800 miles in 2 weeks

If i would change the oil every 3,000 miles what is a good oil brand to use and would it be better for a chevy dealer to do it or any shop. Becuase i took all my old cars to Oil Can Henry's but this car is my first brand new vehicle and i dont want to mess it up.

Just curious...how are you going to determine that?

From what I understand, it is not done by miles but rather by sensing driving style (miles/speed) and the condition of the oil. Its been 4000 since my last oil change and it still saying I've got over 50% oil life left.

Not trying to hi-jack...but,

Not quite right. It measures by miles, speed and temperature....NOT condition of oil.....the General is working on that little "ditty" but it's very complicated to analyze oil "on the move".

Oh, and forgot....you really can't get a real accurate oil changing mileage from trying to compute mileage with the percentage of use. Percentage goes down more rapidly at the bottom spectrum of the scale.....kind of like cummulative depletion (at least that is what I was told by "knowledgeable) people.

a) start a debate or
b) raise the dead as CH replied to another post or
c) hijack the thread

but why in the hell would you change it so soon? What a waste and what a way to pour more $$ into the oil company pockets.

But hey, your car your choice.

What, you only drive up and down your driveway? :D

Not really...some of the time I have owned the car, I worked at the same place where I lived and the grocery store was right across the street, so the car was only used on weekends to go to my boyfriends house or to visit my kids. Since then, everywhere I need to go is relatively and usually within a 20 mile radius or so. When you live in a city the size of Denver, it is rare that you have to travel much farther than that to find what you are looking for. Even all the driving I did to take the photos at Red Rocks, Lookout Mountain and the others only put about 100 miles on the car. You would be very surprised how little you have to travel to see all the great sites of the Denver Metro area and the Rocky Mountains. Come on down one of these days and I'll be happy to show you the town.

The last 2 vehicles I owned before the HHR endured the same thing. I owned my Toyota pickup for almost 8 years and put less than 15,000 miles on it during that time. Same thing with my Honda Prelude, which I still own that only logged about 3000 miles in 2 years. So, as you can see, I am driving the HHR more than the others in the past...and loving every minute of it.

i changed mine at 1000 miles, here is why. 1000 miles is enough of a break in period for the engine. I checked the filter to see if there was any metal shavings, large amounts means that something is wrong. I changed mine to Mobil 1 full syn, and have had no problems with the engine. I have done this with all of my new cars, and have never had any engine problems. It is more of a piece of mind for me and others to get the old dyno oil out and synthetic in.

I did the same thing with mine at 1200 miles for exactly the same reasons as jaydogg. Out with the factory oil and in with Mobil 1 synthetic. :thumb:

Have over 46,000 on it. Will have over 50,000 on it when I get back from Telluride in a couple of weeks. Need to check the purchase date, but I think it was around Sept 20th last year. It's been a pretty good vehicle. I've run Mobil 1 5/30 since the 2nd oil change @ 10,000 miles. Rotate the tires every 20K. Haven't had the wheels balanced yet, doesn't need it! I stay rolling, and the brakes haven't been touched yet, probably won't need to be for another 30K miles. I don't stop that much:lol:

Many of the forum members have switched to synthetic oil. As with many other things, it's a matter of opinion.

I personally use Mobil 1 synthetic, but I have seen others use Amsoil, Royal Purple and many others. There is a great 9 page thread HERE (http://chevyhhr.net/forums/showthread.php?t=278).

Have Snoopy for 5 months, now. 3278 miles as of today. Changed the oil and filter (Mobile 1 Extended Life and OEM Filter) and rotated tires. Cleaned the inside of the rims and the wheel wells since I had the rims off. Added 8 oz. of Redline Water Wetter and topped off the tires to 37 PSI. Still running well and gas mileage is still impressive at about 24 in the city and 31 on the highway...averaging about 26 over all.:thumb: :one:
