I got mine just like this one with leather cashmere enterior coming in next week!
This sure is sharp! I can't hardley wait. It has been on order for over four weeks. The dealer said that there was a big back log of orders for the HHR.
P.S. What do you think of the HHR club out of California?
Servant of the Lord,

Firewatcher 01-13-2006, 07:01 PM I've had black and silver vehicles before. I never liked black because it shows everything.....salt, rain, sand. This time around I tried out a nice red.
captain howdy 01-13-2006, 07:08 PM Neither of them are black and this thread is about black HHRs, not what color is your HHR. If you want to show off your own non black HHRs start a thread for them. Start a look at my orange HHR or look at my red HHR thread.
SoCalHHR 01-13-2006, 07:11 PM Uh-oh, - it's that time of the month!
captain howdy 01-13-2006, 07:43 PM I'm trying to clean up my act and stay on topic. :p: They are both cool HHRs but don't belong here. I'm ok, I took my Midol. :D

There are a few of your shots Holmes. All you have to do is cut and paste the the part where it says BB Image code. Highlight from where it say to the end where is says in the BB Image code box in the gallery, then right click cut, go to your post where you want to insert the image and right click paste. Photo inserted, hope that helps! ;) I've said it before but I have to say it again, I love the gold pinstripes! :thumb:
DoubleH-R lover 01-15-2006, 06:48 PM Love the black HHR, that's my color. I would love some of them flames though, totally HOT!!

Sunburst Orange is a thing of beauty, at least that is what I think every morning when I get into mine.

captain howdy 01-26-2006, 08:57 PM Anytime. ;)
captain howdy 01-26-2006, 09:06 PM Nice ride BTW. What billet grille do you have on? It's hard to tell from the shots. the Goldline springs look good on there also. What's your opinion of them? I want to get the annoying gap out of my wheel wells but I'm afraid the Goldlines will drop me too low.

i like the goldline springs. they give the car a nice look and ride great. i live in rural oklahoma and the roads are not great and they use dips in the road for water run off. you learn to adjust for the conditions. generaly speaking i love um. the grill is from mike at socalhhr. shorty antena as well. magnaflow exht sys. thanks.
BIG JIM WOODMAN 01-26-2006, 10:04 PM i'll post a better pic of the front end soon.

Is it a pretty stiff ride? I have the molded splash gaurds and I'm afraid of them scrapping and me bottoming out. I'm waiting for a full Magnafow exhaust system to come out and then I'll switch to them also. They are my favorite exhaust company.
SoCalHHR 01-27-2006, 10:14 AM Magnaflow already has their cat-back kit out. See it HERE (http://www.magnaflow.com/02product/shopexd.asp?zone=mainall&id=1085). I've heard it's pretty loud and ricey though...they had units on 4 cars at SEMA.
captain howdy 01-27-2006, 10:23 AM I've been to that page before but there is no picture, sound clip, or price so I don't know if I should trust the available now they have posted. Are you going to sell them? Magnaflow will always be my first choice and I like my exhaust loud but I don't want the ricey sound.

You had better face the reality that a loud exhaust on a 4 cylinder engine is going to sound "ricey".

Yeah, I know. :( If I wanted deep sound should have bought a V8. :D I'm sure the Magnaflow will still sound better than stock. ;)
SoCalHHR 01-27-2006, 12:08 PM Are you going to sell them? (Magnaflow)...
No. Most likely not.
You had better face the reality that a loud exhaust on a 4 cylinder engine is going to sound "ricey".
Not every time. We have found a setup that sounds great and gives some additional power. It is a muffler/tip combination that welds onto the HHR's stock 2-1/4" tubing. This setup sounds deeper than stock (almost "throaty"), and does not have the resonation build so typical of "ricey" exhausts. It is barely noticeable while driving "lightly" - but gives a deep sound of power upon hard acceleration. I personally witnessed strong 2nd gear chirps as well!
I'm working with the vendor right now and hope to have them available on our site as a "package" soon. Any local muffler shop can weld them on in under an hour (old removal/new install).
Mike,
Do you have dyno tests to back up the claim of "gives some additional power", other than "I personally witnessed strong 2nd gear chirps as well!"?
As asked before, sound clips would be nice. :thumb:
Another question: Is this potential muffler stainless like the factory one? That would be nice!
A good sounding and looking exhaust that can't be heard inside during normal cruising would be great. I really doubt any worthwhile power gains would be had though.
Last year my Mercedes had a (way too expensive!) muffler rust out. In looking for alternatives, I got lucky and found one on eBay. It was stainless with double outlets (slanted rectangular), close to the AMG ones. Looks fantastic and can't be heard unless you get into the throttle. I'd be tempted to put the same on my HHR, if (expletives deleted) GM can ever get it delivered! It's 2-1/2 weeks overdue now.
SoCalHHR 01-27-2006, 01:35 PM While we don't have any dyno tests to substantiate power gains at this stage, there is a little more development than "I got lucky and found one that fit on eBay" to it. :D Kenny (one of our customers), has installed 3 different mufflers on his HHR:
1) Magnaflow
2) Flowmaster
3) Our "chosen one"
He has put driving time in on all three and told me his findings. For what we're offering, I think "seat-of-the-pants feel and real-world "how loud it was while driving" input is much more valuable than marketing hype. In all honesty, I would only expect horsepower gains of 5-7hp max - and I would never claim any more. This muffler is much more free-flowing than stock (it is a "turbo" design), and is made by a reputable company. the tip will set this exhaust apart from stock as well.
While the HHR does have a galvanized heat shield under the stock muffler - I've never seen a stainless steel version as you mentioned? I have a 2.4L and mine is certainly not stainless...
We will have sound clips soon.

2LTs have an entirely stainless exhaust. I can back that up.
SoCalHHR 01-27-2006, 02:06 PM I have a 1LT - so I guess that explains it.
captain howdy 01-27-2006, 02:08 PM Just like I needed the speakers explained to me. :D

MY RIDE QUAILITY DID NOT CHANGE IT STILL RIDES GREAT! I'VE HAD MANY LOWERED VEHS AND THIS ONE RIDES FINE.

Thanks for the responce. Everyone with the Goldline springs seem to be very happy with them. ;) Maybe I shouldn't wait for Eibach and just jump on the Goldlines.
SoCalHHR 01-27-2006, 04:04 PM UPDATE: I just came back from the dealer and looked under several 2LT's. ALL have the same exhaust and muffler I have on my 1LT with 2.4L. I suppose the tubing might be "stainless" (although a very cheap mixture - not hardly a quality polished tubing), the muffler is not. It is the same funky aluminized heat shield covered "turtle" my 1LT has.
Putting on this replacement muffler will definitely increase the looks back there too. I will record sound clips of my stock HHR at idle, revving, and on a run through the gears this weekend. I plan to have the new muffler installed next week, so once that is done, I'll record the new sounds and post them on our site for your listening pleasure.
AEM has my stock dyno figures, so if I can just get it dyno'ed afterwards there should be some confirmation. The only problem: for accurate figures you need to use the same dyno and same techniques. Running on another dyno won't be a fair comparison...and I'n not ready to drive all the way back into LA to AEM just for this.
Stay tuned...

i wish you lived closer, i'd let you drive mine. i think you'll be suprised. btw i think a good clean ext sys like magnaflow will let the eng breath better thus a small hp increase. mine sure seems to rev quicker. and be more resposive.
i used to own a small mini truck shop in lompoc CA. back in the early 90s so iv'e tried alot of car goodys, some good some bad. but it's fun and better than a drug habbit. cheeper too. try stuff! my2c. later,
snksknr94 01-27-2006, 08:14 PM You guys must have some really high tech "ass" dynos. You'll never feel a 5 hp gain, I barely noticed the 75 hp gain with the 75 jets in my Camaro. Other than I picked up 7 mph in the quarter and put a bus length on a Ferrari 360, it was really hard to tell. You'd kinda feel the initial hit, but that was really it, now the 100 jets were a different story.
SoCalHHR 01-27-2006, 08:43 PM If you can't notice when the bottle comes on - you're beyond any help I can offer... :D
snksknr94 01-27-2006, 09:03 PM If you can't notice when the bottle comes on - you're beyond any help I can offer... :D
You could feel the hit but that was about it. Thats why I think it's funny when people doing a small mod and say they felt the difference, I think it's more in their head. They want to feel like that money they just spent did something so they think there is really a seat of the pants gain.
captain howdy 01-27-2006, 09:27 PM If you put enough small HP gains together you can feel it but I agree you can't feel 5 HP. Although an entire freeflowing catback exhaust can make you car feel a lot more responsive. ;) Or if it's too freeflowing can make it feel way less responsive. :D
HHR DLYT 01-27-2006, 09:48 PM i wish you lived closer, i'd let you drive mine. i think you'll be suprised.
I know that I was not convinced about the goldline springs, but I got to drive Mike's HHR on our cruise night (thanks again Mike). My very large husband also got to ride shotgun with Mike and I was surprised that Mike's ride did not bottom out on a very dicey driveway.
I am now a believer in the goldlines. It is just a matter of time until I install them too.....
