Probably 750+ miles, on the extended highway- 34-36, 25-28 in the city epending on how I drive. I don't drive it like I stole it. But occasionally put my foot down. XXXLRG 04-28-2008, 10:31 AM I have +/-2500 miles on my SS and travel 100 miles round trip to work - mix of rush hour expressway and 2 lane roads. Week after week, I have been averaging 28-30mpg which includes my weekend in town driving. This morning, I managed to hit all the lights green and little traffic and was able to clock just under 33 pulling into the parking lot. I got rid of a Crown Vic Ford for the SS and have not looked back yet.   08BlkSS 04-30-2008, 11:40 PM I have an auto and averaging about 21-24 city.....havent really done a lot of highway driving, just have 1,300 miles on her so far.... SOMBERSHARK0714 05-01-2008, 09:46 AM Gets An Average Of 22-25 Mpg City, 28-32 Highway With An Auto Ss. Retrorod 05-01-2008, 12:36 PM My 5 speed is averaging 24 mpg on my daily commute. I did a 1700 trip with alot of mixed road types and I got 26.9.....driving a bit aggressively sometimes. Chevy SS 05-08-2008, 12:45 PM 22-23 City haven't really taken it on the open highway for a full tank to see what it can do for me. Instant MPG states anywhere from 30-40 mpg on the highway. norcalmike 05-26-2008, 02:45 AM Just checked my first tank probably 70/30, highway/city and got 29mpg. Works for me. Was averaging 18-20 with my old Blazer Xtreme bobiroc 05-27-2008, 12:44 PM After about 3 weeks of ownership and 650Miles my HHR SS says an average of 23MPG and I am only on my 2nd tank of gas. I have yet to bring it on the highway but I suspect it to be in the neighborhood of 25 - 26MPG overall between city and highway driving. That is much better than my S10 SS got which was about 16 - 18MPG average. Chevy SS 05-27-2008, 12:51 PM 22 City for me after a couple of tanks. That is with some spirited driving :) Unclesams_SS 05-30-2008, 05:58 AM I'm at 28-29 commuting 15 miles each way. I always shift with the boost between 5-10 psi. REDFLYR 05-30-2008, 06:04 AM Don t reset your avg MPG until you do your oil change then you will really know your AMPG 18 - 19 mpg sounds about what my turbo PTC friends are complaing about SOMBERSHARK0714 05-30-2008, 09:07 AM Over This Past Weekend ( Memorial Day W.e.) I Got A Best 35.1 Mpg & I Was Pretty Much Babying It. Was Holding This For Like An Hr & A Half. Averaging Like 63 Mph. BZERKED 05-31-2008, 04:19 PM I put 105 miles down a day on my SS 5-speed and I am pulling 28-29mpg all day long.... unless I let the 2.0 off the chain... Still, in the LOW 20's with the hammer down. Jeff® 06-09-2008, 08:09 PM I just took a trip from Cleveland to Cincinnati to Pittsburgh and back to cleveland. Probably 750+ miles, on the extended highway- 34-36, 25-28 in the city epending on how I drive. I don't drive it like I stole it. But occasionally put my foot down. Another NE OH SS, and I'm doing pretty much the same. It's sweet compared to my 16 mpg pickup for a 70 mile daily commute. Plus if you GOTTA go fast, you can. bluonyx 06-10-2008, 12:01 AM I'm getting 21-22 in the city and 25-26 on the highway. Just took a Bakerfield road trip the other day around midnight averaged 300 miles round trip and got 23mpg @ 100mph. That was fun.:D bobiroc 06-10-2008, 06:16 PM I finally got mine on the highway and setting the cruise control to a nice crusing speed of 70MPH the instant Gas MPG was saying 34MPG. With just under 1400 Miles on the HHR the average MPG is showing 24.2MPG. Not too shabby.... Cokeybill 06-12-2008, 09:07 AM I got 33 mpg with cruise,A/C running at 60 mph:smile: ... 99 mpg downhill:lol: Unclesams_SS 06-12-2008, 08:46 PM I got my worst tank of gas thanks to the Hot Rod Power Tour. I averaged 24-25 mpg, but that was playing follow the leader for 200 miles. I was following a GT500, Procharged Z06, S281 Salleen and a couple of Mach1's, so needles to say the whole drive was very very spirited :D irloyal 06-13-2008, 08:14 AM Mixed commute of 37 miles each way, 11 miles city streets with 6 stop lights in each direction. Some putting to the Coldstone for Ice cream, grocery store etc. 67 mph on FWY when possible, some stop and go in traffic. This is my typical driving. MPG - Worst (after 500 mi break in) 25.2 MPG Best 27.7 MPG Best Mileage so far - 28.2 during initial 500 miles on a road trip from Denton TX to Duke OK. Thetaxi 06-13-2008, 02:19 PM Just curious as to which grade fuel you are using? Clevelandhhrss 06-13-2008, 04:13 PM Just curious as to which grade fuel you are using? 87-94 octane, i use both. I have never noticed a difference in mileage. I get dissapointed when i get less then 28mpg in the city and less than 35 on the highway....lol using 87. Cokeybill 06-14-2008, 08:19 AM I always use Hi octane. Pockets don't like it:( ...but I like what I get and have trouble free driving...BTW my SS really starts to perform at 80+mph.:guns: Handling is superb... it just grabs the road and wants to do it's own thing! Nothing like the feel of silk under your butt(I can't believe I said that) REDFLYR 06-15-2008, 07:39 AM 2006 we went from oak harbor, wa to polson, mt about 1000 miles round trip... mostly freeway... a week of running around polson... 32.2 for that week and half... now we only reset between oil changes... have about 3000 miles since last reset... 28.4 most country roads, freeway and downtown... pretty happy with that. discovered that the right rear tire was down to 22 psi... might make a little bitty differance. normal 34psi front 32psi back... original firestones... use moble 1... zmax... bosch plugs... regular gas... stay to the right... don t pass... rearlly go over 70... try to do the UPS thing (reduce left turns) not going to save hundreds of thousands of dollars like they do... but it makes sense, spend less time sitting around. REDFLYR 06-15-2008, 07:54 AM sorry for the previous post... just saw the 'SS'... isn t this kinda like comparing a 1970 chevelle 350 ci 2bbl 250 hp with a 70 chevell 'SS' 375 hp cowl inducted bb... and saying i am not to happy with my gas milage? there s an old adage... you can t have to much hp... but it s going to cost ya. more ways than one today. my 'little' 283 ci 4bbl got 12 mpg this weekend XXL 06-15-2008, 12:35 PM Nothing like the feel of silk under your butt(I can't believe I said that) Uh.... ??? http://www.soc.ucsb.edu/sexinfo/images/09-07-crossdresser.jpg tomo366 06-15-2008, 12:39 PM My 1st 2 tanks I averaged 21-22 all in town I am on trip right now and DIC indicated 31 coming down! I have an SS. The power hasn't hurt my mileage......unless I want it to. The Tuned LNF's haven't reported worse gas mileage either. Mrmaasta 06-15-2008, 03:14 PM 2008 HHR SS auto. First road trip yesterday. Had 175kms on it before I left. 913 kms NO cruise at any point. Speeds from 105 - 135, a few slow downs for construction, Calgary and some driving around Red Deer. Actual calc. and the dispay both gave me 26mpg. With cruise, a few thousand more kms and perhaps an intake/exhaust it should be right up close to the Balt in mpg. ColeTrickle 06-26-2008, 02:28 PM 08 SS 5spd (800 miles) On my second tank of gas and I am averaging 27 mpg on my 60 mile round trip commute (42 mph average speed) On level ground with the cruise at about 75-80 the car gets right at 32 mpg:thumb: The performance/MPG is hard to beat:one: jerSSey HHR 07-03-2008, 03:55 PM Okay - here's a dumb question. If the 2.0 turbo gets such good gas mileage, why not replace all the V-6 engines that are getting similar HP and repalce them with the 2.0 turbo engines? Even the Solstice GXP gets better gas mileage than the base Solstice. It seems that with the Ecotec turbo you can get great power and fuel mileage. Is it because people don't want to pony up the extra money for the turbo version? Because many of the V6 cars are more expensive than the HHR SS. People like cylinders, more=better....just like rims, and women...etc. I like efficiency, Period. That's what we have here, a gas sipping, powerful, large enough, small enough, 4 door, hatch, lightweight, well built thingomobobber. XXL 07-03-2008, 06:36 PM A lot of it is just ignorance. A 5000# car doesn't get rolling from a dead stop as well as a 3500# car. More pistons/more displacement _generally_ gives you more torque at usable levels... so the big car gets the big motor to get it rolling. Or low gearing.....lol...like a rock cawler with 35inch tires. Both bad for mileage..... |
