Okay. Looks like we are going to do Friday July 11th and Saturday July 12th. This is kind of open ended at the moment. Plans are to spend the entire day at Cedar Point on Friday. Those that want to spend 2 days at the Park can come Thursday and Friday. On Saturday, we can meet for lunch. How does Damon's sound. They were great last year.
Some people expressed wanting to cruise from Cedar Point to Cleveland to visit the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. If people are interested we can leave Sandusky Saturday afternoon and cruise a little over an hour to Cleveland and have an evening dinner meet and then spend Sunday visiting the RRHOF. Let the questions/comments roll ;)

Is this at the theme park or somewhere around it. Is there hotel set aside for us as far as a meeting place. This would be me and my wife's first year. We live in Columbus Ohio just trying to get all the details cause we would love to join in on the fun with other HHR owners. Thank you Greg and Teresa Smith

HillsdaleHHR
01-05-2008, 01:23 PM
We would spend the entire day Friday at the park. Depending on numbers we may have to meet in a different location than last year. There are tons of hotels in all price ranges to choose from in the area.

Last year we met at McDonald's at 9 am and then cruised into Cedar Point together at 9:30. Depending on attendance numbers we might have to meet somewhere else and cruise in as McDonalds lot is not that big :D

We would spend the entire day Friday at the park. Depending on numbers we may have to meet in a different location than last year. There are tons of hotels in all price ranges to choose from in the area but for the price I suggest Castaway Bay for the special perks. Discounted tickets, entrance to the park 1 hour early, very close to the park, indoor water park etc.

I think if we have any more attendees than last year, McDees would not be a good starting point. I would say the hotel with the most HHR's would be the best place to start. Castaway Bay sounds like a good place. Damons was a great place for our lunch and they had plenty of room for us to all sit together. Count me in for a cruise to the RRHOF, I love seeing the look on peoples faces when they see a group of HHR's traveling together!!

I'll go up as a maybe and will bring my girl with me so add two to Damons. Would need to drive back to Chicago on Sunday so would be a no for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

FWIW... the girl and I both met at Cedar Point 12 years ago when we both worked there for 3 summers.

Okay, for those that are thinking of coming I need your suggestions/feedback.

Friday is full for those wanting to attend Cedar Point. As for Saturday we are planning lunch at Damon's and probably hanging out in one of the local parks to check out our rides and award prizes. Wondering if there would be any interest in taking a mini cruise (6 miles) in the HHR's to take a tour of a winery. Cost is very minimal and includes the tour as well as tastings of 4 different wines, juices, cheese and crackers, and a souvenir glass. The winery is open 9am - 5pm so we could do it before or after lunch. Thoughts?

Hillsdale, will the initial meeting place on friday be at the park? Morning, or afternoon? Is the plan then to spend the rest of the day in the park, crash in the hotel, followed sat. morning by more park fun, then lunch @ Damons and followed by the winery tour? Cruise sat. afternoon/evening to cleveland for overnite stay, then sunday at the hall of fame? Just trying to get an idea of the planned timeline!

BTW...the winery tour sounds great! :thumb:

HillsdaleHHR
01-27-2008, 11:43 AM
Chris and I will be arriving in Sandusky around noon on Thursday. Haven't heard from Siobhan but I'm sure she will be meeting us that afternoon. Some people expressed an interest of 2 days at Cedar Point. For those people I would suggest Thursday (on your own) and then Friday will be our official day at Cedar Point together. We will meet early morning Friday somewhere to be determined and cruise in together and spend the entire day at Cedar Point. The last hour in Cedar Point they do a Laser Light Show with fireworks etc. so that would be cool. For those of us who are still in the mood we could hit TGIF's after or just go crash at our hotels.
Saturday, we will start with a tour of the winery then meet up at Damon's for lunch. Afterwards we will find a local park (I'm still working on this location) to have our Awards Ceremony and to give out door prizes. Rest of day to be determined yet.
Sunday, for those interested, we will meet for breakfast at 7:30 am. Those heading to Cleveland for The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame will head out at 8:30. The Museum Hours are 10am to 5:30pm.

Just finished talking with Marsha at the Sandusky Parks Department and reserved us the pavillion at Shoreline Park. Looks like this is going to be a great location for our Awards Ceremony and to hang out. It has views of Sandusky Bay and Cedar Point. Check it out here Shoreline Park (http://www.ci.sandusky.oh.us/recreation/documents/ShorelinePark_000.pdf). There are also 4 grills and electricity so maybe we can do a BBQ later in the day for dinner. The pavillion can seat up to 60 people so we need more attendees :D

We'll be there Thursday night, will meet you all and go to the park Friday, we'll do the winery and Damon's on Saturday and then we'll have to drive back to Chicago on Sunday instead of going to Cleveland.

We won't be able to go to Cleveland on Sunday, it would add 2 more hours to the 8 we'll already have to drive to get home Sunday. And we may not make the full day at the park on Friday. We can't take Thursday off too with the HHRitage Nationals just two weeks later.

The Cedar Point Meet is fast approaching so lets start talking tickets. It is much better if those attending have tickets prior to going to the park. It makes for a quicker entrance. For those of you attending Cedar Point on Friday here are some locations/ways to get discounted tickets:

Where can I buy discounted Cedar Point tickets?
Discount tickets are available at participating Giant Eagle, Meijer (Note that not all Meijer stores sell entertainment and water park tickets.) and Drug Mart stores ($36.25.). Discount tickets are also available at participating AAA locations for AAA members.

Who is eligible for the military discount and where can the military tickets be purchased?
The military discount is available for all active or retired Military personnel (including the National Guard, Military Reserves, Coast Guard and Canadian Military.) Immediate family members include spouse, children, parents, grandparents and grandchildren.

Military discount tickets ($32.00) must be purchased at the gate (a valid military ID must be presented to receive the discount). If the military person is currently deployed overseas, the family members are eligible for the military discount as long as they show a current military family ID when purchasing tickets.

I do believe last year Meijer offered the tickets for about $7-$8 off but I will find out for sure and whether the Meijer in Sandusky offers them.

124 E. Perkins Ave.
Sandusky, OH 44870

Jeff, here is the answer.
How old are the images in Google Earth? How often are they updated?

Google Earth acquires the best imagery available, most of which is approximately one to three years old. We add to our database on a regular basis. We’re not able to provide you with detailed information regarding when a specific area will be updated.

Cedar Point opens in 6 days and only 68 days until the 2nd Annual HHR Cedar Point Meet

Ok. For those of you that have never been to Cedar Point here are a few tips to making the most out of your trip.

1. Wear comfortable shoes. You will be walking alot.
2. Wear comfortable clothes.
3. If you plan on riding any water rides be sure to have a change of clothes handy in your car.
4. Bring a fanny pack / hip pack. You will want it to put your keys, money, glasses (yes, you don't want these flying off on a coaster), etc.
5. Bring sunglasses and sunblock.
6. If you get motion sick or queezy stomach be sure to bring Dramamine.
7. Disposable cameras are best. You don't want to lose or bang your exspensive camera on rides.
8. Have cash. While ATM's are available you will be charged a fee.
9. Be ready to have some fun!!!

Add to that:

10. Bring a lunch in a cooler in your car... food and drink in the park are expensive.
11. Hit the big rides early and late as there will be long waits mid-day.
12. Sit in the last seat of the Magnum roller coaster and look back down that first drop for THE SCARE OF YOUR LIFE. :thumb:

(Will think of more as I worked at the park for 3 years back in the mid-90's)

Was fun sunday even though it rained. The Maverick is freakin SWEET.

It went Saturday(opening day) It was the best day weather-wise sunny, not to hot or cold, and no bugs. I dont know if it was a problem on Sunday or not but seemed rides were down or being worked on alot. Demon drop was down for most of the day, Raptor down for like 2 hours, Maverick was down atleast 6 hours striaght(waited twice tests looked good but didn't pan out), skyhawk was down but was too my advantage as we waited mechanic was finishing up the maintenance and pretty much walked onto the ride:thumb: Overall it was great:cool: My favs were mean streak, millenium force, and magnum.

bumper cars, antique car track, Planet Snoopy(new this year, he might be too old not sure), train ride, sky lift(maybe), plus the usual fair games and arcade, and other stuff.

Thanks for the invite. I'm giving it some serious thought. It's about a 10 - 12 hour drive depending on how the kids are doing.

There is one somewhere on Cedar Point Pennisula but out of the actually park because you have to pay extra for it. Seen it while riding one of the rollercoasters because someone spun someone else out and they turned off all the karts:lol:

Well then we should plan on meeting up Thursday sometime, i wonder if there is a go kart track around there somewhere.

There are two go-kart tracks in Sandusky and another one at Cedar Point itself.

The best one is down Route 250 towards the south end of "the strip". Has 4 or 5 tracks including one where you used to have to show your driver's license to be able to drive.

It's been over a decade since I lived there so can't say this is all current info.
