Hey everyone,

I went to my local toysrus yesterday and i found one HHR., I bought it and when i got home it took it apart so i caould paint it blue. It wasent hard at all to dissable. I painted blue last night and it looks great besides the grill is satin not bright chrome. When i got it the Side mirror Skull caps were body color, and so was the dual exhasuts and rear body bar. The roof rails and door handels were also satin. So i am now typing off all the bule and i am going to repaint the Grill, Foglights, Doorhandesl, Roofrails, Side Mirror Skullcaps, and rear bodybar Chrome. So i have to go to Homedepot tonioght and get some mettalic chrome spraypaint. I will post some pics later after its all done being painted. :thumb:

Sindy why did you sand it when you could have jsut gotten kyrlon Fussion paint for plastic that requires not sanding or priming, By the way the crome paint i used looks awsome, maybe next time i will try your advice Crowbar. Would any one like to post my pics for me? Sindy? If i send them to you will you post them for me?

Yup sanding is important to painting. If you want a nice smooth finish that actually adheres properly that is.

The color I wanted while I was at the hardware store wasent available and I didn't want to go else where. I forked out the dough where I was at.

How are all you folks so lucky? I tried my local Toys-R-Us and K-Mart several times. They had all the other models, including the PT Loser, but no HHR. As SoCal said, they can only be ordered in crates of 6 different models. I guess the HHR is popular and goes first.

Hey o6, What kind of paint did you use on the chrome parts? I think it's good for a young guy like you to have a dream car. I hope that you get a real one some day soon. Don't stop dreaming.

captain howdy
04-12-2006, 10:23 PM
I would hope his dream car isn't an HHR. I love my HHR but I would hardly consider it a dream car. When I was his age I though I was going to have so many cool cars for my first car and I ended up with an '89 Grand Am LE. I hope you end up with an HHR because it will be 1000% better than my first car. My first car was almost a near mint blue '65 Galaxy 500 but the guy kept dicking me around because he didn't really want to sell it. His wife was making him sell it because he had like 5 classics plus a truck and a van.

My first car was a '68 Ford Galaxy 500 that was a turquoise color. My brother totaled it :censored: :cussing: and then got a mint green Maverick. :red:

Capt. At 16, it probably is his dream car because he could never afford the payments unless his mom and dad can fork out that kind of money. My first car was a 49 fleetwood Cheverolet with a vacume shift and fender skirts. The color was a light green.

You would like to think that a "dream car" would be defined differently by those dreaming? :p: My first car, and it was a "dream car", because I never dreamed I could buy one was a 63 2dr. Chevy Biscayne I bought for $250.00 from a farmer in Great Falls, MT in 1978. If his choice of a dream car is an HHR, why is that so bad? Thank goodness not everyone thinks alike! ;)

Frist you have to undo the 6 screws that hold the body to the chassis after you get them out you will be able to take the body partialy off the chassis.

http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h144/06ChevyHHR/831db44a.jpg

Next i took off the front light that were held on with 2 screws. The same for the rear lights. The rear light were hard to put back in becasue of the tight space.

http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h144/06ChevyHHR/dde328ae.jpg

The next step was to get the circuit borad and the buttons out of the way. I frist unscrewed the 4 screws that hold on the circiuit board. I then got a pice of tape to put the bottoms on so i know where they go.

Next i masked the windows, Door Handels, Roof Rails and rear tailights off. :thumb:

http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h144/06ChevyHHR/DSCN0372.jpg

I then took it out and gave i a couple of coats using the Krylon Fussion Paint.

http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h144/06ChevyHHR/8fc9e478.jpg

And there you have it the Finished Product! ;)

Big Question ! I found a road ripper while on vacation this week. My real HHR goes in the body shop this week for hail damage (see my previous posts). I was going to prep my toy and ask the body shop to spray it when they spray my car. Will that paint stick to the plastic or am I just dreaming? It would be a perfect color match if it would work.

Dave, The paint will not stick unless you primer the Road Ripper with A Krylon or something similar. There have been some threads on this under new toy by Mike at SoCal.

There is also a plastic primer that can be applied, that allows other paints to adhere to...

go to your local HomeDepot or Lowes and they are sure to have some primer that will work, great idea, painted to match RR!!!

I used to show in lowrider and custom car shows all over florida, when I did, I got into doing models. Here is one that I did some "body work" to. I may get a RoadRipper and do some work on it.

now has anyone found a way to make it play a better song? I've had those dang toys in my cart 2 or 3 and when my son hits the play button and I have to listen to "ABC..Easy as 123.." I just take it and put it back on the shelf.
