fuse covers, the left container in the back corner....
This leads me to think it shouldn't be that hard to do an engine swap :D ;)
betterof2evils4 09-04-2007, 05:13 PM Pics of stock engine bay for your comparison:

MOTRV8D 09-04-2007, 06:12 PM engine swap? Sure, just jack up the radiator cap and drop it in!
Thanks for posting those pics. Looks very similar up front, even looks like the same radiator... hiding the fact that the turbo intercooler is down below the front bumper.
