SoCalHHR 10-25-2005, 02:00 PM Not to promote anything illegal...but I made a short trip up to Lake Arrowhead the other day and on the way home hit 110 on the open road. Seemed like the HHR (stock 2.4L), had plenty left at that point. Has anyone gone faster?
SIHHR 10-26-2005, 11:32 AM Over a month ago I was in Florda and we wound up renting an LS HHR. It was a different experienced comprared to my LT2. I wound up driving over 100 MPH on I-95 going from Fort Lauderdale towards Boca. It was smooth. I have not had the chance or open road around me in New York to Open my bad boy HHR up. Plenty of Traffic if you know what I mean
wheelsee 10-26-2005, 12:11 PM I drove to Syracuse and back over the weekend and had the opportunity to take up to 100 on the way back on 81 in PA several times(averaged over 31MPG too) had no problems and definately felt like I could take it higher...

SoCalHHR 10-26-2005, 12:52 PM See...I'm not the only one! :thumb:
adamlowery 10-26-2005, 02:07 PM I hit 90 thats it. Id like to take it to a track and really top it out.
captain howdy 10-29-2005, 11:28 PM I'm always driving 80 or 90 to and from work. I have went into the mid 100s but haven't got a chance to bury the needle yet. Its coming soon. :D I at least want to wait untill after my first oil change.
SoCalHHR 10-30-2005, 01:35 AM Well, I walked away from a PT Crooner today...just left him in the dust basically. I was waiting to empty this tank and throw some octane booster in to see how she responds. After the Crooner episode, I decided to skip the booster...not needed!
I'm guessing with the K&N intake and Borla exhaust - she'll be all I'll need!
adamlowery 10-31-2005, 12:49 PM What a great story. lol. I really wish K&N would release something.
Long_Tall_Texan 10-31-2005, 01:51 PM Anybody have a SWAG of when K&N is going to relaease one?

The HHR does have more horse power then the PT. So we are always going to beat them in a race. A couple of mod's with Extra HP could play a difference. Now if you lost the PT, I doubt you would ever post "Hey Guess what a PT Cruiser beat me". :blah:
SoCalHHR 10-31-2005, 03:56 PM Anybody have a SWAG of when K&N is going to relaease one?
I'm working with K&N right now. Not sure of the timeframe yet because SEMA is this week. Once all the measurements are done, it will still take a while before it hits actual production. As soon as something is locked down, I'll post details.

SIHHR 10-31-2005, 04:31 PM I just broke 3001 miles today. I guess I should get an oil change
SoCalHHR 10-31-2005, 04:41 PM Actually, the HHR is designed for 5000mi oil change intervals.
But it's your call. :thumb:
captain howdy 10-31-2005, 05:22 PM I religiously change the oil at 3000.
SoCalHHR 11-01-2005, 12:19 AM I always have too. In fact, I had a 1985 Jeep CJ-7 that I changed the oil in every month! (It was actually coming out "clean" !!!) :D I did check into the HHR reccomendations though, and feel they are valid. I'm going to wait the full 5K between changes - monitoring the oil visually.
Remember - the transmission is actually sealed! You can't change the fluid in there if you tried. Much research has been done regarding this, and I don't believe Chevy would have set them up this way unless they trusted the results.
Still...let your conscience be your guide! :thumb:

adamlowery 11-01-2005, 09:19 AM Wow. Didn't know that.
SIHHR 11-01-2005, 11:44 AM Majority of new cars are sealing the Automatic transmission Fluids area. Just think the more reasons to bring your car in, the more money they can make.
CanadianHHR 11-03-2005, 04:52 PM First time i drove this thing on the road was sorta dispointed, Until today.
Man I pushed her to 160km/h and it was so smooth. oh yeah this car is slowe at the start, but it keeps going and then it FLYS,, haha i love it, . Smoked a honda today also.
SoCalHHR 11-03-2005, 06:02 PM I agree - the HHR stays smooth all the way up. Great Ride! :thumb:
Be sure to keep the shiny side up!

flyhhr 02-15-2006, 05:25 PM my 2.4 manual 5 speed the gov kicks in at 118 or 119 that's on 95 in VA
en0oNmAI 02-15-2006, 08:15 PM I just hit 105 the other day in mine. Even the 2.2L with a 5 spd moves. Exhaust and cold air intke do help a bit with making the audible part of the journey worth while! ;)

captain howdy 02-17-2006, 01:16 PM What brand exhaust and cold air intake?
I kind of wondered that myself?
After sorting through all the expert / amateur opinions in this thread, I've scientifically concluded why SoCal's HHR is soooo fast.... :thumb:
It's the stubby antenna, folks!! Gotta be worth at least 20 MPH on the top end!! :)
So... I ordered one of the previously guarded speed-secret antennas!! :D
Look out world!!! :p: :one:
SoCalHHR 02-17-2006, 06:58 PM Oh, man - watch out! Joe's putting the "Stubby" on!

Thats what worked for me.
en0oNmAI 02-24-2006, 11:06 PM What brand exhaust and cold air intake?
Its a home made setup that I got help from our local *cough cough IMPORT cough* shop. Using various mandrel bends and an off the shelf "fart can" style muffler for exhaust and various mandrel bends for intake. I can get pics soon. Keeping 2 1/4 for exhaust and intake starts at 4" on the filter and down to TB size right at the MAF. Helps create a velocity stack effect! :thumb:

HELLO. DOES THE HHR HAVE A MPH LIMIT CALEBRATION IN THE PCM LIKE OTHER GM'S MY 2003 SILVERADO STOP AT 99 MPH AND MY 1999 ZR2 STOP AT 98. MY HHR HAS ONLY 2500 MILES ON IT AND HAVEN'T HAD OPPRUTUNITY TO SEE... LATER DEEREBILT. 06 BLUE 1LT AUTO.
dbarberaz 03-23-2006, 09:25 PM On my road trip up to Laughlin over the weekend I did get between 100-110.
I ws behind a a SUV passing some other cars. I backed off after that but think it would have got pass 110

The GM set limit is 108. I'v ehad mine at 110 several times - just lucky I guess! It shuts right down after that.
I will be getting into the computer soon (hopefully), and will see if that can be removed, and some changes made to the mixture ratio, neutral rev limiter, shift points, and firmness.
Let's see if we can't come up with a "tune" for the HHR!! :thumb:
booksmitty 03-23-2006, 09:50 PM Just left a post on Gas Peddle Issue...
On I-5 several weeks ago, had a clear freeway for a little bit. Punched it, baby!
Hit 105mph, before I had caught up to others. Wished for 110. It was there but I had to slow down for the others...... :(
Love it.
erf2u 03-24-2006, 03:35 PM I was recently clocked going down the local freeway
Don't I wish.....
Airborne_Beachbum 03-27-2006, 02:26 AM Twice I've had it up to 115 until I realized the clicking was the antenna bouncing off the sun-roof. Will have to try again as soon as the new "shorty" gets here. Plus, after reading posts about having a gov, I'm not sure if I actually hit 115.
cowboybornlate 03-27-2006, 07:12 PM I left the house early this morning (4:30am) so in a lil bit of a stretch, i put the pedal on the floor up until the dang speed limiter kicked in at 108 on the nose... dang conspiracy to control us... I'm waiting for HyperTech to come out with a chip modulator... I have one on my 04 Silverado and I love it... speed now at 128, changed the gear shift speeds, firmness and a couple other things...

I also thought my speedo was at 115. Hard to be sure while trying not to run over anybody. :p:
Firewatcher 03-27-2006, 08:56 PM Gee.....I've never worn a Speedo.............even at 115! :D
captain howdy 03-28-2006, 12:01 AM Being Italian my people are very in to Speedos. :red: I wish that stereotype wasn't true. :(
cj krause 03-28-2006, 12:28 AM there should be a public test and poll first before you are allowed to wear a speedo or a thong!!!!
can i Hear an AMEN
dbarberaz 03-28-2006, 09:29 AM Amen !!!!!!!!!!! :d

Now thats a good reason for me to drive out to socal.
Firewatcher 03-28-2006, 04:30 PM Mike doesn't look to be the type to wear a Speedo......but then again, it all starts in SoCal
cjnappo 03-31-2006, 12:39 AM i put the car in I and took off i was on i380 in pa between the mt pocono exit and the tobyhanna exit about 4 m,iles well half way 2 miles i hit the rev limiter and was pissed at 108 so i changed the gear and went to I and i hit 118 before i had to stop and get off my exit i was totally suprised and it wanted to keep going ....
SoCalHHR 03-31-2006, 12:55 AM That's true! I forgot about this; the top speed limiter only works in high gear. I had a ford ranger that cutout at 100mph, but downshifting it (out of OD), it would still keep accellerating!
Thanks CJ for the reminder! :thumb:
Now the race is back ON again for a new top speed! :one:
(CJ's in the lead with 118!)
adamlowery 03-31-2006, 11:45 AM I hit 100 again last night racing my brother's gmc siera v8. Soooo much adrenaline.
SoCalHHR 03-31-2006, 01:39 PM It's funny - like many others here I bought the HHR primarily to get better mileage. Even during the test drive I was thinking ]"Hmmm...No power, - but at least it'll get good mileage."[/I] But after you get a few miles on her and get that ecotec broken in - MAN, what a rush!
I love this car... :thumb:
BlackHHR 04-02-2006, 03:06 AM Hey! i just joined. I raced a GTP and a f.f. SVT and beat both of them. I had her up to about 110 and it still wants to go.
cj krause 04-02-2006, 03:24 AM I have fun all the time in I gear. it is amazing what you can do with it. there really isnt a road in the DFW area w/o cops that i would try over 100 with it... but next road trip in the boonies in Okrahoma and i am there.
try it in a big parking lot in the rain. go to 1st and the TC is gone and still more fun
anyone try 0to 60 and 1/4 miles in I gear and in D?
people are shocked how this lil HHR hauls in it with me.
cowboybornlate 04-02-2006, 03:29 PM I'm on Hwy 75 between Dallas and Oklahoma on a daily basis. I stretched it out and I only get to 108 before the speed limiter kicks in darnit. Waiting for Hyper-Tech to come out with something to releive that issue. I have one on my Silverado and at least it peaks at 128. I don't really have a need to go much faster than that! ha
CBL
flyhhr 04-03-2006, 10:12 AM all the people that are doing 108 do you have automatics because in my manual I can do 118 just wondering
erf2u 04-11-2006, 04:57 PM I tried to hit this 118mph the other day, like most of you. I also have the manual trans. I was travelling on a fairly flat road, on the San Mateo Bridge, which spans about 9 miles, where about 7 miles is really flat. I opened it up on the flat section of the bridge.
Well, I could only reach 104ish mph. :frown: Perhaps it was the wind factor, as it was really blowing hard that evening. I was alone, so it is not a weight factor. I think I am gonna have to try it again soon.
cvrogershhr 04-11-2006, 06:01 PM Yea, 100mph, plenty fast, and was surprised at how fast it gets there. But did feel sorta squirrly at that speed to me, and it is the 2LT auto. I stopped at 100...... bought this for the gas mileage soo 75 mph is about 1 mpg less than 65, :thumb:

Krejaton 04-11-2006, 07:42 PM I hit the limiter last weekend..surprised me how fast it got there and that I couldn't push it more
SoCalHHR 04-11-2006, 07:43 PM Downshift - it'll go more!
KY Dave 04-11-2006, 08:53 PM I just made my first 400 mile trip last weekend. Got in a line of traffic going 80 mph. We stayed that way for about 2 hours. A couple of times I saw 100 on the speedo. She really was smooth. I love this car.
txsman2930 04-11-2006, 09:06 PM As long as I can go faster than a PT Loser, that's all that matters to me. lol
cowboybornlate 04-11-2006, 11:15 PM Well, I've now tried my 2.2, 1LT, Auto in both D and I and it still peaked at 107ish in both gears. I did not notice a difference.
Highjack alert:
Someone mentioned 1mpg difference between driving 65 and 75. For the last few days, i've been keeping mine at 65 with the cruise set, approximately 90 miles one way to work and my NIC just couldn't seem to climb over 30.5. Today I drove approximately 350 miles, mostly highway with the cruise set on 75. When I parked it in the driveway this evening I thought I'd check to see how much worse it was and to my surprise the NIC registered 31 even. It actually went up. Now keep in mind, there are quite a few hills on my route. I'm wondering if it's the fact that the engine didn't labor as hard getting up the hills with the added speed. It doesn't make sense to me, but I thought I'd post it anyway.

laylowcustoms 04-16-2006, 10:04 PM Reguarding the speed limmiter............... IS the limmiter on all cars or just automatics? I have the 5 speed but havent rapted her out yet.
erf2u 04-23-2006, 01:34 AM I think I am gonna have to try it again soon.
Tried it again, same place, same time, same bat channel...and with a very calm evening, she flew like a bird. Hit 110mph and had room to go. Had to slow down for the cars ahead of me though......was really smooth.
cvrogershhr 04-24-2006, 05:32 PM Hi:
OK. I had to try it again....my gas mileage after a fill up. I drove 45 miles to work at 60 mph, cruise set on a 2 lane highway. with hills and even passed a car and had to accelerate to get around. when I got to work, DIC said 31.5 mpg. When I left work and drove home that evening, upon arriving home the DIC said 28.5 mpg... now this averaged all the miles driven since fill up. This part of the trip was on the Interstate at about 72mph with hills here too involving downshifting also and cruise set for a total of about 90 miles. I drive this route all the time. just noticed it seems to get better mileage at lower speeds, i have the 2LT with the 2.4 auto, but, I use regular gas, which is $2.99 a gallon now with premium at $3.19 a gallon. I have 4900 miles on my HHR since I purchased new on the 20th of February. :red: I'm not complaining, because the Astro got at best of 19 mpg on a trip, so I have really saved by buying the HHR, it is a blast to drive, and I guess it is really a neat thing to enjoy and need at the same time. I'll be posting pic's soon, you guys have given me a few neat idea's to do to mine and although subtitle they have really made my ride personnel and an attention getter....The biggest thing I really get mad about though, "OH, Is that a new PT Cruiser?" I've always owned Chevrolet's..... :one: Is a bit frustrating. But when I tell them the setup of the HHR, it's a different story..It does offer more than the PT....I finally drove one the other day(PT), not too impressed..but the salesman was in the car too. :steering: Oh one more thing, the DIC stays around 27.5 mpg if left alone for all driving conditions, both Interstate and city driving, with the most being Interstate. :blah:
http://www.chevyhhr.net/images/sigs/silver.jpg (http://chevyhhr.net)
cvrogershhr 04-28-2006, 11:51 PM BTW:
I ran into an interesting situation when I tried the speed test again, same place, I hit 110 mph, easing up to it, then it did it, hit 110 and stopped, like it shifted. well I slowed back to speed limit, and tried to set the cruise control.....no cruise... I got off the Interstate, stopped, then drove on the expressway toward home, the cruise has worked fine since........wonder if the computer noted the shutdown and have to go back to 1st gear or a complete stop before the cruise reset. The car felt good at 110 mph too, but alas, I bought this for the gas mileage.... time to be a responsible adult and SLOW DOWN......

Visitors, please join ChevyHHR.net. It only takes 20 seconds
Keep in mind that in today's gov't and legal climate, no car will roll off the assembly line where the top speed capability (governed) will exceed the speed rating of the OEM tires. On the HHR, they are "S" (112 mph) for the 16" and "T" (118 mph) for the 17". Not really sure if Chevy has different settings for the different tires.
That said, last week I was travelling on business, mostly I-64 and some I-81. I was looking for an opportunity to let 'er out, but the heavy traffic volume never gave me an open stretch to do it. Also, the VA SP (speed gestapo) were out in force last week.
ludicristSS 05-03-2006, 03:47 PM We can up the speed limiter or remove it if you'd like .

While making a run to Disney on the Turnpike, Dory topped out at 110 in "D". Dropped her in to "I" and made it to 118 before having to slow for traffic. Managed to get a cheap pic w/ cell phone while backing down. Held down the average speed reset button to get more exact reading than speedometer. The pic shows 112!

GDZHHR 05-21-2006, 02:59 PM Took mine out yesterday for its first road trip, St. Louis to Springfield MO, 220+ miles each way on HWY 44.
On the way down I averaged 85-95 mph, got about 23mpg, hit the 110 limit a couple times. didn't want to risk any faster with the wife and child....there will be other chances though!
On the way back had the cruise on 70 and got 29.9mpg.
Mind you this was on a highway that is mostly hills on a windy day. Very impressed by the speed and mileage!:D
Bought it for gas mileage without considering performane, what an awesome bonus!:thumb:

That was Friday night somewhere in Illinois on I-64 carrying 4 people and all of our gear!

I will say though, I don't have any performance mods except the IMCO, had a couple of F-A-T people, 2 kids and a full cargo area.
I just love this economy car. When I hit 119, it would have gone faster but with the precious cargo I had on board, that was fast enough for me!
The 78 I got up to on the track at Bristol felt a lot faster than the 119 on the hwy. Those banks are a b!tch!! I'd punch it coming out of the turn to get some more speed on the straight and it seemed like just one second later another big a$$ bank was flying at me.......braking time!
Can't wait to try it again though....the track, I think for now 119 is fast enough for me.

Did you happen to check out the mpg you were getting while doing 119?
When I checked mine at 118, it was reading only 14 mpg.

I don't think I'm going to try again anytime soon either, going to keep it to under 100, just not worth the risk/lousy mpg.

Notice the fuel gauge is on going EMPTY!
At that speed, I wonder how far the HHR can coast.:D

ToddH 06-12-2006, 01:35 PM I hit 105 mph on my trip to Eastern Oregon. Before I put my intake on. Can't wait to see what it's going to do when I got out next month. Honestly, as soon as I got the pic, we did coast for a looong time before we got back down to 85, which is what we were doing to make good time. I didn't even think to look at the mpg. I do know that when we did fill up we had gotten over 25 mpg overall. This was driving 80-85 mostly through very hilly conditions carrying a lot of weight.
And no I won't be trying this again anytime soon. If I do it'll be after my cars out of warranty and I start doing some real performance mods; cat back, supercharger, etc....hey a guy can dream can't he!:D
It was a real rush though.
I could just add a few SoCal HHR decals, thats always good for another 15-25 hp.

I know what you mean about the ride.
There was no floating feeling or unsteadiness of any kind.
My wife had no idea that we were going that fast until I told her to get the camera ready.
And my wife's a new convert too. As soon as she was done with her turn doing laps at Bristol she said she had to have one too. She already has picked out her color!
SoCalHHR 06-12-2006, 01:54 PM I'm sure the mpg wasn't that bad. :D After 9 dyno runs at wide open throttle from 30-110mph here's what we ended up with:

SindyDix 06-12-2006, 03:13 PM 16 MPG... 30-110MPH, not a typical day in So Cal off the 91 freeway! Glad that was during testing only!

yorkieK9trainer 12-26-2006, 03:20 AM The HHR does have more horse power then the PT. So we are always going to beat them in a race. A couple of mod's with Extra HP could play a difference. Now if you lost the PT, I doubt you would ever post "Hey Guess what a PT Cruiser beat me". :blah:
"Pick up the pace with PT Cruiser's high-output 2.4-liter turbocharged engine. Standard on PT Cruiser GT, it creates 230 horsepower at 5,100 rpm and 245 lb-ft of available peak torque from 2,800 to 4,500 rpm.
A turbocharged 2.4-liter 16-valve 4-cylinder DOHC engine producing 180 horsepower and 210 lb-ft of torque is available on PT Cruiser Limited.
PT Cruiser's standard 2.4-liter 16-valve 4-cylinder DOHC power plant offers a formidable150 horsepower at 5,100 rpm and 165 lb-ft of torque at 4,000 rpm."
HOW DO YOU FIGURE? I personally don't care for the PT myself and am in love w/ my HHR's, but I just wanted to see how you figure the PT has less hp than the HHR. Especially since they have a turbo kit available and we don't yet.
en0oNmAI 12-26-2006, 11:29 AM a friend of mine just rented a PT with the N/A motor and an auto tranny. We raced from a stand still and a roll. The 2.2 HHR whooped on him EVERY time. NO question the HHR is faster than the N/A version. Now we're trying to get his dad to let him borrow his PT GT Turbo with a 5spd to see what my modded 2.2 does...

JimZ_HHR 04-06-2007, 06:07 PM While on my vacation and on a nice desolate country highway, I reached a top speed of 108 MPH, the accelerator had more to give, gues that is the speed it was governed out at.
VincentStimpanzee 08-09-2007, 11:53 PM I've gotten up to 117mph. Thought i might go faster but there was others in the car.
HHR Man 08-12-2007, 01:29 PM I don't expect too much speed from my HHR. I wind it out and see how fast it goes. When I want to go fast ,I'll just hop in my Dakota R/T. That will do 140mph. I usually cruise the breezeways in Chicago about 80 so I imagine once I get my new HHR it will go about the same.
Frozenspokes 08-24-2007, 01:14 AM I took mine out the other day and got up to 110 and then it felt like I lifted the throttle. I thought maybe I had just run out of power, but from this thread it seems that there is a limiter installed. I have the 2.4L engine and auto. Has anyone bypassed the limiter? I could get over 120 MPH in the old car, but nowhere near the mileage that I am getting from the HHR. I just figured that the lower top speed came with the package.
isomswim 08-24-2007, 08:34 AM HPTuners software will allow you to change the top speed of your car. not that it will do that speed but takes the limiter off.
Has anyone bypassed the limiter?
Drop it into "I" gear. You'll take a really big hit on economy but if you're trying to max out the HHR, I doubt you'll be worrying about that.
Applenut 08-24-2007, 07:10 PM It does over 120 with a proper tune.
JESSE 08-24-2007, 07:52 PM It does over 120 with a proper tune.
Havent really had a safe place to try it, but since mine was Hptuned it does run very strong. Im sure 120 easily.
Applenut 08-24-2007, 10:28 PM I never said it was safe:lol:
Jesse, with your tune, elevated red-line, high-flow muffler, and cold air intake, my Excel calculations have you hitting 132 in 3rd (aka "I" gear). :one: :thumb:
With the speedometer only going to 120 (and it DOES stop there!), now we need some documentation of higher speeds.
Otherwise, talk is cheap.

Will the DIC read higher than 120 if you reset the average while doing so?
Good question! But don't know the answer. Maybe someone can try it? I wouldn't want to try to take a pic at those speeds, though!
The problem around here in SE VA (Jesse can attest to this!) is that congestion is so bad that the opportunity to stretch it out safely (emphasis on doing it safely, since we don't want anyone getting hurt!) is an extremely rare opportunity. I've done thousands of miles of travel on VA and NC interstates and finding that "gap" to safely try for top end is close to impossible.
A few weeks ago I suddenly saw that gap in NC, on I-85 just south of Greensboro. I had HP Tuners ready to log since I had been logging other data on the trip. About the time I was contemplating shifting to 5th, a truck came down an on-ramp ahead with a car following. I backed off because the car pulled into the left lane to pass as soon as they were on the main road.
The HP Tuners log showed 125 at just over 7,000 in 4th. (5-speed here)
GDZHHR 08-25-2007, 12:21 PM It does over 120 with a proper tune.
It will do 120+ without the tune. At least mine did!

But, Mike, how do you know that?
Not trying to give you a hard time, but just asking...
Some computations with my Excel sheet have both the auto and 5-speed hitting RPM cutoff point at about 120 (auto in 3rd, 5-sp in 4th) and that's without the factory 108 MPH speed limiter. Upshifting with either will drop the RPMs well down the power band.
The HHR is a "brick" aerodynamically and not a high power car. The top speed will be aero-limited by the HP available.
So..... to back up my previous claim:

Sometime's your as bad as you acuse SoCal Mike as always being.
This pic was taken with two adults, 2 kids and a PACKED car, please spare me safety comments, on my way to Bristol Speedway last summer. I had not had the tune done yet.
As you can see, 120mph @ 6500rpms. So yeah, with out a tune, the HHR CAN do 120+.
And just like you used to always throw at Mike, your nice litle computer generated graphic doesn't PROVE anything. I'm not saying it may not be genuine, but if you are going to always raise these BS issues with anything others say, then you should be held to the same standard. Let's see a pic of your gauges showing the same info, that would be proof.
BTW, I'm not siding with or against Mike, just giving examples of how you make a habit of calling people out.

Hey, Mike... calm down now! I simply asked "Not trying to give you a hard time, but just asking..."!
I never made a comment on the safety issue. That's your or anyone else's judgement call.
Yes, 120 @ 6500 with an auto is right on.
My "nice little computer generated graphic" is a screenshot from a HP Tuners data log. How else can anyone document this? The factory speedometer will NOT pass 120, nor will the tach pass 7000. Hey, I'm not trying to sell Dyno Tabs here! Someone asked if resetting the DIC speed would show over 120 and I said I don't know. That may be interesting for anyone without the capability to log data otherwise. Who knows?
As far as "BS issues".... never said that or accused you of that! But I will say that anyone who earlier in this thread claimed over 108 with the 5-speed and no tune is BS'n!
As far as SoCal Mike and the myth and lore he put out, yes, when I know otherwise I will "call out" any statements that are doubious or contrary to known fact. Somebody needs to sometime.
And, finally, I've never called you on anything. I can never recall you making any statement that would raise my BS flag. I hope your business does well! :thumb:
marklo 03-17-2008, 10:05 PM the 2.2 autos are governed to 106- 108 . try putting trans in I mode and walla gov is gone, after 112 they pull slow, at 115 watch out they feel weak kneed on bumps and bends and bouncy, i always put 45 psi in my continental vr tires
If you switch the canadian model into mph, will the speedo go up to 200? Hmm, maybe I should try it. Gotta find a big arse hill though :D

white heat 06-06-2008, 01:51 AM How the hell do you justify going that fast on a public road?
nijntje 06-11-2008, 07:26 AM Just my 2 cents:
European model = same as US = limited speed
Has to do with the speed the tires have been tested on
Mine stopped at exactly 180km/h which would make 111.85 Mph
There was room for more but it just stopped so there is a showstopper of a speedlimiter installed. I'm hoping to get a update somehow somewhere to get that limiter to stop bothering me.
(I'm on a Automatic Transmission.)

nijntje 06-12-2008, 07:16 AM Hey Thanks GDZHHR I'll try that :D
marklo 06-16-2008, 03:04 PM shifting in I mode removes the speed limiter in some 2.2 06-08 automatics, mine went 116 and didnt have much left the 2.2s lack torque, with air raid and modded exhaust, light weight wheels, and braille 11 lb battery,, without any mods mine use to struggle to get to 112,some people say later 08s GM has changed that little trick, now they go only to 112, i dont know about the 2.4s ? BUT, the SS models will do 140+ un governed ,but wall of wind resistance, makes you run out of road
nijntje 07-08-2008, 09:42 AM I got some bad news 'bout turning off the limiter by switching to 'I'.
It doesn't work on the 2.4 '08 model I got. Still stuck on 180km/h = 111.85 Mph
TheBug 07-08-2008, 10:09 AM Got mine up to 110 with PLENTY left. I backed off 'cause that was the fastest I've gone (so far;) ). Big difference from my 4x4 rolling brick:lol: .

Doesn't the limiter depend on the tires that came with the car? My SS came with W-Rated tires from the factory, which I think are rated to 168 mph (270 km/h)
AaronSS 09-08-2008, 10:17 PM Old thread, but I hit 140 last night. There wasn't much left. Aerodynamic drag makes a speed limiter much over that unnecessary, stock. I won't be stock for long. :D

I had the opportunity to run mine up on a private road to about 135 then "ran out of road" (125 came up very quick but 135 took a while). At about 120 the drivers side glass pulled away from the weatherstripping and wind noise was pretty loud (did anyone else notice something similar?)

my driver door does this i think its caused by too much cabin pressure try cracking open a rear window or put your air on recirculate. urbexHHR 05-08-2009, 11:15 AM I thought new cars have a limiter on them so they can't go over a certain speed? I know my mom's 2006 Impala would chime at 107 and say "Speed Limit" on the speedometer. txbass06 05-18-2009, 09:35 PM I had the needle buried on my stock LS earlier today. A buddy of mine in a 350z said we were cruising at 130 but my Gtech pro only said 125. Regardless, thats not too bad for a bone stock 2.2L
TomsHHR 05-18-2009, 10:02 PM What was the RPM at 125? in your 2.2
txbass06 05-19-2009, 07:10 PM If I remember correctly, it was around 5800 or 5900... I was a little preoccupied watchin the road lol
Deuces 05-20-2009, 03:57 AM Hmmmm.... My 2008 LT 2.4L seems to hit a wall about 118.... I may have to test this again if a 2.2L can hit 125......... :steering::confused:
txbass06 05-20-2009, 08:51 PM I dont know what mine will do on its own. I was drafting behind the z and my front bumper was about a foot or so away from his back bumper.
GrotesqueFetus6 05-20-2009, 08:57 PM i hit 120 this morning when getting on to the hightway .

icemanss 05-23-2010, 11:12 PM i hit the governor at 126 mph on a long two mile bridge in temple, tx. i have since then added the cortex tuner and increased the speed limiter. still haven't had the chance to go back and see what it can do now.
Jaxon 05-26-2010, 11:20 AM the 5spd ss limiter is 155, didn't know the auto was different.
icemanss 05-27-2010, 10:43 PM i did this in my stock ss about 3 months after i got it, i have that little dash computer system that came with the car and i hit 126, i may not have hit the limiter so you are probably right about the setting. but i did run out of straight road, so had to lift off. I will actually be going down the same bridge this weekend. i now have the superchips cortex tuner on it, with the speed limiter lifted to the "superchips level" as they call it. my brother just bought a new mini digital recorder and he's going with me. I will film what i hit and post it, haven't seen any posts with that yet. should be fun.
Jaxon 05-27-2010, 11:26 PM Ive hit 138 in 4th gear in my 5spd with tune, couldve shifted to 5th and been fine but i didn't really want to. Its a little bumpy 2 lane "highway" on my way to work. Ill have to datalog a topspeed run one day lol.
icemanss 05-30-2010, 03:35 PM I hit 138 yesterday, and got it on film, check it out on youtube search hhr ss 130+. let me know what you think. only add on is the superchips cortex tuner. all else is stock. here is the link for the video.

Kev&Chers{SS} 08-05-2010, 09:03 PM I understand switching to "I" will kill the limiter in an auto? Not for sure on that but would like to try to find a place to do that
Sunflowerhippi 08-06-2010, 01:00 PM I have an auto and had no problem breaking 130... my goal was to max it out but I ran out of room.

With my luck, I would get busted!! :skull1:
They passed a bunch of crappy new speeding fines in this Province. 40km/h (or 25 mi/hr) over the speed limit and they impound your frickin car for a week plus a hefty fine!! Although, I haven't received a speeding ticket in my home province for 15 years, it isn't for a lack of driving fast... just fast AND smart! But now no one can afford to get caught! It's going to lead to more people driving without licences and insurance when they can't afford to pay a simple traffic fine. It's ridiculous!
Makes me want to move to the Isle of Man!!
http://www.iomguide.com/drivingontheisleofman.php
Unlike the UK there is no national speed limit. There are speed restrictions in built up areas, but after passing a 'National Speed Limit' sign there ceases to be any speed restriction, although people driving in a reckless manner may well be stopped by the police.

Are you in the area with like the $10,000 fine for speeding? My father told me something about Canada and some crazy fine for speeding.
HHR_SS_QC 09-17-2010, 05:44 PM Are you in the area with like the $10,000 fine for speeding? My father told me something about Canada and some crazy fine for speeding.
In the province of Quebec, the highway speed limit is 100Km/h (63Mph). If you get caught speeding at 240Km/h (150Mph) in a 100Km/h zone, the fine is over $2000.00 :skull::skull1: + lose your licence for a long time. And once you're allowed to resume driving, then your vehicle registration fee cost X 4, and your drivers licence cost X 4, and your car insurance cost rises x 3. :yikes::hissyfit:
That's why I try to avoid :steering: (whenever possible :biggrin2: )
Fox Hat 09-17-2010, 06:03 PM Ontario has what have been called "Street racing laws"
One of the fun parts of it involve the roadside impounding of your vehicle for going 50 kph over the posted speed limit.
If my gps is to be believed I could be in a little trouble!!! Check out the max speed.

Yeah, that will work (see two posts above yours). Just kidding though, I believe you.
Goose2448 10-06-2010, 02:08 PM Sorry dont have time to read the whole thread, Sorry if this is a repost. My HHR LT2 2.4 auto tops out at 110, where the governor kicks in. Its only running 6 grand in 3rd. It will not shift into 4th till you get off it and drop to 105 where its running about 4 grand. I have a feeling, a rather good one, that it would top out at around 140 without a gov. That gov. will be coming off shortly...
Dont ask how I know all this...
MeijerLPO 10-08-2010, 08:49 PM I would LOVE to say thank you for random Crotch Rockets coming up behind you.
I saw one coming, and dropped it to third and quickly got up to 90 and for 1/2 mile I held him behind me. Max speed during this rolling challenge, 96. O.O I would LOVE to find out what my 1/4 mile and 0-60 are in my HHR. Anyone in the Dayton Ohio area, have any ideas?

havoc3d 07-12-2011, 10:59 PM There's an open stretch of highway nearby, 4 lanes, all straight between two exits a few miles apart, divided with a barrier, so you can see clearly for miles. Hit it saturday morning when it was pretty empty. I'm using the "Speed" app from the Amazon Appstore on my Android, it's GPS based, and I've been testing it; it's generally within 1-2mph of my speedo, so I'd rate it as good enough.
Anywho, hit 154 and held it there for about 1 minute. It bounced down to 149 a couple of times for a second and then right back up. Helluva rush.
I can confirm that the speedo just stops at 140, doesn't go past that.
MeijerLPO 07-13-2011, 12:14 AM so your android app showed you past 140 at 154? Shizah!
