View Full Version : Difference between manual and automatic
Motorhead 06-30-2008, 02:06 PM I see that the HHr list the 260 hp on the manual and 235 hp on the automatic! Can anyone tell me what changes they made so I might boost hp on a automatic? Maybe a chip or power module? Also has anyone heard what they are going to do for the 09 model in the way of engine hp? Thanks

hello and welcome......check out this section, along with the SS section. use the search, there are quite a few threads and many posts with all of the info you are looking for. The PPC tuner is out and available, but the auto version is still being worked on.......there will be choices in the future.....
Chevy SS 06-30-2008, 09:09 PM I am willing to bet they aren't changing the power for the 2nd year of production. But yes, a PPC tuner would boost the power (when the auto is available) standard bolt ons such as exhaust and intake would help out a bit as well.
405HP_Z06 06-30-2008, 10:47 PM I've seen many different horsepower ratings for the A4 SS and from what GM Powertrain lists as the SAE J1349 test the A4 is 250 HP peak but limited to 222 lb/ft torque due to the maximum torque rating of the transmission. Horsepower is limited in 1st and 2nd gears by limiting maximum boost.
In case you haven't seen it, here is the SAE certified J1349 dyno graph:

jerSSey HHR 07-03-2008, 03:51 PM So the auto should have plenty of HP for higher speed passes on the highway, correct?

Correct. 1st and 2nd gears are boost limited to 235 HP. At highway speeds in 3rd and 4th gears, the max HP is 250.

awesome
bobiroc 07-27-2008, 01:02 AM Unless you are planning on Racing your SS I think the stock HP with an Auto is plenty. It has plenty of power that kicks in when you need it. I think once you get yours you will find that to be true. Wouldn't the dealer let take on for a spin? or didn't they have one? I took one on a 20 mile ride before I bought it and I was like this little thing has a WOW factor.
Lone Ranger 07-27-2008, 09:53 AM You can't get limited slip differential with the automatic. There is an after market limited slip differential available for the 4T45E automatic transaxle, though.

Dealer only had a 5 speed so I drove that. I intend to drive the auto in the next couple days.
08HHR SS 08-05-2008, 12:02 AM LSD is stock on the automatic
Victory Red 08 HHR SS
LSD is stock on the automatic
Victory Red 08 HHR SS
Wrong!!
The LSD is not available on an Automatic equipped car.
405HP_Z06 08-05-2008, 12:47 AM Currently, the general doesn't offer an LSD for the 4T45E transmission. You have to go aftermarket to get one.

Where would one go for the aftermarket LSD for the automatic trans? Also many people have stated that the input shaft and lower gears can only take so much HP so the engine control limits power on the automatic.
Is anyone making upgraded/stronger parts for the automatic trans to beef it up so that it can handle the extra HP?

HHR 'Black Death' 08-15-2008, 01:00 AM I didn't see a full kit for the 4T45E. Just a 4T65E. Heck they just need to make an harden input shaft. the others are around 150-200 bucks on that site.
