View Full Version : My Chevy salesman is clueless about the HHR SS
MOTRV8D 09-28-2007, 07:59 PM I just dropped by my Chevy dealer after lunch today to *finally* pick up the 2008 HHR brochure I've been putting off. The same guy I spoke to about six months ago was there, James, and I asked him if there was any new news regarding the HHR SS...
His reply? "Are you sure they're going to call it the SS? They're changing the name of the Chevy Cobalt SS to Cobalt Sport... so I think they're going to call the new 'supercharged' model the HHR Sport."
I resisted the temptation to roll my eyes, whipped open the brochure to page 14 and showed him the now famous (to us anyway) Victory Red HHR SS and he said, "Oh. Well we haven't been given much info on it. But you know what?" he asked. "Go online. There's a lot of info on it on our Web site." :rof:
What was extra funny is that both of the sales guys standing there were named James, and they both claimed they were the one who was with me when I test drove a 2LT, a red Spring Edition, I think it was April. Hmmm. Fighting over the commission already!
Well I have my brochure now and I still can't tell if I'm going to like the Blue Flash Metallic. That little printed chip doesn't really reveal a lot. Sure looks dark to me, I thought the BFM was a little lighter and maybe it is in the sunshine...
Oh well I'm glad I can get a lot of "info" on the Chevy Web site... geez...
misterjensen 09-29-2007, 09:40 AM You really need to see the Blue Flash Metallic in person before you order it. It really is two colors, blue and purple depending on how the light hits it. If I were you, I would do a local dealer search to look for any 2008 HHR LS or LT's in the area so you can see it first hand.
I'm in the same boat as you; I want to put my order in the day ordering is available, but I want to see the various interior color combinations before I sign off on the order. Here's to hoping Chevrolet gets everything on the website before ordering is available! (It should be in the next few days...)
MOTRV8D 09-29-2007, 11:40 AM I'm not ready to order one yet, just eager to get more info. I'll prolly be ready to buy in the spring. Need to put together a lil more cash and I'll be there. The fact my local salesmen have no info on the SS tells us that Chevrolet really isn't promoting the vehicle yet (ya think?).
HHR Sport... yeah right.
1Panel2NV 09-29-2007, 12:36 PM When I went to order my Panel (about a month ago), all the dealers I went to didn't even know about an SS model.
Snoopy 09-29-2007, 04:52 PM Just so you are aware.......
Sales people are the last to know about new models, options, etc. However, the Management (upper) people of the dealership have information LONG before the sales people. It's required for advanced orders....think about it. GM/Chevrolet doesn't send each dealer "2" of these, in this color, with this option. Generally the Sales or General Manager specifies the vehicles BEFORE INTRODUCTION, to have them on display as an order MAKER.
That is why MY dealer asked if I wanted to purchase a SS (which I declined).....again for his floor display delivery.
So, my point is.....regular sales people WILL HAVE NO IDEA what you are discussing regarding the SS, until the Dealership Management people make them aware of it. Oh, and they already have "ballpark" figures.
MOTRV8D 09-29-2007, 05:50 PM yeah Snoop. ur correct. Serves me right for assuming that the ppl who make their living selling cars would know at least something about a new model coming up. Like the old saying goes, they get treated like mushrooms: they get left in the dark and fed BS.
What was I thinking?

Snoopy, you are absolutely correct, however, if you are in sales, I would THINK you would want to do as much "homework" as possible to know the product you are selling to better serve your customers. It doesn't take much to go online or read the boscures that every dealer has to educate yourself. Sadly in every "salesman" I have dealt with, that has not been the case. Makes no sense to me.
Stealth 09-29-2007, 11:03 PM I`ve seen the Blue Flash Metallic and it is beautiful, shifts colors.
Blue, Purple...
06ChevyHHR, what`s the shadow on the passenger side on your car, can`t be the fuel door, too low. HMMMM:confused:
itschaboykenny 09-29-2007, 11:08 PM Looks like a cooler.

It’s a envy wart, cars that are not HHRs get them.
I e-mailed my dealer the week before Labor Day weekend (my b-day) to let him know that I was finally ready to get that HHR as a b-day gift to myself. He called me back with all that he had in stock or could get for me, and I mentioned the SS model I had seen on the website and if he could tell me more about it--he had no idea they were coming out with one!
But I tell you, by the time I went in and was signing the papers for my S.Blackie, he knew all about the new SS's! So maybe the dealer's don't always know!

Yeah Mizzou, I understand what you are saying. But the sales people can't review anything about the SS, for example, until their management people open and release the info. At this point, they haven't.
I would, as you suggested, expect a "professional" sales person to search other resources for some facts. But, again if they don't know.......
Also, this may change, but you really can't expect someone who is selling vehicles for 6-8 months (for many people, the car sales position is a temporary job), to know everything about the 20-25 models that Chevrolet makes. I understand SOME dealerships are looking into having particular sales people selling a particular model....like full size trucks, or Colorados, etc. Just as many dealers have 1 or 2 sales people dedicated to Corvettes or performance vehicles, a couple for any truck interest, a couple more for economy interests, etc. They now become "experts" in their given sales area.
