Well its a pretty good story, but i didnt really win... My buddy has a 04 Nissan Titan with the 5.6 V8. We raced one night and had i not done a beautiful smoky burnout off the line i would have had him... However, i did give him a run for his money, we stayed neck and neck until about 80 MPH, (then i backed off, cant afford another ticket) i am sure all the other 5spd's out there will agree with me, these little wagons are quick with a stick! By the way, car is completely stock (Motor wise)

P.S. I am not afraid of any Honda Civic... LOL

But who has the 100,000 mile warranty, can carry home a chest of drawers/matresses/200 or so concrete blocks, and not get hassled by the police for exhaust & illegal modifications?

Where's the fun without a loud exhaust and illegal modifications?

Even if I had an SS, I wouldn't bite on the stoplight races. Had enough of that when I had my Vette. Seemed everyone with something that they thought was anything wanted to prove it against a vette. It got old. I'm sure it would be the same when they see the SS badge. Having said that, the most satisfying kills when I had the Vette were the posers in Porsche Boxsters. All of the latter mentioned, at a sanctioned track of course. They may handle like rails but they're slow. 911 same story. Turbo Porsche forget it, Vette was toast.

Just want to add, that don't really see them as punk kids in Hondas. If they're truly modding the engine, then they're just the new gen of hot rodders, 21st Century style. They're just doing what we used to do with the V-8 cars, Camaro, Mustang, Vette, Impala SS (ole School 90's Impala), but doing with half the cylinders because that's what they can afford.

What I guess I call a punk kid in a Honda is the ones that watched Fast and Furious then put park bench wings on the rear, stickers, and a body kit but left the engine untouched except for the hi-po muffler, then go around thinking they're fast when they're really just another poser.

But I respect anyone who puts the work into the engine to backup the looks, be it 4 cyl, 6, or 8.

I agree 100%. People like to down others that use 4 cylinders instead of 8 for their motivation. I say if they can get that much power out of one of those motors heck yeah.

I also agree. A tastefully done Honda, Acura, etc is a plus in my book. Nowadays, you can get a lot of hp out of a 4 cyl. I drive what most people see as a white Neon, but it is of the SRT-4 variety and it's not stock. I've removed the big spoiler and installed the smaller SXT spoiler so it looks like a regular, slow Neon. I like stealthy.

If they're truly modding the engine is the key phrase here. Problem is most kids think that by adding a poorly installed Fart Cannon, a set of colorful spark plug wires and a bottle of Nitrous that they have actually "tuned" their engine. Those too are merely posers. Thankfully though they are easy to spot since they tend to like the park bench spoilers and stickers as well. The true tuners are the ones you would never suspect until they whoop your ass. That I can respect

Sleeper is the way to go. Maybe someday I'll run accross an HHR SS that's been totalled from a rear end collision, and take the engine plus other necessary under-hood items and put them into my 1LT, then touch up my suspension and brakes. That would make a cool HHR stealthy sleeper. Oh yeah, I'd have to have the SS's manual trans, too.

I always thought that would be cool. Take all the SS good stuff and put it in a bone stock LS body. Talk about a sleeper!

Im not trying to put anyone down with this thread...I Just think some of those kids who put all the body work on their car and nothing on the motor except chrome parts and colored fuel line and you can forget the can hanging off the back, but they think their car is fast when in fact it just makes a ton of noise and looks like s***!!!! I just wanted to know if anyone has surprised the heck out of them or not with their souped up grocery getter....(:thumb: I own an HHR SS so that last part wasnt supposed to be a put down)

I did however school a ricer in my old bone stock Chrysler Town & Country mini van! That 3.8 liter could really move. I thought it was funny, my wife however gave me this  reaction

Well you could always buy a used one for around 10k less, buy the Stage 3 SC and have 450hp/370tq.

No it's not the fastest car for the money, and frankly I don't really like the new ones, but the older style is pretty sweet.

BMW Z3 beat by SS!

Now I didn't pick this fight. I pulled up behind a Z3 at a red light. The guy nailed it when the light went green so I stayed with him. At the next light he jumped into the right lane and started revving the motor so I patiently waited until the light went green again. I pulled him by a car link in first, he started gaining a little in second but when mine changed into third I started steadily pulling away. When I came out of third I was several car links ahead (maybe 3) and he gave up. The next light was a ways down the road on a big 4 lane highway and I was turning so he tooted the horn a few times and waved as he passed.

I don't think he knew what he had gotten hold of! I'm not sure what engine it had but it looked pretty new. The part I like is I know he spent alot more money!

So whens that programmer for the SS coming out? 320HP:D I'm just prepping for that run in with the true tuner!

On a local two lane, sweeping right hand on-ramp to the 23 freeway I had a Honda S-2000 roadster dive under me just as we were accelerating up the ramp, that guy looked SOOOOO surprised as he slammed that hi-revving Honda through the gears and I was just slowly pulling away from him. I guess he expected to blow me away easily. I was surprised those S-2000 roadsters were that fast as well.

The SS actually has more hp than the Z3. The Z3 is somewhere between 170-190 hp but weighs less than the SS so it might be a driver's if you both were to get serious. The Z4 might give you more for the money as they are 255 hp. Forget the M Roadster as they, like the M3 are 333 hp and would blow your doors off.

I felt bad for this civic/crx or whatever the super short and small honda is called. It had a nice size wing (read 747) and a couple of stickers (i lost count at 35) a body kit (flapping as if caulk was holding it on) a black hood (poor mans carbonfiber) and to top it all of a space saver spare on the front passenger side. I had a difficult time seeing him in my driverside blind spot. That's when I realized he was racing me. So he cut me off and drove 100ft ahead. I just slowly creeped up on him in 5th, and then left it there. then i put it in neutral and gild to keep up my mpg. Then he floored it..... i think? Couldn't tell, stayed in fifth, and watched him shrink in the mirror.
I should have let him leave me in the dust, you know...pay it forward.

I went down to Englishtown raceway years back for amateur day. I saw a nice 90's mustang pull up and here comes a red honda civic hatchback. I looked a little closer and this hatchback had a full 8 point roll cage, 5 point harness and guages all over the place. They were both warming up their tires, pulled up to the line. 3, 2, 1......Civic was 1/4 way down the track while the mustang was about 10 feet off the starting line. That little civic ran a 10 flat. While the mustang ran a 12.??. That civic gave me a whole different respect for ricers. 1/2 the cylinders and faster?!?!?

I would be impressed if this was a naturally aspirated or even turbo motor, But I bet he had a bottle. Nitrous is Cheating, it's what you use when you don't know how to build up a motor the right way.

Bottle or turboc or superc or nitroM, if you don't build it up right, it won't last long. There is no cheating, only luck.....until BOOM. Don't hate the fuel, hate the game.

Don't kid yourself. I've seen plenty of 10 sec Honda's at the track that were all motor. No way is a 10 sec Honda a ricer, either. A ricer is ugly show and no go.

Man, you guys are brutal... Not everyone can do all the work, nor do they want to. Thoughout the history of the car scene there have been different stages of modding cars. You B*tch about ricers and in the 50's the self proclaimed hotrodders with Ford Flathead motors did the same thing about the Chevy small block.:p: Then in the 60's it was the guys complaining about the factory muscle cars and the kids that could buy or daddy bought it. Then the sports cars and Pony cars... I've been hearing the same BS about different style cars since I started cruising, rodding and racing in the '60s.

I'm an old phart and have been part of and seen it happen... Hotrodding is hotrodding and times change....Since the SAAB uses the same Turbo motor as the SS does that make an SS Euro crap?

If it wasn't for the Asian cars, Detroit will still be building Luxo barges that wouldn't stop or turn at 10 MPG.

Oh, and don't forget the old VW Beetles... Mine ran low 14's and blew off many a V8 in the day and a few Vettes on the road courses too.

Sometimes stop light to stop light has left and right turns too! Such as Mulhulland drive and the Saturday night street races. Fast and Furious was nothin compaired to reality. And then there is NOS... That is old school boys and girls... It started during WWII.;) .. It took hotrodders/tuners a long time to catch on.

And there is this long sweeper turn on my way to work... Damn it's fun drivin around those sport sedan guys..He, he, he:nuts: :thumb:

No, a full tube frame with a 355 SB connected to a powerglide, then to a 9" Ford cut to fit with some 18s all the way around, would make a nice sleeper! It could still look totally stock from the outside............hhmmm!
