Don't know if this has been asked or not. Can you install the tire pressure sensors on a HHR that never had them installed? Will they work? Mine is a 2007 model and just wondering if they would work.

I won't necessarily install them, but others might want to do so. :thumb: HHRcheater 12-17-2007, 05:50 PM I need to know if the 07 is already set up for them. Not sure if I want to, just want to know as well. hhrcrafty 12-17-2007, 05:58 PM Probably requires a BCM reflash and the receiver hardware if they're wireless. jdmcomp 12-17-2007, 05:58 PM Were tire pressure sensors optional in 07? If so there is a good chance you can retro fit. Other wise you will have to go after market or pay out a lot for the GM version parts. Mine is a 2007 model and just wondering if they would work. I don't know if it can be done but I was thinking it would be nice to have on my 2007. I will call technical assistance and see what they have to say. I checked our local GM accessory web site and they don't show TPM sensors in their catalog. If it can be done the RCDLR module will have to be updated with a VCI number supplied by technical assistance, similar to what we do to add remote start to vehicles. I will post what they say about it tomorrow. HHRcheater 12-17-2007, 07:01 PM I thought I read somewhere that they were an option for 07 models.....Will wait for your findings.....thanks..... 08 HHR n Az 12-17-2007, 09:39 PM My 08 has them Im not sure if you can just put them on as they are one of the info button function that is on the LCD. I hope that makes sense. I thinking that it would be a re-programing. an08HHR 12-18-2007, 08:48 AM use the search button and type in TPMS and you will find a couple threads on this issue. Believe this belongs in another section and not the "HOW TO GUIDE" ChevyMgr 12-18-2007, 11:12 AM :frown: I contacted GM technical assistance today and they will not or can not issue a VCI re-program number for tire pressure sensors on 2007 and older HHR's. I asked them if this would be coming in the future and they could not answer with a yes or no. Simply putting the sensors in the wheels will not turn them on to work. The module that controls the door locks and remote start has to know to find the signals to then give to the BCM for displaying. I told the GM tech that this is something a lot of owners were interested in, so if she would pass that on to the "powers to be" I would appreciate it. We'll wait and see what happens down the road. I still think it is there for the BCM to pick up. an08HHR 12-18-2007, 02:02 PM This is a "How To" just figured that since there were two other threads that it belonged with those since this did not tell me how to do it!. I don't make the rules so my apologies. jeffs396 12-19-2007, 08:29 AM Even if this can't be done with factory parts, there is always the aftermarket. www.tirerack.com has them. :thumb: 08panelman 12-22-2007, 11:02 PM I have a 08 panel and my question is when I buy aftermarket wheels can I swap the sensors or do I have to have new ones installed?? Later,Dave tireman1554 12-22-2007, 11:41 PM By 2008 all new cars sold in the US market have to have T.P.M.S (Tire pressure monitoring system) However, you can purchase an aftermarket retrofit kit and have it installed either using your current cig lighter/ accessory outlet or by hard wiring it directly in the fuse panel. tireman1554 12-22-2007, 11:44 PM I have a 08 panel and my question is when I buy aftermarket wheels can I swap the sensors or do I have to have new ones installed?? Later,Dave You can use your current sensors. Most new aftermarket wheels have a releif cut out in the wheel to accept factory sensors. In some cases you need a retrofit kit that uses a big screw clamp and clamps them to the drop center of the wheel.:thumb: jdmcomp 12-23-2007, 10:54 AM Tire Rack mounted the sensors and tires on the wheels and they work fine. The process for setting up the new sensors is in the owners manual and is no problem. Mine is an 08 LS. furious 12-23-2007, 12:18 PM come on guys. have we forgotten about these? :D http://static.howstuffworks.com/gif/pg-intro.jpg shaginwgn 12-23-2007, 12:31 PM come on guys. have we forgotten about these? :D Yes as a whole we have that is why the TPMS are required by law on new vehicles and people not checking their tire pressure caused the firestone tire recall on Ford Explorers. Back to the original thread.... TomsHHR 12-23-2007, 01:19 PM The nice part with the sensors is you can check pressures any time, I know I cannot run 55 mph.. .  crazybob 12-23-2007, 06:48 PM come on guys. have we forgotten about these? :D No, but it's hard to ignore the warning chimes when the TPMS can't sense the tire pressure. stick 12-24-2007, 08:13 AM come on guys. have we forgotten about these? :D What is sad about that, in ten years the new drivers won't even know what one of those are. They will just expect the DIC to tell them all they need to know. Hib Halverson 12-24-2007, 09:46 AM Don't know if this has been asked or not. My guess is that if the 08s have a LTPWS, not only are pressure sensors required but there may be hardware (radio receiver, controller, warning light and wiring) in the vehicle with is also required. My guess is, if the hardware is not on an 07, it would be difficult but perhaps not impossible to add. I've been told that there are aftermarket LTPWSes available but I don't have any details to offer. crazybob 12-24-2007, 02:54 PM I've been told that there are aftermarket LTPWSes available but I don't have any details to offer. Yes, there are. Post #13 of this thread: Even if this can't be done with factory parts, there is always the aftermarket. www.tirerack.com has them. :thumb: GOOGLE brings up many more. :thumb: Hib Halverson 12-31-2007, 10:47 AM Guess I shoulda read all the posts more carefully. But....in reality on a vehicle like an HHR a LTPWS is really just for people too lazy/dumb to check their tires. The solution is 1) a good tire gauge and 2) checking your tires once a week. Seems to be that's far easier than spending the money for an aftermarket system then paying somone to tear up your car to install it. tireman1554 12-31-2007, 08:08 PM Here is a link to the retrofit kit I recommend. I ahve personally installed this system on a customers older Mercedes. Not real hard or time consuming. Good luck http://www.schraderbridgeport.com/index.cfm?location_id=11404 scoty418 01-02-2010, 11:20 AM I'm sorry,I am from the old school.I think ya outa get out and use that tire guage.I wanna change my rims.I wanna get around the TPMS.It's my car,and I will take the responcibility for another "sensor". To me,this is just like getting satelite TV,,,ya pay all that money, and ya still get the darned commercials!!!!Speaking of that, even though I will follow the previous instructions on how to get older XM off my radio. How come we hafta have on there in the first place????If I didn't order it,how comw I got it?Somebody tell me how to unhook those tire sensors!!!!!I got a guage!!! IgottaWoody 01-03-2010, 12:50 AM Just another 'toy" for the toy geeks to like and dealers to use as a sale point.......pretty soon people will be gpoing to the dealers to have their tires "fixed" because the check light is on......it is handy when you suddendly feel the vehicle attitude change , good way to see if a tire is going down instead of pulling over and getting run over... Sno White 01-03-2010, 02:36 PM Talk about awakening a dead thread from 2007. How come we hafta have on there in the first place????If I didn't order it,how comw I got it?Somebody tell me how to unhook those tire sensors!!!!!I got a guage!!! Lets see: 1) There are two text lines on the Instrument Panel DIC that deal with tire pressure. This information is sent digitally to the DIC by the BCM. Without the support by the manufacture of the vehicle with nonstandard programming this will not disappear. The manufactures are required by law to install this feature on vehicles now; you will not get their help with disabling it. 2) The BCM receives the tire pressure information from the module that also receives your FOB requests to lock/unlock doors and remote start. So disconnecting this module will eliminate other vehicle features too. If you choose to do this expect other alarms or indications to occur such as the CEL. No, you are not going to get rid of the tire sensors without a great deal of trouble. I agree with your distaste for it, but I will have to admit it has alerted me twice to nails in my tires. Mr_C 01-06-2010, 04:10 PM I always thought that tire pressure sensors were unnessisary (and they are), but last week in my car I hit a nail on the interstate. I noticed my fuel mileage decrease (I use a scangauge 2) and pulled over to see what was wrong, so I managed to get off the road before it went completely flat but it was too late and I had already broken some belts in the tire (which I realized after plugging it and airing it back up). Sure would have been nice to have been alerted earlier. Also, living up in the frigid north, I admit that I don't check my tire pressure nearly as much as I should in the winter, It is just too cold out there. Mr_C 08 HHR LT 2.2 Auto |
