Does the stubby antenna get as good of reception as the stock one? I know it sure looks better

IMO the stock one gets a little better reception but it's not worth it to keep it. ;) Get a stubby and get rid of the RC car antenna.

I have mine for about 3 days now. The only place I notice any thing is going thru a small tunnel. Other than that the stubby works just as good, and looks 100% better.

Everyone that has seen mine wants to get one for thier car.

The only thing I noticed is one of my stations that barely came in (real staticy) doesnt come in anymore. It was a spanish country station. :). So I just downloaded 1gb worth of spanish country and fixed that problem. But any station that didnt have any static before wont have any static afterwards. Atleast thats my experience

:p: I installed one and found that my wife's favorite talk show station in Akron could hardly come in clearly, so we went back to the original antenna. I really liked the look of the stubby antenna and there is no noticeable difference on strong stations. In fringe areas, the stubby antenna doesn't bring in the reception as well as the original. I guess the Chevy engineers know best!

where is a good place to order one of these and do they just screw on or is there more assembly required?

Of course it won't get as good of reception. That stubby thing is too short to absorb the radiation.

However, as others have pointed out, it may not matter if you live and travel in a large metropolitan area. If you live in an area of Washington State that is rural or mountainous or travel between areas of good reception to bad, the bad reception will occur sooner in your trip. It just depends upon how strong the signal from the radio station is in the location you may be currently at.

By the way the AM/FM HHR antenna is amplified.

it just screws on. I got mine from a vendor on here. The powder coating on mine actually flaked off surprisingly quick even though i have though PC to be super strong. I sanded it down, primed, painted and put a satin clear on it, and it's held up better then ever.

Ditto. Great selection and they have a "reception rating" to give you an idea how well they work. I live in an area that has strong FM & AM signals so the stubby is no problem and it looks great.

Reception sux on a stubby. But I listen to my iPod and Sirius satellite radio, so don't listen to terrestrial radio at all. Off with the stock and on with the shortest, most slim stubby I could find. 4 tapered inches of stubbiness.

I broke my stubby antennae... So mine's only about 3/4" now. I spent over $200 on my iPod touch so I'm gonna get my money's worth

I got mine from Ebay... it's a stubby that's extendable so when/if reception craps out some, I just open the sunroof, extend my stubby (lmao) and reception returns.

Dremeled my stock one into a stuby. Still about 90% as effective. But i listen to XM radio 99.5 % of the time.

i just ordered mine from stubbyantenna.com as well. And also did the extendable version for just this reason. Can't wait to dump the 16" whip

I was going to buy a stubby, but went with an off-brand from eBay, which doesn't fit (the bottom end is flat and doesn't fit up against the rounded base).

So I also dremeled the stock antenna, which looks the same as the photo above. Before I did this, I tested reception without an antenna, and it was fine, so I knew I'd have no problems with the stubbed version.

Anyway, the level of sound clarity on my stereo, from best to worst, goes CD, iPod, XM, FM, AM, so I'm not overly worried about radio reception, especially since I also hate listening to commercials.

Put a stubby antenna on almost 5 Years ago and have no problem with reception. Bought it from "So-Cal HHRs", (Remember him??)
