I believe EPA rates the HHR as a SUV, but my license plates office called it a small van.

Its considered a light duty truck. An "A truck" to be exact.

I agree and so does New York.

Chevy called it a Passenger Car (it's under "Cars" and "SUV's" on their website) as does my insurance company and the Massachusetts RMV. The salesman at the dealership was a bit confused.

I guess it depends on the insurance company. My insurance categorizes it as a wagon. I can live with it being considered a sport wagon.

GM service manual calls it an "A truck", "A car" is the Cobalt.

I consider it a Car. SUV's are truck based and 4x4.

My Insurance also classified my HHR as a Wagon.......not sure if it makes any difference in the premiums you pay though. I would actually imagine that it would cost more for a SUV or Light Truck, than for a Wagon or Car....Does anyone know anyone in the Insurance business that can find out????

If you want to hear something really weird, I have been thinking it is a light truck the whole time because of my insurance. I just got my new registration in the mail today and my NY registation has it listed as a four door sedan. So I guess I drive a four door light sedan truck?

Allstate in FLA considers it a light truck as well, and for rull coverage for the year I pay $632.00. SUV's are more here! I paid that every 6 months for my SUV or for my minivan. (of course I don't have either of them anymore.....but I am not complaining I got my HHR!)

You probably tricked them! :p: That's a great rate for a whole year! I just paid $1000.00 for mine....but I also have some stuff that some might not feel necessary but lady fenrir sometimes is a perpetual worry-wart! Which is good, because I like the Flaming Carrot - The Wild Shall Wild Remain! hahaha! :thumb:

Would the hybrid SUV's that GM plan to make give more then 30MPG is the real question.

It's the wagon version of the cobalt in a fancy retro skin.

Just be thankful they got more creative than the previous Cavalier Wagon.

If GM fans argue about the Honda Ridgeline being a truck or not, sure the HHR has a better case for not being one.

As for an SUV that gets 30 MPG, Saturn VUE.

That's cheap. What's your trick. I have Allstate in TX and it is $533 for 6 months - Full coverage of course. My 2003 Suburban is less that that at $503. Clean driving record, 30 yrs old, married... I think that covers all of the automatics discounts.

My insurance card classifies it as a Chevy Truck HHR. Agent said that in their computer system it is classified as an MPV - Mini Personal Vehicle.

Also, does anyone have any ideas when it will be tested by NTSB for safety rating? My agent said the rate will most likely drop as soon as it gets tested and has results published.

My insurance came in at just over 600 bucks for my HHR. My 2001 S-10 crew cab came in at $740.00. Considering we have some of the highest rates in the country here (Massachusetts drivers are......assertive), I don't think what I pay is bad at all.

man, you guys have some cheap insurance rates. we pay 740.00 for 6 months with a multi car discount. I'm 31, my wife is 33. no accidents on either driving record. Allstate in MI. also calls it a truck by the way.

Capt. you`d come up with the very word Mrs. B/B and I did to combine two words to discribe the HHR... A Cruck...
I believe it is classified as a station wagon, to our chagrin.
