Hello Evertone,

I was looking at subs agin even tho i dont have a HHR yet i was doing some reaserch. My Cusin Has 2 12 inck Kicker Comp V's in his infenity G35, he said it took the rearview off 3 times. He is running 1200 watts. he was saying that he may get some solorbarics and if i wanted he would sell me his subs and amps :thumb: . i said ok just keep me in mind. this isent for sure yet but if he gets new ones i will buy his. They are in a sealed encloser , its not that big. It has a mono amp with 600 watts so i gess its 1200 watts total?

Here is a link to a pic of the subs, What do you guys/girls think? :thumb:

They're older Comp VR's, but good subs for the money.

What kind of amp? How much does he want for it all?

04-17-2006, 06:55 PM
Sorry Mike, Your math is a bit off :( 600 Watts is 600 Watts your not going to get more than that out of you 600W amp by adding more speakers. If you're going to run two subs off the one amp you'll get 300W per sub.

Click here for my choice of subs.... (http://www.chevyhhr.net/forums/showthread.php?t=1408)

The comp vrs are a good sub, jl audio w3's and up, elemental designs O series, resonant engineering xxx, etc.

how much money you want to spend, will help you decide on what subs you want.

That's all? Just kidding. Even when I get sick of the factory 6 disk and go totally aftermarket I probably won't go past $1000 maybe $1500 at most.

2800 to 3000 is more than enough in car stereo. what will cost the most will be the dynomat. this whole car is probally going to get it. im going to start in the back and work my way to the front. this baby needs to hurry up and get here cause daddy needs to finish his stereo ;)

I have worked for the Dept of Defense, for many years, and have worked on the many various Subs of the US Navy. I personnally like the Trident type Ohio Class Sub. Although, the Los Angeles Class Subs were very effective. Unfortunately, I changed careers right before they commissioned the Seawolf Class Fast attack Subs.

I would not trust a Russian Sub for the life of me. They have very poor nuclear control.

Here is a pic of an Ohio Class Sub :one:

Yellow Submarine (Lennon/McCartney)

In the town where I was born
Lived a man who sailed to sea
And he told us of his life
In the land of submarines

So we sailed up to the sun
Till we found the sea of green
And we lived beneath the waves
In our yellow submarine

We all live in our yellow submarine,
Yellow submarine, yellow submarine
We all live in our yellow submarine,
Yellow submarine, yellow submarine

And our friends are all on board
Many more of them live next door
And the band begins to play

We all live in our yellow submarine,
Yellow submarine, yellow submarine
We all live in our yellow submarine,
Yellow submarine, yellow submarine

As we live a life of ease
Everyone of us has all we need
Sky of blue and sea of green
In our yellow submarine.

We all live in our yellow submarine,
Yellow submarine, yellow submarine
We all live in our yellow submarine,
Yellow submarine, yellow submarine

We all live in our yellow submarine,
Yellow submarine, yellow submarine
We all live in our yellow submarine,
Yellow submarine, yellow submarine

hey 06 hhr i've found out it's a combo of two things what sound you want and how much you want to spend ( yes there is a difference in sound in subs ) as there is a different sound in all speakers so dont just jump at the first deal that you can get at least i wouldnt i would listen to them first
and see if you like them and then try different sizes of subs as for personal experence the good deal isn't always the right deal ...... just my opinon

I think the best thing I've heard, hands down, are the Stealthboxes that JL Audio puts out. They're awesome, I've had two Dodge Rams where I've put these things in and they are the best. The good thing is that all you have to do is hook them up to an amp and they're ready to go, carpet is color-matched to your vehicle and everything. Bad thing is that they haven't made one for the HHR - yet. Basically, they design the box to fit somewhere in the vehicle where it can be hidden and acoustically matched to the vehicle's interior. I had a Dodge quad cab where I put one in the rear, under the seats - it had two 10 inch subs and it rocked, regardless of what I listened to.

Just out of curiosity - where you gonna put the subs? I'm hoping someone will design something specifically for the HHR that will take advantage of the storage space in the back. It'd be cool if JL Audio or another company would design a box with something like a 12- or 15-inch sub that sits in that spot and doesn't take away from the cargo space. Are you planning on doing something like that?

TomsHHR

Maybe you could put one of them small coolers in the dash to keep your sub cold on the way home...

;) Hhaaa, I was thinking of just doing a box and putting it in the cargo area, and when it needed to be moved fold down the rear seats and push the sub box on them. This was my idea, i emailed JL and MTX and sevral other comps. Telling them to make a stealth box for the HHR. I dont think it will be a 15 most likly two 10's or a 12.

I thought JL was overpriced at one point, too, 'till I compared them to other brands and really heard the difference. But again, JL produces excellent sub sound (higher quality) rather than the "I can hear you comin' down the street" thumping. This is especially true if you get down-firing rather than standard face-up (or out) models.
