Thats cool. That means if you decide to upgrade you system down the road, you can upgrade both batteries and make them Optimas.

I think you only have one in the trunk... no battery under the hood (thats how it is on the Cobalts)

Only the battery in rear compartment, none in front. to allow engine and accessories in engine compartment, Where would a battery fit in the engine compartment?

I think you saw a terminal... for battery jumps since the rear hatch won't open when a battery dies?

What you saw in the normal battery position was the fuse curcuit breaker cover. The jump start posts are along side of this box/panel.

I have to check it out for myself. I also thought it was underneath the hood.

That's like my fiancee and I had to do with her G6. She's had it for 8 or 9 months now (bought it with 11 miles on the odometer...a little over 7000 miles now), anyway, we just found a compartment that we didn't know about last month and i found it has a second dc outlet (there's the cigarette lighter spot and also another one in the center console).

make sure you check every inch of the vehicle and find everything...we laughed our A$$e$ of when we found these things that we didn't find the first 6 or so months.

i sell them, and we went though classes on them, the only battery in the car is in the back by the space. only thing upfront are jump connectors and huge bus fuses and relays.

having the battery in the back solves a couple things.

1) keeps battery away from the harmful element under the hood. heat, moisture, vibration. the cobalt is the same way. the engineers have discovered that when you do that the battery last longer. mercedes and bmw have been doing that for years.

2) if you had to put a battery housing under the hood, you would have to take away a bigger engine and all other parts. this allows to put as much under the hood as possible with out sacrificing power, torque, suspension, and other thing that make the vehicle run quicker and quieter.

now if you need to jump the vehicle, you dont have to go to the trunk. thats what the jumper connections up front are for. and for those who didnt get the pioneer system, then runnin power cables for an amplifier are so extremely easy.

hope that helps. if you have anyother questions, feel free to email me.

Not meaning to be spiteful or mean or anything along that line (really), but I do have to question the wisdom of someone that thinks their car has two batteries, taking on a project to install additional electrical equipment in their car. In a case like that it might be best left to a professional.

Yeah what looks like a battery under the hood is really a fusebox. If you try to jumpstart the car using those terminals, have fun replacing fuses and maybe getting the computer reflashed. Many owners have made that mistake.

Uh, if the manual directions are followed, that's a non-issue. People tend not to read it and do, think or say stupid stuff.

The manual says to ground to one of the strut mounting bolts. Actually any ground point on the engine or chassis will work. This ain't rocket science here. :D

I admit it, I thought at first glance they were remote battery terminals. I think it would help if the negative fuse box terminal wasnt so obvious or in a different place. Maybe putting the sticker there would be better, who looks at the strut when jumping a car?

There is no such thing! :wtf:The point that I think you're referring to and many mistakenly hook the negative jumper cable to is actually the positive power lead to the power steering (cable to stud at rear of fusebox, or primary battery to some), causing a short.

I spent the time to read the whole manual and fould out all kinds of things ,,even the 2 hidden compartments in back of the rear seats that i would of never thought to look for,,along with the rear door release if someone got stuck in the cargo area with the door closed..
The fact that the front passenger seat folds down into a table so you can place a dvd player on it and sit in the back seat and watch it,,, with it plugged into the ipod connection to make the sound come out of the cars speakers

Yeah right, I feel sorry for anyone that does get stuck in the back, that manual release can take hours to get open. Go head, try it. You might die of dehydration first. :D

My SSR has the battery in the back as well.
Underneath the car, up in the frame in a box.
Talk about a PITA to replace!
I haven't looked for the batt in the H yet, but I knew it was in the back somewhere.

In my 2008 Panel it's in the passenger side rear quarter panel about halfway between the floor and the headliner, just inside the back hatch.

No. I have had the occasional dead batteries in other vehicles because I have left the lights on working or played the radio for too long and then not been able to start the vehicle far away from any civilization.

This is insurance. The two batteries are separated by a constant duty solenoid that is only activated when the fuel pump is operating. Thus anytime the engine is running both batteries are being charged, but the spare battery is disconnected at other times.

Took pete for an oil change and he wouldn't start when I went to leave. They said there's a weak cell. Went to advance auto and they said it was a rear mounted battery, which is why it cost 110 bucks.

Was like wtf!? Rear mounted? You must be confused.... Turns out I'm just an ignorant ass.

this thread is awesome, im a M-B tech and benz puts most of the batteries in the trunk of cars, well they are everywhere now. I didnt even know my battery was in the trunk on my HHR but its pretty cool that they did it.

S-class - one under the hood and one behind the rear seat
E-class in the trunk
C/GLK class under hood
GL/ML/R under the passenger seat (be happy yours isnt there!)

like someone said being inside the car is better for the battery

1970judge

That actually has nothing to do with why it costs 110$, so he wasn't in the right on that either.

M2006 2lt orignal battery but when it is time I will get an AGM Sears has one not cheep about $198.00 they dont vent, as the stock that came with the HHR has a vent, as 4% of volume of Hydr0gen you have a bomb.
