Since it's been so slow on here recently, maybe this will fire up something...

Oh boy, these "Retro Car Wars" are on! Jason "Mad Man" Vines, PR chief for "The Chrysler Group" has a retort to "Maximum" Bob Lutz's earlier backhand to the PT Cruiser. Here's what Vines had to say:

"To quote Maximum Bob, 'it's just sad.' Normally, we have great respect for General Motors Vice Chairman Bob Lutz. But lately, he seems to be preoccupied with us in Auburn Hills.

Just a few weeks ago, for no apparent reason, Lutz took a shot at Bob Nardelli, the CEO of The New Chrysler. As we've said, Bob Nardelli will bring a fresh set of eyes to the company. But Lutz dismissed his hiring as a bias against Detroit auto executives who are "under-educated Midwestern idiots."

Then on Thursday, while at the Woodward Dream Cruise introducing the 2008 Chevrolet HHR SS, Lutz took a swipe at the newest special edition Chrysler PT - the 2008 Chrysler PT Cruiser Sunset Boulevard Edition.

He called the HHR SS "the real deal" and "not some special edition".

Hmmm....he seems to forget that the 'real deal' HHR is described by pundits as a copy of the PT Cruiser. Not to mention that GM recruited the designer of the PT Cruiser to style the HHR. Or that Chrysler has been showing special editions at the Woodward Dream Cruise for years, long before GM.

What's next from Lutz?

Sounds like he needs to talk out his anxieties. To hear his nervous chatter, you'd think WE'RE the one that is about to pass GM in total sales."

Thanks but no thanks, Jason. :thumbsdow

I still like the PTs though I've never driven one. They pioneered the small chassis retro thing that Chevy then made the HHR on. I have no problem admitting there would vvery likely be no HHR if it were not for the PT.
I hope both cars can stay a while longer in the fleets of their respective manufacturers.

I go to jalopnic now and then. A lot of interesting stuff there, least of which is their link to fleshbot:lol:

You are right though, dead around here lately. I pop in and find I've nothing to say. I'm busy on the photoshop computer processing image files from last Saturday's wedding.
Hmm, maybe I'l start a wedding pic thread:lol:

There's nothing really new to talk about on the SS, so why bother with a slapfest between Lutz and Vines?

well it's really no big deal. I just thought it was kinda funny that Chrysler and Chevy are taking potshots at each other over "special editions."

We could always talk about the weather. Or not.

A foot of snow predicted for tonight and wind chills in the - 10 to -20 degree range...in short, another balmy late summer day in Buffalo, NY:eek:

But at least with the PT you know what "edition" you are looking at.
It would be nice to have the HHR's done the same way. IMO :guns:
Speaking of the weather ...the high today is not 70 and the low is to be 45 :breakdanc

Overcast skies, light breeze, and chilly here in Enid, OK... Summer came to a dead halt and autumn is coming in for a landing... :(

 this is hilarious.
We got ourselves a weather thread here on the HHR SS forum. :rof:
Might as well, there's no news on the car.
Oh BTW, it's 76 and sunny here in Southern California! :thumb:

I went to Buffalo once on a Greyhound bus. Went to buy a Corvair from someone who promised no rust, been garaged, etc. I opened the trunk ( IN the front, rear engine car ) and saw the entire front end steering assembly!:wtf: The front wheel well was gone from rust too and I could see the tires !

I shoulda known better from a snow belt car, but the lies people tell ya ...I dunno what that dude was thinking, that I would miss that half the car was rusted away???
Anyway, that's my only Buffalo story. Not a good one, I left sleepy and pissed off! Went to Ohio next in search of a car. That story later.maybe......stay tuned..........

We have had the most beautiful golfing weather in southeast MO this week, and I've been stuck inside with a raging e.coli infection. Sucks. At least I got some good Netflix. M*A*S*H, White Men Can't Jump, and A Prairie Home Companion. Actually, Prairie Home was very boring and I wound up turning it off halfway through, but the other two were quite fine.

I don't have anything against the PT. I have never driven one but have ridden in one. It wasn't bad but it doesn't compare to the hhr. The special editions of the pt are just about the same things just a different color. The pt I like the best is the rag top but it still doesn't compare to the hhr and especially the "SS" when it comes out from what I have seen in IMO.

:wtf: Speaking of BUFFALOs, did you know that the WHITE ones on the PRAIRIE have COMPANIONS that CAN"T JUMP? WEATHER or not you have ever RIDDEN ONE, they're way more SPECIAL then a GREYHOUND that SUCKS RUSTED E.COLI flavored ROOT BEER from a CORVAIR's TRUNK on a CHILLY OHIO AUTUMN LANDING. IMHO, of course.
