View Full Version : Sex of HHR owner/drivers
mrbcruzn 10-28-2005, 04:57 PM I was wondering how if we could do poll on the sex of HHR drivers, not sure how to do it. I saw a few years ago, the they found most PT owners were middle age women. Just curious, who likes the HHR style and ride the most, women or men?

hhrrussell 10-28-2005, 05:53 PM hi i'm male and 65 on 11 14 like the car but just cant get the gas mileage that i see on most of these forum's, just turned 2000 miles on mine and most of it is city driving.
SoCalHHR 10-28-2005, 06:31 PM I'm male and 47 on 11/25 bought the car because we have a 1-year old and my previous car was a truck. I was looking for something with hauling room, baby room, and great mileage. I test drove the Honda Element, Ridgeline truck, and several small 5-door hatchbacks - nothing else came close to the HHR.
About this: "like the car but just cant get the gas mileage that i see on most of these forum's, just turned 2000 miles on mine and most of it is city driving."
City driving will drag your MPG down in a hurry. The HHR computer calculates mileage on current speed, distance traveled, engine RPM, and current throttle position. At highway speeds these things remain more constant, but with city stop/go driving, every time you stop accelerating and start to "lightfoot' it, it's time to stop again (for a light, stop sign, or an errant kook). Everytime that throttle opens up...mileage starts to go down. Letting off the accelerator completely while coasting to a stop sign or light will boost MPG also.
Try resetting your MPG computer at the next refill and diligently "lightfoot" it. Keeping the RPM's under 2000 while cruising will help some. MPG always comes at the expense of exciting power - you can't have both! I'm currently getting 27MPG around town and just completed a 160-mile trip at 32MPG (elevation went from 1200-6800ft. too!).
Hope it helps,
-Mike
captain howdy 10-28-2005, 09:50 PM I'm a 28 year old male who bought the HHR because I needed room for my family. I have a two year old, a nine year old step-daughter, and my wife is due with our second child in a week. The HHR is the first family size vehicle that made me want to give up my Mustang. :(
Holmes Hot Ride 10-28-2005, 10:03 PM I am a 62 year old male and bought this for my wife and plan to use it as family car. I drive a Saturn Vue. I will drive it on week ends and Holidays. Bought it for the looks, miledge and price.
juicedhhr 10-28-2005, 10:23 PM I'm a 38 year old male and I bought the car because I had to start driving to work (45-50mile round trip) every day versus taking the bus, and my 95' Suburban was killing me at 12mpg! I love the looks and the price. Just under 20K for mine.....
HHR2006 10-29-2005, 02:35 AM Hello Everybody in Chevyhhr, This will be my first post but I'm a 21 year old Male and I bought this vehicle becuase i need the cargo space to carry my tools and all my school books & to save on gas but, especially because it looks so bad ass :thumb: . Well I got a Blue LS 5SPD
SIHHR 10-29-2005, 12:46 PM 24 Male. Traded in my 2000 SE Ford Foucs the second I saw the HHR. Loved the looks. Silver LT2
adamlowery 10-29-2005, 02:31 PM 20 Male. Previous car was a 1990 cavalier. What an upgrade!!
wayne 10-29-2005, 04:40 PM 59 and purchased the spot red LT2 traded in a 2002 Tahoe. Like the milage, was worried about the 4 cylinder engine, but after driving the HHR that isn't a problem at all.
I am getting around 25 mpg around town and on the highway I am getting around 27 mpg. Highway speed is normally set at 72 mph, but from time to time it is pushing 80.
Long_Tall_Texan 10-29-2005, 04:50 PM 31 yr old male - Dont have one yet, but plan to order a black 2LT in the near future.
30 - male - Don't have one yet, plan to buy in early 2006, blue or black 2LT.
teknobunie 10-30-2005, 01:05 AM 29 FEMALE, bought mine 8/16, because I thought it "funky", just my style!!!!!
fenris222 10-31-2005, 03:14 PM Whenever Lady Fenrir wants to drive my HHR....OOOHHHH! 19 with 23 yrs. experience M/Lupe!
mrbcruzn 10-31-2005, 06:51 PM Looks like mostly guys are going for the HHR at the present.
I've talked to some real young kids and they hate the shape,
guess they like the Sion look. I be 58 so I like the fender looks.
My first car was a 55 Buick and it sort of had fenders and big bullet bumpers.
Had a 01 PT also, but liking my HHR a lot, the 26 mpg in town is great!
Sold my 10-12 mpg Dodge Rumble Bee, hemi's are nice, but you don't
need a hemi for doing most intown driving....
captain howdy 10-31-2005, 09:29 PM That's the first time in my life I have ever seen a car described as funky. :thumb:

What number was your Rumble Bee? Hopefully it wasn't real low.
mrbcruzn 11-01-2005, 05:05 PM My Rumble Bee was 4271, they made 5,000 of them in 04,which mine was, an another 5,000 at least in 05 which were called the Second Swarm. Each Rumble Bee had its number on the dash below the radio. Its not being made anymore, they have switched to the Daytona, which I believe has some higher numbers, but it is available in a four door PU, which the RB was not.
I just had the RB for a year, sort of got it on inpulse. The Hemi was cool, Nice riding, the inside cab wasn't as nice as the HHR, more room of course in the RB, but 90% of my driving is daily driving to work, from 25 - 35 mph, most times. I was getting about 10-12 mpg with the RB, it was sweet ride. But I only used the back pickup bed about twice, so like did I really need the PU? It was a 4x4 so it did very well in the snow and ice, and the 20" tires were pretty cool. But I don't have any buyers remorse on buying my Black HHR LT2. It made 26 mpg on its last tank, that was all in town. Cost about $30 some to fill up as compared to almost $70 for the RB. Big difference. I got that 3% deal, so I actually have the same payments that I had before, 5 years to go. I hope I can keep a car 5 years is my plan. I've never gotten a car payed off, it must be nice for some. I'm thinking of doing that. This is my forth black vehicle, and they sure look nice clean, but dirty, they are not that cool. Enough....
mtbiker-s 11-04-2005, 06:31 PM I'm 32 male, I got the car cause even though I'm 2 miles from my job, I go out on the weekends alot. Drive all over the place. Well my 4X4 Avalanche gas bill was cutting into my play money so the wife and I decided on this car cause it gets great gas milage and everytime we see the car we always say "Damn, that's a good lookin car". Looking into getting rid of our 2001 Suburban and possibly getting a 4X4 Colorado for those days when we go play in the snow.
Markiemark 11-04-2005, 09:52 PM 36 Male, grew up with a dad that customized and built Street Rods. We bulit up a 48 Chevy as a street rod, HHR reminds of that fun car. My HHR is 2LT Loaded, with most of the options. Traded in a 98 S-10. Love the old car look, also I do a lot of cycling, the vehicle should be a good substitute for gas guzzling SUV. I have been getting 29 miles per gallon, great!!!!
chiside33 05-21-2007, 04:38 PM hi new to the site and i was just wondering if the hhr is more or less driven by male or females? when i see them on the street i usually see a woman driver. how do you guys feel about this?
HillsdaleHHR 05-21-2007, 04:57 PM http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o132/pats50fan/smilies/welcome4.gif to the site!!! I see quite a few and they are driven by a wide range of people from young to old, male to female, straight to gay. Enjoy your ride!!!
Mellow 05-21-2007, 05:01 PM I just came from the garage.. I looked all over under the rear section.. couldn't find anything that proved it was a male or female car... lol
O6ChevyHHR 05-21-2007, 05:05 PM I also see teens both male and females driving them to old folks
dbarberaz 05-21-2007, 05:13 PM Sorry i dont let my wife drive mine :p:
Firewatcher 05-21-2007, 05:19 PM It's more of a "guy thing" however we are soon to be outnumbered. One things for sure........a few of our female counterparts have some nicely modded HHR's.
captain howdy 05-21-2007, 05:21 PM I still count as a guy if I'm driving around in drag right?
HillsdaleHHR 05-21-2007, 05:22 PM :laughabov :laughabov Are you still wearing the mask?!?

Alzonie 05-21-2007, 05:31 PM Sorry i dont let my wife drive mine :p:
 Just the opposite with me! Then again, She works and I don't. Not much reason for me to drive around just to burn up gas! She has no problem with me making the car payments though! :(
Thylacine 05-21-2007, 05:35 PM Well the car has a DIC.......
Back on topic: I have seen about equal numbers of guys and gals driving them, but there are few HHRs around here.
Alzonie 05-21-2007, 05:42 PM :D If you change that second "H" to an "E". Then it's HERs!
SandyBeach 05-21-2007, 05:48 PM Many have posted that the husband bought the HHR but the wife claimed it after driving it a few times. I think we're a very diverse group and that's what makes us so much fun!

But she wont let me drive her Equinox much after I put the DVD system in it
R CA HHR 05-21-2007, 06:07 PM After that stupid a$$ commercial with all the guys running up to the HHR with four girls in it and washing it with there shirts off, I've got nothing but crap about how its a girl car from the guys at work, They all say they like it but think it is a girls car. Thats part of the reason why ours is still unnamed, the wife wants to give it a girl name and I just want to name it something cool.
chiside33 05-21-2007, 06:07 PM yeah i hear alot of guys post on her saying "my wifes hhr". either way if im sitting in it it will be a mans car. plus i plan to mod it to look meaner.
the_dogs-bollocks 05-21-2007, 06:13 PM I think minivans are more gurly, ya know soccer moms and stuff....

When I say that, you need to know we BOTH have an HHR!:D
Driving mine around the super-speedway at Bristol last summer convinced her she wanted one too. NO ONE could call it a girly car. She has a bada$$ looking HHR.

GuitHHR 05-21-2007, 06:38 PM Of the 4 people in my town that own HHRs that I personaly know, not counting my wife and me. Three are men and only one is a girl. But my wife usually drives ours so I guess thats 3 men to 2 women, pretty close.

I do see more girls/ladies, driving the HHR, and it is my wife`s car, but it has two names,(1) The Cruck & (2)the Beautiful One.
I use both, according to how I feel.
PS. How can you tell if a person is Gay by the car they`re driving?
Is there a straight only car?
HillsdaleHHR 05-21-2007, 06:45 PM From the people on here ;). Plus some people use the rainbow symbol stickers on their cars.
Black Beauty 05-21-2007, 06:52 PM I`ve never seen any Rainbow stickers.
I`ve never seen any ChevyHHR.net decals either.
What does that mean?

oneton 05-21-2007, 07:18 PM Our HHR'S must be bi we both have one!
the_dogs-bollocks 05-21-2007, 07:23 PM I don't know about a straight only car, but Kirsty Ally did a show once where there was a car club of miatas and the owners were all gay.
courthousedeb 05-21-2007, 07:40 PM I have met 5 different HHR owners and all but one was a guy. When I'm driving out on the road, it's about 50/50 when it comes to male/female drivers.
Somewhere a while ago this same topic came up and also talked about the PT Cruiser. At that time, the general cencensus was that the Cruiser was a girly car and the HHR was more masculine. I'll see if I can dig that thread up. :thumb:

I`m still trying to find site members, usually I`m just passing another HHR, not behind them...
Goose 05-21-2007, 09:13 PM People use to say that my Matrix was a chick's car but I never saw anybody but old farts driving them around here (myself included)
I drive whatever I want..people can have any damn opinion they want but when it comes down to it the only one that matters is mine
(and most of the time my wife's but you didn't hear me say that)

If this does not agree with you, then just bypass it, no reason for your response.
txbowhunter 05-21-2007, 10:28 PM Most of the drivers I've seen were females, probably 3f/2m. but sometimes it's hard to tell when your rolling past them at 90-95 mph:poke: :poke: :bye:
Snoopy 05-21-2007, 10:46 PM Actually chiside33....you do raise a question that probably has been answered by Chevrolet and/or GM.
I know they both perform marketing studies to determine the LIKELY buyer of a particular model vehicle (demographics). After a certain period of time, they also conduct studies to determine who the buyers ACTUALLY are.....
captain howdy 05-21-2007, 10:46 PM Gotta pic, I don`t think I`ve seen one?

There are tons. Way too many to post pics of but here's a link with a bunch.
http://www.overtherainbowshop.com/stickers.htm
Just like many of us have stickers on our rides to show our pride in our country, or our nationality, favorite sports teams, and so forth rainbow stickers give Gay and Lesbian people a chance to say that they're proud of who they are. I see them all the time in every shape, form, and saying. I know a few people with them on their rides too. Before I moved to the suburbs in my last house in the city there was a house like three houses down that flew a rainbow flag alongside an American flag. I bet that pissed a few people off.
captain howdy 05-21-2007, 10:54 PM I know the carwash add made me want to sell my HHR and buy an Escalade. Talk about taking the masculinity out of the vehicle. Every time I see it my testosterone level drops. :red: Unless I'm watching my version (http://www.chevrolet.com/carwash/?movieid=9C25659D-063D-4965-B0BE-AA83C69BADF1)but it's like a Gary Coleman nightmare mixed with a bad gay joke. :rof:

It's still being aired?? Or do you have it recorded, and just watch it to punish yourself?
Black Beauty 05-22-2007, 07:03 AM I`ll just keep an eye out for ChevyHHR.net decals, I`m not really interested in some ones sexual proclivities, seeing how I`m not gonna be having sex with them, it doesn`t matter.
solman98 05-22-2007, 07:38 AM I think the only "official" girly cars are the Miata and the Beetle........
krishaynes 05-22-2007, 08:10 AM I think the HHR is more of a guy car, as does my wife. Her Sunfire does look girly parked next to mine.
As for “the ad”; I thought it was hilarious! Then again, I’m a big fan of way over the top humour. I don’t think it made the HHR seem less of a guy car at all.
Mellow 05-22-2007, 08:19 AM I guess... if you care what other people think.. you could sell the HHR and get a vette... well, but then again, doesn't barbie have a vette?... hmm.. okay, guess a pick up would be the only safe bet.. Can't get any type of SUV because they are all considered mini-vans on steroids driven by soccer moms..
I think the HHR is cool.. has a retro-look to it that is just great.. I drive my fiance's cobalt because I can't get the HHR keys away from her - it's like that one commercial where each one of the couple leave earlier and earlier to get their pick of the cars..
At some point in your life, some sooner than others, you stop caring what other people think and you do what you like because it makes you happy.. then, as people see that you don't care, they begin looking at your point of view and respecting you for not listening to those that always have a negative spin on things...

Firewatcher 05-22-2007, 08:39 AM Have we made any determination yet? I drive an HHR, with firefighter union stickers as well as my daughter's college logo and a NE Patriots decal, and my ChevyHHR.Net decals on both side rear windows. On the other hand, my wife drives her 2001 Chevy S-10 crew cab pick-up everywhere, has the same decals except for the HHR.net. I used to wear a kilt when I played in a bagpipe band, but never wore a mask. Can anyone help me sort all of this out? :clappy:

Dude, you bought a girl car?
May 15th, 2007 by Will ThompsonDisclaimer:
Please note that we here at AutomotiveBlogger.net are not recommending cars for girls, nor are we recommending men don’t buy the following cars. This blog is written in the United States of America, and for the time being we are all free to buy whichever car we wish. If I happen to name the car that’s in your driveway and you suddenly feel insulted, well, lighten up, Francis. My aim with this post not to insult, but rather it is to point out that at some point after buying one of the cars on this list that you will most likely hear a comment about your car being a “girl car”. If you’re a “damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead” kind of person then not only do you have my admiration and respect, but you are also free to read on, Admiral Farragut. If you are not and you buy one of the cars on this list, then don’t say I didn’t warn you.
5.) Mazda Miata
When the Mazda Miata was introduced in 1989 as a 1990 model, it was meant to herald the second coming of convertible sports cars that were small, handled great, and were sparse on conveniences. Sports car guys were giddy, especially the editors at car magazines like Car and Driver and Road and Track, who saw the Miata as a return to cars like the Lotus Elan and the MGB of the mid 1900s. Unfortunately, they were really cute and affordable and became the epitome of a top-down-at-the-mall girl car. The Miata is pretty far down the list due to a seriously fanatic group of supporters at places like Miata.net, a pretty hardcore racing series, and the awesomely badass Monster Miata conversions.
4.) Toyota RAV4
With as many soccer moms as you see driving tank-like SUVs down the road, you’d think picking a girl-SUV would have been easier than I found it to be. Since Marge Simpson’s Canyonero isn’t a real car, I picked the small SUV that I’ve never known to have been bought by a guy for himself (including the one I looked to buy - not for myself): The Toyota RAV4. Just look at it. If it were smaller, you could totally picture it in a woman’s closet, couldn’t you?
3.) Volkswagen (New) Beetle
I have to confess: I love Volkswagen Beetles. Older ones, that is. I have all the Herbie movies on DVD, and I even have a Herbie Rides Again paperback book. For being as groovy and cult-worthy as the old ones were, the newer ones just don’t look right with a man behind the wheel. Volkswagen may as well embrace their image and make a Hello Kitty edition of this car.
2.) Mustang Convertible (especially the four and six cylinder versions)
Cute sister of the more macho Mustang GT, this is the car that car guy dads get for their daughters and drive themselves around in on the weekends while the daughter is “grounded”. Suuuuurrrre it’s your daughter’s car, car guy dads of America. Whatever you guys need to tell yourselves to sleep better at night. It’s her car.
1.) Volkswagen Rabbit/Golf Cabriolet
This is the quintessential girl car. It’s impossible for a guy to drive one for a week and not hear comments about how “girly” it is from guys and “cute” it is from girls. As if they just plain gave up on any semblance of masculinity, Volkswagen even used the French word for “car with a folding top”.
If I ever saw a male construction worker jump into one of these after a hard day on the job, I would have an immediate coronary.
There you have it. Anybody remember one I missed?
–Will Thompson
girl car, miata, mazda, volkswagen, golf, rabbit, convertible, escape, ford, mustang, toyota, RAV4

Women tell us they prefer a car that's agile, has good visibility, and isn't a chore to drive. Many like to sit higher and most rightly insist on plenty of storage space, reasonable prices and low running costs. Space for growing families is essential in many cases and safety is a major factor. Furthermore, many women tell us that a high fun-to-drive factor is important.
The ten cars listed below meet these criteria while allowing for different tastes, lifestyles, and incomes.
1) Honda Fit
The Honda Fit is just one of a handful of subcompacts now on the US and Canadian markets, but few others can match the Fit's balance of front seat, back seat and trunk room. The Fit is especially handy in urban areas, where its small size allows it to nip through traffic and squeeze into tiny parking spots. Its fuel-efficient 1.5 liter engine has plenty of get-up-and-go, even with an automatic transmission, and Honda quality means it'll last an eon.

2) Mazda 3
Mazda's new compact brings with it a combination of style, space, and driving pleasure not often found in this class. The 4-door costs less initially but we recommend the 5-door for all-round practicality, not to mention a little elbow room for a growing family.

3) Mazda MX-5 Miata
The Miata is a great set of wheels for a woman who doesn't have a family, and an excellent second car for one who does. Few cars deliver the Miata's combination of fun in the sun and raw driving thrills, and even fewer deliver such great fuel economy while doing it. Though trunk room is tight, the Miata offers just enough room for a romantic weekend getaway for two. And on a day-to-day basis, it's a great way to put a little sparkle into your commute.

4) Volkswagen Jetta
Volkswagen's compact sedan offers up enough individuality for an independant woman, enough cachet for the up-and-coming executive, and enough room for a growing family. We're especially enamoured of the hot-rod turbo version, which has the same engine as VW's boy-racer GTI. (We like the other versions too, especially the super-frugal diesel-powered Jetta TDI.)

5) Ford Focus
The Ford Focus has a markedly different character than most Ford products sold in the US and Canada. That's because it was developed by Ford of Europe -- that's right, this is an honest-to-goodness European car. The tall cabin, upright driving position, roomy interior and trunk and smile-generating driving experience all come courtesy of the Focus' old-world roots, but with the humble Ford badge on the boot -- er, trunk -- you aren't paying for a fancy European name.

6) Subaru Forester
The Forester toes the line between car and SUV, but unlike most crossovers, the Forester does everything well. On the road it offers invigorating handling and performance; off road it'll keep up with many bigger, brawnier SUVs. And when the weather turns foul, the Forester is one of the best vehicles of any size for safely negotiating slick roads. All this plus lots of cargo space and good fuel economy. The downside? Awkward looks and a tight back seat. Overall its an outstanding package.

7) Toyota Camry
There's a reason the Camry is the best selling car in the US, and has been for years: It does just about everything well. It's roomy, quiet, comfortable, and built like the proverbial brick outhouse. With the new-for-2007 redesign, the Camry offers more choice than ever. Most buyers will opt for the well-priced and well-equipped Camry LE, but don't overlook the fuel-efficient Camry Hybrid, luxury-oriented Camry XLE and sporty Camry SE.

8) Mazda 5
Mazda's answer to the minivan is the 5 -- a one-box minivan-like design (complete with sliding doors for the back seats) built on the platform of a subcompact. The result: A 6-seater that's fun to drive and gets great fuel economy.

9) Honda Civic
Civics are everywhere, and with good reason: They're economical, easy to drive, and they run like a Swiss watch. With their blue-chip resale values and impeccable build quality, Civics are good investments both short- and long-term. Innovations like a totally flat passenger floor (no center "tunnel") make the Civic comfortable and practical. Hybrid and natural-gas powered versions are perfect for the cost- and environment-conscious. Without question, this is the compact-class leader.

10) Mercedes-Benz E-class
You've worked hard. Now enjoy it! The Mercedes E-class offers more prestige of the three-pointed star. The E is ideally sized, big enough for the family to ride comfortably (without a chorus of "Mom, he hit me!" "She hit me first!" from the back seat), but small enough for easy parking and urban handling. The E is the practical way to treat yourself right.

solman98 05-22-2007, 01:24 PM Here's a Man's list......
The Top Ten Cars for Women has been one of the most popular articles here on About.com Cars for as long as I can remember. No, it's not a list that highlights visor mirrors and places to stick your purse. Women tend to be more practical when it comes to buying cars (just as men tend to be more practical when it comes to buying shoes), and the Ten Best Cars for Women is a guide to practical buying.
In the interests of equal time, I decided to publish this list. For guys, it's not about what we need, but what we want. Are these cars practical? Some of 'em. Sensible? Maybe. But they're cool -- and that's what counts.
1) Chevrolet Corvette
While there are no doubt plenty of women who are Corvette owners, the 'Vette always has been, and always will be, a guy's car. Not only is it the symbol of the male mid-life crisis, but its wide body and over-the-top V8 engine make it an ode to excess that the male members of our species are hard-wired to appreciate. And then there's the Corvette's inherent patriotic appeal -- and the fact that Chevy has improved the chassis to the point that the newest 'Vettes are serious track cars, makes it all that much more rewarding to thumb one's nose at Porsche owners.
2) Chrysler Sebring Sedan
Guys are not known for our taste in furnishings -- witness such brilliant creations as the wagon-wheel coffee table. So while the Sebring's plethora of interior materials, all joined together in one disharmonious bowling-shirt-like whole, may cause women to retch, it's just the sort of more-is-better décor that guys like me love. The Sebring isn't great to drive, but it's wonderful to sit in.

3) Dodge Magnum
For years, the station wagons were the mommymobiles of choice -- but the Magnum shows us that wagons can be manly, too. With engine choices starting at 190 horsepower and going all the way up to the 340 hp and 425 hp Hemi V8s, plus big wheels and magnificently menacing styling, the Dodge Magnum practically drips testosterone. Each time I drive one, I look underneath for a pair of… well, you know. I haven't found them, but I'm sure they're under there somewhere.
4) Dodge Viper
510 horsepower now, 600 horsepower coming in 2008. 'Nuff said.
5) Honda Accord
The stereotype says that men are supposed to know all about cars, but the truth is that many of us don't. That's where the Honda Accord comes in. To the world, it says, "This person is beyond all this go-faster nonsense! He wants sensible, reliable transportation for himself and the family." To us, it says, "Just enjoy the V6 and the leather, and I'll keep you out of the repair shop. Your wife never has to know that you don't understand a thing your mechanic is talking about!"
6) Honda S2000
The S2000 is the Mazda Miata for guys. Not to knock on the Miata -- I mean, let's face it, in terms of pure driver appeal it's one of the best cars on the market. But why have 166 horsepower when you can have 237? Why have a 6,700 RPM redline when you can have an 8,000 RPM redline? Why have manual operation for the absurdly light top when you can have power? The S2000 is like a Miata with extra cheese and extra bacon. Do you need it? Nah. Is it good for you? Probably not. Are you gonna get it? Hell yeah!
7) Infiniti G35
There are plenty of rear-wheel-drive sport-luxury sedans on the market, but it's the G35's 350Z DNA (see below) that gives it its guy appeal. The G35's 306 horsepower makes cornering with finesse a little tricky -- it takes a light foot when exiting corners to avoid incurring the traction control system's wrath -- but this car jets away from the traffic lights like nobody's business. And the rear-wheel-drive layout may rob rear-seat and trunk space -- but, hey, that's why they invented the two-car family.
8) Lexus LS 460
Gadgets and guys just naturally go together -- do you think it's a coincidence that they both start with the letter G? The LS has long been the showcase for Lexus' latest and greatest, with gadgets like radar cruise control that automatically keeps a set distance from the car in front, push-button starting, and even a self-parking feature. For those who can afford to have someone else drive them, the LS460 even offers an extended-wheelbase model with optional reclining rear seats (complete with electric massage) and dual-screen video system. Add chips and a Godfather DVD and it's the ultimate rolling living room!
9) Nissan 350Z
My dearly-departed Uncle Ben was one of the manliest men I know -- not in a body-builder-Marine sense, but in a women-love-me-and-men-want-to-be-me sense. He discovered Nissan Z-cars in the mid 80s, and after he bought his first one (a 300ZX) he never bought another type of car. All Zs, past and present, have a few things in common: They look cool, they go fast, and they rarely break. They have flashy exteriors and business-class interiors that always suited my Unc just fine. Besides, among car guys, there's just something about a Z that commands respect.
10) Volkswagen GTI
Thinking of all the people I know who really love to drive, I'd say the number of women is at least equal to the number of men. So what is it that gives the GTI -- one of the most fun-to-drive cars on the market for two decades running -- such a strong guy appeal? Beats me, but while women seem to be drawn to the sensible Jetta, the GTI just feels like a guy thing. The 4-door is especially appealing to men like me who have families; the two-door is the GTI for purists.
Although, there are few there I question.....

Also, found many other lists, by other people/magazines, etc. Most of the vehicles mentioned, are duplicated. Maybe not in the same order.
Try Google with, "What are the chick cars?".
Thylacine 05-22-2007, 04:22 PM GDZHHR....
but I believe those 2 cars are on the "offical" list of chick cars. Also the Mini.
Looking for that list, now.
Oh No! Not the Mini, say it ain't so.:(
I like them, but my wife also says they are a chick car.
Angel N Tinkerbell 05-22-2007, 04:40 PM I think it depends on what one does to their HHR to make it more masculine or feminine. Like mine....has tinkerbell stuff on it...not very masculine. But...our minivan...has scorpios in red and black...much more masculine.
It is all about what you do to make it look "male or female". LOL
And...like one person on the blog stated....there is something wrong if men have to rely on their car for their masculinity.

Going on 15 years of marriage here, so I can relate  . I have the fuzzy dice in mine, but to me, that says the 50's. Retro car should get a retro treatment. And yes I'd say my HHR is about the only masculine thing I have left. Sure wish I had hung on to that 1977 Trans Am SE I had when I met my wife  .

There are about (10) HHR`s in my area, only (2) are .net members (besides me).
Evidently, most people have no interest in contacting/joining a club/site.
I`ve given out fliers (approx. 15) and there has only been (1) reply.
They all receive the .net info, and my e-mail address, and I always ask if they have a computer.
Her Hot Rod 05-22-2007, 11:35 PM it's a girly car... but since my husband drives it (as it is also the family car)... it's "Ours", we tried to make it not look girly, in fact that didn't even cross our mind.... just more vintage looking. I think they are more a guy car? My husband was the one who got me interested in it in the first place... & he is already saying "when you get tired of it & are back to work... i'll take it & you can get something else"... well, I hate to break it too him.... it might be a while :D...Unless we have another Child & out grow it.
I have seen several around... I would say it's a pretty even split Male / Female... but I think you can tell some by the way they look / options what age group owns them... I haven't seen too many other HHR's here in the KC area with sunroofs... the ones I have seen are owned by people my age ...early 30's, or so.
krishaynes 05-24-2007, 08:16 AM There are two HHRs in my little corner of Ottawa. Both are male drivers. One under thirty (me!), my fellow HHR owner has got be north of 80!

Wackaloon 05-25-2007, 10:17 AM Another factor that may tend to make people classify the HHR as a "gurly" car is the treatment that Chevy gave the HHR Transformer in their online Transformer's game. Tell me that HHR Transformer don't got boobs!?!?!?
Chief79 05-25-2007, 12:13 PM After that stupid a$$ commercial with all the guys running up to the HHR with four girls in it and washing it with there shirts off, I've got nothing but crap about how its a girl car from the guys at work, They all say they like it but think it is a girls car. Thats part of the reason why ours is still unnamed, the wife wants to give it a girl name and I just want to name it something cool.
The exact oppisite is happening to me. All the guys at work love the car. They all say "the car fits me". I'm 6'2", 230 #'s. I played football in college. Not a girly-man by any means. The VW bug...now that's a car i never see a man driving. Just MHO.
Alzonie 05-25-2007, 02:48 PM ..... The VW bug...now that's a car I never see a man driving. Just MHO.

Rrailwriter 05-26-2007, 01:04 AM Don't know how you'd count us since we share one car. My hubby's going to be 67 this summer and I'll be 61 next month. Lets just say we're two oldies who love the retro look, and both of us saw some pass us up the year they first came out, and we both fell in love with it. We knew right then and there, the HHR would be our next car.........and we didn't even know what it was then.

Heritage07 05-31-2007, 05:46 AM I don't think it's a "girlie" car at all.
Several guys at work have told me they really like it, as well as several of the women.
In fact, I've gotten more compliments on my HHR than all the other vehicles I've ever owned combined, and I've owned a bunch over the years.
kdugg_fl 05-31-2007, 08:57 AM I don't think it's a girly car either. I was driving a 4-door VW Golf and really wanted to stick to a 4-door hatch when I replaced it. My Dad bought his HHR a couple months ago and after riding in it and driving, my mind was made up. I don't think he'd appreciate it if I told him it was a girly car.
Chief79 05-31-2007, 09:34 AM Any way...backto the subject. I'm 47, male. I wanted somthing that got good milage and also stood out in a crowd. I'm not the type that wants to be 1 of the millions of Civic drivers. Love the old school look, and with gas up around $3.40 a gallon i love the mpg's.

I have rheumatoid arthritis and now showing signs of osteoarthritis. I wanted something that was easier for me to get in and out of than a sedan without being a SUV or the dreaded minivan
The HHR met those goals, plus it gets good mileage and it looks cool.
SandyBeach 05-31-2007, 08:38 PM I don't think it's a matter of being a male or female car. Instead we should look at which colors are popular with the different sexes. I've seen a lot of women on here with orange HHRs. A lot of the guys have light or dark gray or black. I'm still waiting for my yellow one so I can be just plain "cool"!
desertblonde 05-31-2007, 11:31 PM Hi Guys!
50 yr. old female here (so typical huh). Never been a "car" kind of girl; been driving Jeeps, trucks and VW's for over 30 years so I like the roominess of my HHR. Just to mention...... my husband who is in his 60's thought this car was ugly at first, (especially the Golden Teal Metallic) now I can't get him out of it! He drives a Titan truck most of the time. I get lots of compliments on her and she's definately a conversation starter. I think all of us look cool in our HHR's, and no matter what our age we can appreciate Class! ;)

I think it would be safe to say that the orange is more popular with women and under 40 males, generally speaking.

cvrogershhr 06-11-2007, 04:13 AM OK, 56 Married male, wife 45, she really liked the retro look of the PT and the HHR. I don't buy Chryslers, or Fords, so when the HHR came out.....Hey only question was what color. The Nostalgia and the gas mileage, along with the room. Got out of an Astro, had to save gas somehow. My first car was a Corvair, so maybe I'm regressing back to the gas mileage cars, I drive the HHR, she smokes, so I keep her from doing that in this one, keeps the leather smell if you don't smoke in them. I have to say, she likes the look of it so it's sort of a tie, we both like the style(retro) look of this car, which allowed me to make the purchase. She drives an Impala. I have hauled a lot of stuff in this thing since I've bought it, and really have to say this a work horse of a vehicle, so I have to go with the more utilitarian status of the HHR.
It's been called a hearst, a beach buggy(woody) and a van. It does seem women like the looks of it, and my 12 year old boy says the kids at school comment on the HHR all the time. He likes to go anywhere in it to be seen. Remember how it was cool to be seen in a Vette? I like it.:one:

Looks like I have everyone beat. I am 16 and this is my first car fully loaded. In order to get it I had to maintain a solid 4.0 in my GPA. I love this car even though my friends don't...but they don't know what they are missing.

Nope we have one that was 14 when his parents gave him his HHR, he is now 15 and can not legally drive it still.
