<img src="http://www.chevyhhr.net/news/aa5hhr.jpg" align="left" border="0" hspace="5" vspace="2">Q & A For Chevrolet HHR Passenger Model Option “AA5”

What is this new Chevy HHR option AA5?
AA5 is an option that deletes the side quarter windows, replacing that area with a solid metal panel. AA5 stands for “Solid Rear Quarter Panel”.

What HHR models can I order option AA5 on?
Option AA5 can be ordered on any 2008 HHR Passenger model. LS, 1LT & 2LT.

Why offer this option?
AA5 gives the HHR passenger model an even more “Retro” look. This option also gives the Chevrolet Dealer another HHR choice to attract more consumers to the franchise. In addition, certain areas, like New York City require a rear seat to drive on Parkways. This option allows the Chevrolet Dealers to sell to small fleet, commercial & small business owners. AA5 provides “Panel model looks” but with front and rear door glass.

Does this option change the cargo capacity?
No, with or without AA5 the cargo capacity stays at 57.7 cu. ft. with the rear seat folded.

Does the rear seat remain?
Yes, the only thing that changes is the replacement of the two rear quarter windows with steel panels. The current Passenger model interior remains as it is today, including the rear seat that folds flat.

Does this option alter the current 5 STAR safety rating?
No, the quadruple 5 STAR safety rating remains intact. This continues to make all HHR models the safest small utility vehicles on the road today.

Are there any option restrictions when ordering AA5?
No, all current free-flow option can be ordered with option AA5.

When will option AA5 be available for ordering?
Ordering open up August 30, 2007
When will vehicles begin to arrive at the Dealers?

HHR’s with option AA5 will start to arrive at Dealers in late September.
Anything else?

Don’t forget that all 2008 MY HHR’s come with standard OnStar & Tire Pressure Monitoring. 2LT models even get standard Stabilitrak.

What does the HHR Passenger model look like with option AA5 (Rear quarter window delete)?
A picture is worth a thousand words.

I should have waited. I love that look. Dark Gray Metallic, rear window delete, ebony cloth, blacked out wheels, 1LT pkg w/ a 2.4 and auto trans. Yep, that would be the one for me.

I like it....:thumb: The panel version has no rear seats and it's really dark inside without the four rear windows.
This one has a unique "cool look" to it.

That looks pretty cool...especially for those that would take advantage of that rear panel with paint customizing or something.

Do you currently drive a HHR???

I have noticed I look back to change lanes etc., but is out the rear door windows, you have to turn your head WAY WAY far back to be looking out the far back window.

I guess my eyes do pickup some view from that window, but I believe it is minimal!

Tape up rear window and try it!!!!

Mark

BTW: I like that Chevy is giving Multiple options, and think this is a cool one! Still allows for back seat usage, but gives a panel effect for customizing or different look. As stated in another Panel thread, now that they producing the panel, this one is basically a panel with normal rear doors, and normal HHR interior. Don't think it costs Chevy anything more to offer it!!!

Kind of like with 1932 Fords, there is Roadsters, Coupes (3 & 5 windows), Victoria's, and Phaeton's bodies that all go on a the same 1932 frame, but all different body options and looks!!!!!

Ugly Blah!!

:D No HHR is ugly! (Unless you don't have one  ) And as far as visibility, It can't be worse the the Panel version, and no one is dissing that. That's why there's a mirror on the right side.

Hey 06'...wondering where you have been hiding.

But, what makes you think anyone would know the answer to your question? No one knows what is even available on the SS yet....option info not released, remember?;)

The Aa5 shouldn't be a tough "option" to build...all it is is just a "panel rear clip" with the regular rear windows in the doors.

I have found that my local dealer actually has one in stock!
I am going to check it out tonight, and compare the view out of it vs a normal one. I am still working up to getting a HHR.

Thanks,
Matt

I went to a dealer to purchase my 2LT with the standard rear quarter panel and ended up driving home this beauty instead. It just spoke to me so much more.

I took a little tour around the dealership as they were fixing the recall on My HHR. These models looked nice. I could see where if you are going to do some detailing This would make it alot better, Plus I hardly ever look out the back windows on mine anyway. This would give you a little more privacy back there as well as far as hauling stuff. I will consider this model when I get another HHR in a couple of years. Got to wear the one I have out first.;)

That's pretty cool & I'm kinda wishing I knew about it before I bought mine; still, I like my Panel.

I'm sympathising with everyone who's concerned about the blind spot - it's HUGE!

I just completed my first "customization" on my Panel - I went to one of those car audio dealers & had them install a "back-up camera".

The tiny little camera is mounted under the silver piece that hides the rear door latch on the passenger side of the license plate. I turned it a bit toward the passenger side so it's showing me what I'm not seeing thru that solid rear quarter.

The monitor is on the inside rear wall right behind the passenger side rear door. In effect, when I shift to reverse the power for the camera and monitor come on. I turn to look over my right shoulder just like I always have. I can see straight behind thru the back window and straight to the right thru the pasenger side window (& the fish eye mirror I added) and the space in between is revealed by the monitor positioned where a rear/side window would have been.

Total cost: $270

My bichy, cry-baby complaints about this system are as follows:

First, it's a cheapsh!t camera - the picture is heavily tinted greenish no matter how I adjust the monitor's picture. When the morning sun is shining DIRECTLY on it there's virtually no picture at all. All in all, the picture is best at night, when I really need it the most anyway.

Second, the mount bracket for the monitor was useless - all hinges & pivots and adjustable. The first time I hit a bump the monitor flopped downward and had to be lifted up before I could use it again. I cut out a piece of aluminum sheet & made a much better bracket for it.

Third, the monitor requires me to hit a "Power" button before it comes on. The whole thing is wired in to have it's power supply switched on by the reverse light but I still have to push the power button before the monitor actually "picture's up." Certainly, I don't want it on all the time, but would prefer to not have to punch the button every time. The good news is that it has a remote so I don't have to actually reach the monitor.

Just the same, I haven't backed over any small children, tricycles or baby strollers yet, so it's better than nothing. I guess you could say it paid for itself the first time I powered up the monitor and saw an old woman waddling thru the parking lot's traffic lane in my blind spot.

Do overs: I would go ahead and pay 3 or 4 times as much for a more sophisticated system with a better camera and a monitor that comes on instantly, but what I have is not bad enough to toss out.

I just bought my AA5 on Sunday 05/04/08 It is Victory Red and it is a beauty. Love I had been contemplating and HHR for quite sometime. I wanted to be different and since there are not many of these at the dealers I am different. I was also worried about the blind spots if any but the side mirrors are big enough that that missing back windo is no problem. Love it Love it Love it.

I got my HHR in June in Newmarket, Ontario, and I was unaware of the solid rear quarter panel option. The salesman, who was also ignorant of this creature, just ordered me an HHR and this is what I got. He had no idea this was available. I was happy, especially considering I am using it for business and will be putting graphics on it.

The funny thing is I have not seen another one like it. I have seen over a hundred HHRs up here, and not a single one is an AA5. I get looks from other drivers who have never seen one either.

I love the AA5's...I wish I could find one...I had no idea they existed when I opted for my 06 2LT(bought used 12/31/07)...but now that I know about them, I have yet to see a single one for sale within 200 miles of me anyway, so good thing I didnt hold out for one.

I do love them big time, though.

I also love the looks of the panel, but after reading so many comments about the blind spots...I'd probably pass unless a great deal came along.
