View Full Version : 2009 C.P. III Meet?!?
HillsdaleHHR 07-14-2008, 05:41 PM Already have people pm'ing me about the 3rd Annual HHR Cedar Point Meet so let the discussion begin.
One thought we had for next year was doing 1 day where we Island hopped. The have a ferry that takes you to a couple of the islands around the Cedar Point area including Kelleys Island and Put In Bay.
For those of you that received the Lake Erie Shores and Islands Guide in your Goody Bag you can get some ideas from there as to what things you might like to see/do next year :thumb:
Dates?!? This years date seemed to be pretty good to me. Thoughts? Number of Days for event?
Jeff® 07-15-2008, 06:07 AM OMG! The ferry from Hell!
The small one to Kelly's Island that is. Rode that thing years ago, I thought I was going to die.
a76marine 07-15-2008, 06:59 AM The Ferry to Put In Bay is the one thing the gf and I wanted to do this time and missed out on.
Rolyat1955 07-15-2008, 07:04 AM We like the Island hopping idea alot. I also think we should direct more time to karting, since that was a huge hit too! Hmmmm.....maybe a competition? This was a great date to have it too, plus if you stick with the same weekend, most can really start their planning then. I know you can put Bob and me down as for sure's!!!
Digital_Rapture 07-15-2008, 09:40 AM Yes! the same date would be nice n convenient. We do vacation pics @ my job every January, plus it goes by seniority. So the sooner I know the sooner I can try 2 put something down on paper.
a76marine 07-15-2008, 10:01 PM Not to mention the Friday after the 4th of July was dead in the park and made for riding the coasters a breeze.
Kennys2009HHR 07-15-2008, 10:25 PM  Already?!?. Hope I can make this event, no promises though I know some of you probably wanted to meet me but I have had some financial issues lately (spelling?)
Kennys2009HHR (aka ItsChaBoyKenny)- Maybe; Kenny, Ocala, Florida
twistrman 07-15-2008, 11:16 PM Not to mention the Friday after the 4th of July was dead in the park and made for riding the coasters a breeze.
Lucky, of all the times i've been to cedar point, over 10 times now, i've never had a day like that. I've had the occasional quick line but then i've also done the 3 hour wait for millennium when it first opened...
On a side note, just throwing an idea out there. Would it be too hard to do 2 cedar point meets in one year? One reason being i wasn't able to go this time, i had just gotten the hhr, and my parents were here that weekend, but the other reason being it looked like a heck of a time.
I know they take a ton of planning, but wanted to ask. I have yet to ever go down for one, but i hear the halloweekends in the end of september and october are supposed to be a blast. The park is open different hours, does a whole halloween theme and often has people dressed up in costume etc. Hillsdale's new orange SS and Punkinhead would fit right in there...
So yeah, i know it's probably not feasible, but wanted to ask anyways.

Start a thread and see what happens. Unfortunately, it looks like I wouldn't be able to attend. Got back to work yesterday to find out that I no longer have a job  We were all temp to hire and one of the departments just lost their contract so they are taking over our jobs :(
HillsdaleHHR 07-16-2008, 07:07 AM Not to mention the Friday after the 4th of July was dead in the park and made for riding the coasters a breeze.
I agree. Lets call C.P. III for July 9th - 12th, 2009. May switch it up a bit but that is a Thursday through Sunday. Take Thursday for C.P., Friday for the actual meet, Saturday to Island Hop, and Sunday to chill and get ready to head home.
ChritonHHR 07-16-2008, 07:15 AM We'll try to make the events a little later in the day.:p:
chadpuska 07-16-2008, 09:13 AM Yea none of this 7am stuff.
jeffs396 07-16-2008, 11:22 AM Got back to work yesterday to find out that I no longer have a job  We were all temp to hire and one of the departments just lost their contract so they are taking over our jobs :(
Sorry to hear, Dayton...maybe an opportunity to get into event planning as a career! You're awesome at putting events together! For CP3, we need some sort of cruise in there, the ten HHR caravan to RRHOF was the best part I think! :thumb:
MrVette 07-16-2008, 12:05 PM Yea none of this 7am stuff.
I was under the impression that you liked getting up early. LOL
HillsdaleHHR 07-21-2008, 07:42 PM Would there be any interest in visiting Summit Motorsports Park in Norwalk? I've talked with a lady there but they haven't finalized the event schedule for next year to know what will be going on that week but said we would be more than welcome to come on down and visit the facility. It would make for a good HHR Cruise :D
jeffs396 07-21-2008, 08:46 PM Dayton, the last time I was there was in 2000 for the Super Chevy show. Don't know how much the complex has changed since then, but if it hasn't, there wouldn't be anything to do there if no events are taking place. Probably drag racing on fridays/saturdays during the summer, don't know if it's every weekend though? Now if our G2G was on the same weekend as the Super Chevy show...then we'd have something! :thumb:
HillsdaleHHR 07-21-2008, 08:52 PM This year the Super Chevy Show falls on July 25th - 27th. We could always push our event back 2 weeks if it falls the same way next year?!?
jeffs396 07-21-2008, 08:59 PM I've been to four Super Chevy shows over the years...always a great event! They would probably make a spot in the show car field for us too, not sure but I think there are registration fees for show cars, we could always have ours in the parking areas! :D
chadpuska 07-22-2008, 12:27 AM I want a new Camaro....... so bad LOL sorry just had to get that out.
masterchief1112 07-28-2008, 12:06 PM just thinkin about norwalk, we should get some bracket racing going.!!!
masterchief1112 07-28-2008, 12:07 PM oh and lodging at kalahari would be frickin awesome.
HillsdaleHHR 07-30-2008, 02:36 PM Chris and I are handing over planning of C.P. III to Jeff (jeffs396). He was very helpful to the event this year  and this will allow us to partake in some other things for 2009. If you are interested in helping with planning C.P. III be sure to send him a pm :thumb:
chadpuska 07-30-2008, 03:04 PM oh man you guys do a really good job.
jeffs396 07-30-2008, 05:22 PM Yep, I've got some really big shoes to fill...These two are the best planners! :one: Any ideas, suggestions, dates that work/don't work for everyone, please post or send me a PM. Would like to try & coordinate our event along with a large car/truck event (like Super Chevy), but the Norwalk event will probably be in july...no schedule yet...alot of us want to attend the nationals in Branson next july, so a different month may work better for everyone. Thoughts?
twistrman 07-30-2008, 10:14 PM i've had good luck with CP early on in the season before the majority of kids gets out of school and in the fall when they go back. Both times it's a little cooler outside which makes it really nice.
Although i know that causes problems with pretty much anyone who has kids at school, but young guys like me with no kids in the "plans" for the next few years, it works out great.
HillsdaleHHR 07-30-2008, 10:16 PM A Fall Meet would be a neat idea. No kid worries here either :D
Rolyat1955 07-30-2008, 10:20 PM I like the idea of a fall meet too! And Jeff, you will do a fantastic job! And Jeff, it would be great to see you (and everyone else too) in Branson next year for Nationals! Not that I'd be any help from here, but let me know if there's anything I can do to give you a hand!
twistrman 07-30-2008, 10:33 PM you're always hot on my trail hillsdale...
Yeah i proposed the late fall meet earlier, but haven't had the time to think more about it yet. Been really busy with work and gone almost every weekend.
a76marine 07-31-2008, 07:31 AM I'll go to Cedar Point anytime... you all probably know that. ;)
Only problem with an early or late date is that the park isn't open as late... for those of us that come for the roller coasters that's only a small issue anyways.
If you need any help that can be done from Chicagoland, let me know!
Any ideas, suggestions,....... Would like to try & coordinate our event along with a large car/truck event (like Super Chevy) Thoughts?
I know I'll probably not be able to make it, but.......
Although not a "large" event, how about checking out what the local show scene is. Driving through town, on the way back to the park from the winery, there was a small show of some classics just starting up. Unfortunatley the rain drove them off before many of them arrived.
Manage to get a few pics of the local flavor.........

jeffs396 08-04-2008, 10:21 PM To all who have attended one or both of the Cedar Point events...do we keep the "Cedar Point" in CP3, or leave it out of the plan for 2009??? I know there is plenty to do in Sandusky besides the park itself, the event could still be there even though the amusement park isn't included in the plan. Doesn't matter to me, just trying to get an idea of what people want.
My friend Roy(an08HHR) suggested maybe working Mid-Ohio into the weekend: http://www.midohio.com/...anyone interested in something like that? Sounds like a cool idea to me! There was an Ecotec meet there in June: http://chevyhhr.net/forums/showthread.php?t=15583 that a few members went to, that might be a good time. We need ideas to make this an event worthy of this past one!
PS: Tom(a76marine)...I know Cedar Point has a special meaning to you ;), please disregard the first paragraph!
chadpuska 08-04-2008, 11:51 PM i still like going to cedar point, we went to mid ohio and that was really fun also.
HillsdaleHHR 08-05-2008, 12:08 AM Again, I think a fall meet would be pretty cool. Cedar Point is still open but only on weekends and has shorter hours. I don't think lines would be very long for rides either. Doesn't matter to me if Cedar Point stays for C.P. III but if not I think we might need a name change
jeffs396 10-19-2008, 05:17 PM What does everyone think about a fall Cedar Point meet in 2009??? They have alot going on there in Sept. & October, here's a link: http://www.halloweekends.com/

hmmm not feeling it really, with Ohio you never know when the snow will be here and by then i will have my winter gear on my car. Plus being cold at a car show isn't really fun, "well to me", even though this year it hasn't really been too cold but again it Ohio. I'm just a summer guy where the nights feel wonderful, you can hangout outside go, Go-Kart racing and not freeze your butt off.
Rcflyboy 10-28-2008, 10:11 PM I really like the Mid-Ohio idea myself. It would be fun to tie it into some kind of car event. It is a great place to gather and have a cook out and car show.
We could even do CP one day and Mid-Ohio another. They are not that far apart.
jeffs396 10-31-2008, 01:51 AM I'm going to call Mid-Ohio park & see what renting the park for a day would cost  ...probably out of reach, but you never know! Other ideas I have are a rally, GM plant tour (the lordstown tour was great!) http://chevyhhr.net/forums/showthread.php?t=18266
or even the Goodguys event in Columbus...lets hear your thoughts everyone!
Keep in mind too that the nationals in Branson are July 23-26, 2009. Some of us will be attending that event also, so July may not be the best month for CP3???
Rcflyboy 11-03-2008, 04:04 PM I have been to the GOODGUYS event here in Columbus a couple of times. There are well over a thousand cars show up for it and a ton of venders.
a76marine 11-03-2008, 08:24 PM I too love the warm summer nights and Cedar Point... truth is I'd go anytime of the year though!
twistrman 11-03-2008, 11:04 PM if i were to be going Cedar Point would have to be there
jeffs396 11-04-2008, 08:36 AM Here's the response I got from Mid-Ohio...now if we could just get 100 members to commit, we'd have the complex for $95 each for the day! ;)
Hi Jeff,
Thank you for your e-mail at www.midohio.com
In regards to a potential event at Mid-Ohio in 2009 we would certainly love to have your car club participate in a rental at our facility. When you can please provide the type of car club you are, the approx. number of participants you would have and the dates you have in mind. I have many weekday events left in June, July and August but they do typically fill up fast starting the first of the year. The price for the rental is $9500 per day and requires a $3000 deposit to hold the date. We provide corner workers, ambulance, wrecker, firemen, and a security guard as part of the rental feel. The car club provides the insurance which will all be outlined in a contract if you decide to rent our facility.
Again, please provide the above information when you can and I look forward to possibly getting to work with you in the future. Should you have additional questions or need clarification please do not hesitate to call or e-mail me.
Thanks again!

chadpuska 11-04-2008, 08:46 AM Wow that wold be sweet i bet i could convince the Cobalt guys to do this.
jeffs396 11-04-2008, 05:26 PM 2009 Super Chevy show schedule has finally been announced...june 12-14 at Norwalk raceway...also a possibility!:thumb:
08redhhrss 11-04-2008, 05:37 PM I was at goofy golf in Sandusky this summer when you guys were there....I had an SS at the time, but it wasn't an HHR. It was a Trailblazer. It was cool seeing all the HHR's. I think the Mid-Ohio thing would be cool, i'm new to the forum but it might be tough to get 95 HHR guys to sign up. Maybe if we included another group it could be done. Not sure how many members are performance oriented. I could be wrong though! Keep us updated, I know there are a lot of good ideas out there. I'm 20 minutes from Cedar point, so anything close i'll be all for it!!!

Yeah, can you imagine an all HHR class in the show! I bet they haven't seen a whole lot of that!
jeffs396 11-04-2008, 06:00 PM I hear ya...I'm going to contact the Super Chevy staff to see if we can have our own class...we'll see...
08redhhrss 11-04-2008, 06:25 PM about how many ppl did you have this summer, and what was everything you that you did?
jeffs396 11-05-2008, 12:57 AM Here's the details:
http://chevyhhr.net/forums/showthread.php?t=16586
jeffs396 11-25-2008, 02:09 PM Here is the participant info for the Super Chevy show...
http://www.superchevyshow.com/ticketinfo.shtml
The separate link for the Norwalk event isn't working yet...I've been trying to contact them by email...no response...I guess I'll call!
http://www.superchevyshow.com/2009schedule.html
How would this weekend work for everyone???
jeffs396 11-26-2008, 09:30 PM I talked to the Super Chevy staff today...for car clubs, they donate $5 for each vehicle in the club...we have an HHR club, right? ;) We would be in the open class, all parked together!
Car Show Car and Driver - $45.00
(Judged-Chevy bodied or powered only)
Show n' Shine and Driver- $35.00
(Non-judged, open to all GM powered or bodied vehicles)
These ticket prices are for the entire weekend, which I doubt we would want to stay for three! days. So, that would leave official judging out, but we can judge our own paticipants as we usually do. Spend one day there, cruise on to our next destination...thoughts?
chadpuska 11-26-2008, 10:02 PM Sounds pretty cool to me, so are we going to be staying in 1 city? or bouncing all over the place?
jeffs396 11-26-2008, 10:25 PM Sounds pretty cool to me, so are we going to be staying in 1 city? or bouncing all over the place?
I myself think it would be nice to do some things in Sandusky one or two days, the Super Chevy show another day (Norwalk & Sandusky are very close), would really like to rent the Mid-Ohio racepark for a day, but would take alot more people (like the cobalt folks) to make that happen! Flogging our HHRs or some RACING carts around the track would AWESOME! :thumb:
chadpuska 11-26-2008, 10:56 PM You want me to start a thread on the Cobalt forum?
jeffs396 11-26-2008, 11:03 PM You want me to start a thread on the Cobalt forum?
Yea Chad, see if there is an interest. You could quote post #41. The Cobalt members may have their G2G at mid-ohio if there is another event there like the one you attended this past summer...don't know. Thanks!
LTSport08 12-02-2008, 04:58 AM I would definately be into attending the Super Chevy Show My wife's family goes every year
jeffs396 12-02-2008, 08:16 AM :welcome: John! Place a post in our new introductions forum so everyone can see. Hope to see you at CP3...we can caravan there...I'm just north of you about 45 minutes! Nice new ride! :thumb:

jeffs396 12-29-2008, 02:19 AM what about CP, super chevy, and islands based in sandusky?
Hey Kevin, still gathering info & ideas from anyone interested, things will have to be decided on soon so we can get all of this planned for the vacation season! :thumb:
masterchief1112 12-29-2008, 10:01 AM thats great if you need any help as before i would be happy to help. 2 heads are usually better than one. Im planning on taking a few days off for this but hopefully it does not get planned too far into the fall it would be cold and id be in school again. damn college. but yeah i am willing to help with ne thing you need.
HillsdaleHHR 12-29-2008, 10:12 AM I'm just ready to see more of this:
http://www.chevyhhr.net/gallery/files/1/7/7/8/IMG_12962.JPG
Hopefully more :thumb: :thumb: As soon as a date is determined I'll have Chris put in for vacation.

ChritonHHR 12-29-2008, 02:47 PM Hopefully more :thumb: :thumb: As soon as a date is determined I'll have Chris put in for vacation.
Cross your fingers that I can get off whatever date is chosen.
Digital_Rapture 12-29-2008, 07:18 PM My girl and I are still definitly interested  ... just need a date and then see if I can get that weekend off. Still have one more week of vacation to schedule.
jeffs396 12-29-2008, 07:26 PM If the weekend of June 12-14 works for everyone interested, I'll start planning with that date set in stone...Norwalk Super Chevy show is that weekend & I think our HHRs would be a great addition to their event...they have finally put up a link for it here: http://www.superchevyshow.com/events/norwalk.html

That weekend could quite possibly work for me.
HillsdaleHHR 12-29-2008, 08:05 PM If the weekend of June 12-14 works for everyone interested, I'll start planning with that date set in stone
Should work for us. Just give us a run down on what the itinerary will be and cost of events :thumb:
a76marine 12-29-2008, 08:16 PM I should be able to make any weekend work with enough notice. Just have a honeymoon in August to work around. :)
Rcflyboy 12-29-2008, 08:33 PM I think I could do that weekend. Not sure about getting Friday off.
Would like to see what the itinerary will be to see how it all works out.
jeffs396 01-01-2009, 11:37 AM Any interest still in island hopping while we're in Sandusky??? It can be pricey when you add up the ferry fees, etc. Would be cool, just don't know how many would like to. Here's some info:
http://www.ci.sandusky.oh.us/local-attractions/cruises-ferries.htm
I'm thinking meeting on friday in Norwalk for the Super Chevy show, then cruise to Sandusky friday nite. Up early saturday morning for a day at the park, sunday could be for island hopping or just relaxing at shoreline park like last year. Thoughts???
HillsdaleHHR 01-01-2009, 11:40 AM Any interest still in island hopping while we're in Sandusky???

We are open to whatever :thumb: Chris and I will probably skip out on the Cedar Point part this year. Can't justify spending $80 when the last 2 times we were there we left mid-day  That will give us more time to explore Sandusky or visit with members that don't like Amusement Parks :thumb:
The only negative to Island hopping on Sunday is for the members that may come long distance and getting home for Monday.
Rcflyboy 01-01-2009, 12:09 PM I would much rather see CP on Friday and Super Chevy on Saturday.
For those of us who have a hard time getting off of work on Friday. To me the Super Chevy is the center piece and where we will most likely have our car show and awards. Remember how many of us could only do Saturday last year. That's the day car turn out was the best. Don't we want that, the best possible turn out for the best part of the weekend.
As Dayton pointed out not everyone wants to do the C.P. part. To me the whole point is to get together with our cars, appreciate each others ride and see each other in person. If I or some others can't attend Friday then what's the point of attending. We can't do any of that at the park as everyone will most likely go there own separate ways to ride what they want to. Another point is C.P. is much less crowded on Fridays.
Just my take Jeff.
ChevyGrlAlways 01-01-2009, 02:02 PM im ready for the long ride to cedar pt
a76marine 01-01-2009, 04:50 PM I'm all about the park but we'll do what we can to be there for everything. :)
jeffs396 01-02-2009, 12:08 AM I'm with you Mike & Dayton...I don't even need to visit the amusement park at all...been there once, that's enough until the kids are older & we can take them! I myself could spend all three days at the Super Chevy show! I'm all about the cars, don't need all of the other "fluff". Just trying to come up with a plan that's agreeable to most. Norwalk & Sandusky are very close, some may want to visit the Super Chevy show while others are in Sandusky, some may want to island hop while some are at the park, or any other combination you could think of! This is what we need, members speaking up to get an idea of what they want to do! :thumb:
