Any local car audio shop can build fiberglass tubbs for you easily.
It's not very expensive either (if you go to a good shop!).
The most important thing is that they use a thick front baffle board.

Check into it...

Take off the panel and look inside there. Looks impossible to me. Its not the same amount of room on each side.

does anybody know if the shape of an enclosure has anything to do with sound? The box I'm going to build will be odd shaped so I want to make sure it will sound good.Aslong as I have the correct air space I should be ok right?

Did anyone post in the forum the actual dimensions of the stock sub enclosure box? (HeightxWidthxDepth) (Or failing that, just the depth?) And does anyone have an opinion on the speakers that say their 'optimized' for small enclosures?

Skate - the shape doesn't have so much to do with the quality of sound as the size does. Most custom sub box builders will pay attention to two things: 1)the sub box is big enough and evenly matched to the size of the subs themselves, and 2) the total amount of air space in the box is (somewhat) acoustically matched to the size of the cabin space. The only other thing some sub box builders will pay attention to is padding the inside of the box OR filling part of it with foam in order to minimize vibration within the box itself. I've seen some pretty odd-shaped boxes that still sound great.

ODD is better, I would make sure that the dimensions of the box are not multiples of one another........

Shape doesn't matter in a small cabin environment like cars have...you won't get standing waves in any car...

Thanks fresh1. Please let me know how that sounds! (And did your HHR have the pioneer system, or are you going to get the sub encl. and install your own amp? )
I'm still figuring out how much upgrading my wife will put up with vs. how much of an improvement in the sound I can get. Mathmatically speaking.. is audio satisfaction > marital irritation. :)
