View Full Version : Ever watch that show PINKS on speed??
tleslie79072 09-19-2007, 10:25 PM Ever watch that show "Pinks" on the speed channel? We don't get Speed chanel at home so I only catch it when Im on the road or over at somebody elses house..
How much of it do you think is "scripted" some of it it seems pretty well played out.... almost too played out...
I havn't watched it consistantly enough to know all the rules... too many rule if you ask me...
I prefer two wheel Tuesday to be honest......
When I was in highschool (20 years ago) we did alot of drag racing... Nobody ever used the word "pinks" when setting up a race.. We all knew what pinks were but we luvd our trucks too much to lose it over a drag race.. Besides my dad would have "come un glued" if I lost my truck over a drag race... He probably would have let it go to the winner just teach me a lesson...
Ther was kid one time came out the first week he had his truck... two weeks after he got his liscense... and melted down the motor because he was runnnig 100% air plane fuel... He told his dad that I ran av gas all the time and never hurt the motor... So his dad called my dad, my dad interigatges me, and we laff our a$$ off cause "everbody knows" you don't run 100% av gas.. My dad called him back and tells him his son is just a dumb a$$
Turns out his dad called all my friends dads trying to get somebody to pay for the motor... Sorry "everbody knows you don't run 100% av gas"..
Needless to say the kid was on foot for a while..
en0oNmAI 09-19-2007, 11:54 PM Actually PINKS! is going to be filming here in Tucson in November (I think..) at SIR. They will be here for a few days. I think me and my friends are going to stop by and take a gander at the goings on.
JimDaddyo 09-20-2007, 07:30 AM You really don't think those guys are paying for their cars with all the sponsor decals all over them do you? I think the show is a bit lame, but I like Pinks All Out. Real heads up racing. None of this sandbagging, negotiating crap. Just go to the line and give 'er. Rich Christianson is not the best host I've ever seen either (just my 2 cents, for what it's worth)
Jim
betterof2evils4 09-20-2007, 08:41 AM I don't really like the show.. It does seem very choreographed and semi-fake. They negotiate on how many car-lengths one should have over the other, whether one can run nitrous or not, and other stuff. If you didn't come prepared to all-out race your opponent, you shouldn't even be there, much less whining because you know you're going to get beat.

The "competitors" are each asked to bring cars that run a similar time. Not all comply w/ what is asked. Why should someone risk losing their ride if they know they are going to be 2 seconds slower and not have advantage?
betterof2evils4 09-20-2007, 08:59 AM I can understand that POV, but they should be ready to race as though they were competing against the best. They should make their car the best they can if they're going to be racing for the titles to the other car. Make the car the best you can, bring it, and race. If you lose, should have prepared better.
en0oNmAI 09-20-2007, 11:57 AM I think Discovery should whore out Mike Rowe. He's one of the best hosts (Dirty Jobs) and narrators (Deadliest Catch, etc) I've ever seen! Now if he hosted PINKS! that would be awesome. LOL! I could see it now! :D
Hell even Jesse James or the Tuttle Family would work too! LOL!
betterof2evils4 09-20-2007, 12:00 PM
Mike Rowe... He is a good host. He is pretty funny sometimes.. He would be a good host for the show... :thumb:

IMO then Pinks shouldn't pair up those cars. They should at least make it fair. If you're racing for pinks, then you want to have a fighting chance - not get smoked because someone lied to you.
CrashMan82 09-20-2007, 12:43 PM They should let 2 impartial drivers do the first run with each car... to get a 'legit' baseline.

Either that, or some on board monitoring equipment.:thumb:

Pinks is a somewhat scripted/fake show.
It has been reported that guys that lose their buy 'em back for about $100 (off camera, of course)
But to me, Pinks is just like a lot of the other crap shows that SPEED has these days. When it was SpeedVision, it was my first stop when I turned on the TV. Now I rarely watch it.
hhr/49suburban 09-20-2007, 01:38 PM I agree , Speedvision programming was better. Now its Street Bikes.Tuners and Nascar. With an ocasional Monster truck thrown in. I too do not watch it much anymore. Pinks is lame and mostly boring to watch (it does look scripted). Believe it or not the same people have some kind of show on there now where they race motorcycles and switch to atvs during the race. It makes Pinks look good. I have sport Atv's and it couldn't hold my interest for more than 5 minutes. TLC and ESPN 2 have the better gearhead shows. Is the Foose show coming back with new episodes soon? If they do it would be nice to drop the whole scam thing and just show up and say where taking your car you can see it in a week.
hhr/49suburban 09-20-2007, 01:52 PM American Hot Rod:one: :twothumbs
mitzkity 09-20-2007, 02:34 PM BULL RUN!!! That's my fav
I watched Pinks a few times. The first time it seemed a little shifty. Second time I was sure it was a fake.
I liked that series DRIVE that they took off the air.
LOVE the one where they redo those huge trailer-hauler-trucks for people...what a hoot!
I like the reality shows where they center more on the work they're doing than the drama surrounding the crew. My 2 cents...
hhr/49suburban 09-20-2007, 03:24 PM Anyone see Top Gear on BBCamerica?
Not a lot of American cars but its entertaining. Some of the the projects they take on are hilarious.
Black Rose 09-20-2007, 05:57 PM American Hot Rod:one: :twothumbs
I like AHR, but can only take so much of Dwayne. That guy just irks me
Overhaulin' is pretty cool. The best one I have seen is the one where they "stole" John Force's school bus and redid it.
Top Gear is pretty good too. We get it on BBC World up here. Jeremy is a hoot.
tleslie79072 09-20-2007, 11:01 PM The best thing speed does all year is the Barret Jackson Auction... Since I don't get speed at my house I go over to moms and now I got them hooked on the Barret Jackson... At first mom was glade you came over every niht this week we like seeinf you and the kids... then she caught on when I asked if i could tape something on her tv one night when I could n't come over <<<BUSTED>>> Some day Im gonna go to it and see it live... I love auctions and I love cool cars soo it would be sorta a dream vaction... downside... can't afford the cars and the admissions fee is high enough to keep out cheap skates like me.. But some day!!!!!!!!
rcsart 09-20-2007, 11:35 PM Deb and I have seen the show a few times, nether of us really care for it. Racing for pink slips goes way back, part of the risk involved was the unknown factor of what you were up against. Sleeper as we all know look and sound stock but were well tuned monsters waiting to eat the competition. It was more like high stakes poker, I understand the controlled conditions in filming it at a drag strip. But if they really want to make it interesting they should just resort to heads up drag racing, let those who want to compete boast and flaunt there rides. Then cry over spilt milk when they lose their car in the poker game when they can't put their money where their mouth is.:guns:
longhorn 09-21-2007, 12:44 AM I Like Speed channel still. I could do without the thousands of hours of NASCAR crap ( how many shows can you run that all talk about the same thing ). The american Le Mans series is fantastic, F1 and Barrett Jackson are great as well. During the week its all monster trucks, PINKS, and Superbikes - not really my thing. Every once in a while Victory by design and American Muscle car come on, but not nearly often enough. BTW Top Gear is one of my all time favorites
en0oNmAI 09-21-2007, 12:44 AM I liked that series DRIVE that they took off the air.
I Tivo'ed the series and later burned it to DVD. I think Nathan Fillion is a hilarious actor (FireFly, Serenity, Slither...) and absolutely LOVED that show. I haven't hear much on it though. Wish they'd do a second season! Maybe after the new year? Here's to hoping!
britinamerica 09-21-2007, 08:48 AM Anyone see Top Gear on BBCamerica?

It is quite possibly the funniest program on TV without trying to be. Perhaps I'm a little biased as I'm British, but its one of the things I missed when I left the country. If you like fast cars, and just plain silliness and childish indulgence, then this is the show for you! :D
Now BitTorrent is my friend, so I can download them all the time!

I agree that was very funny, but the funniest episode HAS to be the Caravan Holiday one. I nearly fell off the chair watching it. They are complete idiots of the highest order, but I love it! :D

Just watched that episode earlier this week. Very funny!
Those guys take idiocy to a new level!!!
hhr/49suburban 09-21-2007, 11:26 AM Caravan was great. I would have hated to be the people next door.
I also thought watching them try to drive the car with the cement floor (mobile cottage) and finished like a living room was pretty good too. Maybe they should have not waxed the floor and fastened the chairs down....
hhr/49suburban 09-22-2007, 08:10 AM I think a new episode of Top Gear is on Monday night

Pinks All Out, better than pinks. Still has some lame wagering though. The cars are much better.
I think a new episode of Top Gear is on Monday night.
Yes, new episodes air Monday's at 8 followed by an encore of the previous week, in case you miss it.

You can also view classic clips on the BBC website. There are tabs along the top. Some of their antics can be found in the 'Mucking About' tab.

Smoke Wagon 01-06-2008, 08:42 PM Brenda and I are both entered in to the 2008 Season Finale of "Pinks-All Out" which will be hosted at our home race track.
Brenda races our Pro Street S-10, I will be teaming up with my old racing Partner to drive his 1966 Mustang Shelby GT-350 clone drag car.
Brenda's brother races a 1970 Camaro as well, which I am his crew chief and tuner...
if anyone wants to see some media about these cars, just say the word...I have numerous pictures and videos of our truck, called "Peanut", as well as Brenda's brother Tommy's Camaro-his Camaro is a enderle-injected 472 on alky-this winter we are motor-plating the chassis, and punching the motor out for more cubes.
14Thumb 01-07-2008, 12:09 AM I went to the Pinks All Out here in Bristol recently and it was a blast. It was the one were everyone was sandbagging to get into what they thought was the time group. Takes several days to do one of these shows.
Smoke Wagon 01-07-2008, 12:29 AM It is scheduled for a Friday and Saturday...then we have a Summit ET race on Sunday, so it'll be a 3-day weekend of racing...looking VERY forward to it.
fontana motorsports 02-16-2008, 09:12 PM believe me, you can loose your car, i built a car for a episode of PINKS in october, we had 11 days to build the car (a 90 lx mustang 331 auto) they told us we had to bring a car that ran between 10.5-11.00 we did, because they said if we ran faster we would lose the car automaticaly........well, we were put up against a full out 69 amc javelin that ran 9 all day long...we got sand bagged hard core and actually lost the car...it should be one of the first airing new episodes next week.. LOOK FOR TEAM HAMMER its a mustang hatch white/with flames you will probrably see me, i have long red hair. but we really got screwed...but if you watch you will see... Rory
