Has anyone removed the panel from their rear lift gate? I can see two plastic rivet type pins toward the bottom of the gate but that's all, and i really don't want to damage anything trying to get it off.

Same here. (what he said). But judging from how all the door panels come off, I'm sure that's all you do - pop the two hold pins and lift it up.

Don't let the Emergency Hatch Release jump out at you though!

Ya know i hadn't even considered shaving the rear wiper, but now that you mention it that's a great idea since the wiper is part of my rattling woes. What I'm trying to do is dynamat the rear lift gate to reduce vibration and stiffen up the metal abit to reduce the flex. I would like to sound deaden the whole rear but one step at a time.

Yup, Chevy could us done us a favor and made that rear wiper an option. I know I would've gone without it.

i would also like to know, these 2 12's be rattling everything back there. i really think this whole car is going to get dynomatted. the rear rattles badly, and it looks like the rear gate flexes about an inch. it is funny listening to music and hitting the rear wiper, it bounces all over the glass.

I have always thought rear wipers were a good idea, but the HHR only goes half way. Plus, with it's verticle rear window, it never really gets too dirty or rained on.l

i dont know what kind of rain you have been driving in or if it is the fact that you might have running boards and mud flaps, but i know that last night we got hit pretty hard with a storm, and i never turned off the rear wiper because it was that bad. i have noticed that even if the roads are wet the back window gets pretty wet, it gets so wet that you cant even see out of it.

 that is what my face looked like when i pulled out the birth sheet to see it read 1095 at 2 ohms rms. i got a healthy alpine amp, most of the other owners have been getting 1010 - 1065 at 2 ohms, a few had some that read 1105 at 2 ohms. it must have been a good day at alpine when they made my amp.

Me thinks there is more to it than this but I can't for the life of me find a complete answer on this site. My question: after you pop the pins, then what?

Just took mine off. Pop the two hold pins then I started from the top and worked my way down. Have someone hold the door open for you and take your time. A nice quick sharp pull and everything starts to pop out.

I removed mine to change the lift gate handle. Those two pins are like the old fashion dzeus fastenerson a race car or aircraft. turn them one half turn counter clock wise and pull them out. The instructions that came with the handle made it easy but did not mention the pins which sheared very easily. Once you have the pins out look for any exsposed screws ( I am at work and have neither the instructions or the car here and winging it) then it should just pop off like any door panal. Just pry under the panal all the way around and pop out the push in fasteners. except for the pins it was pretty straigh forward. If you are planning on removing the handle you have to remove the wiper motor screws and let it hang there while you remove the handles. It sounds more compicated than it is.

I popped mine off and removed the wiper as well. Once I got the bottom two out (which I broke) the rest were pretty simple. I didn't pull the whole thing off...just raised it far enough to get the motor out and put it all back together. Got a couple black plugs from the Help section at Auto Zone and put them in and was good to go. Those plugs acutally worked better than what was one there and added a little contrast to the inside of the tailgate as they are black.

Here's what mine looks with the shaved rear wiper now.
