I just wanted to share what I think is a great deal for winter steelies and tires for our HHR SS's (looks wierd when you pluralize it, lol)

I made this purchase earlier in the week.

215/55QR-16 Bridgestone Blizzak REVO 1 - $66 each on closeout (they get good reviews!)

16x6.5 5-110 et42 cb65 steelies - $41 each (when you search for them as a winter option for the SS)

$95 for shipping with free mounting and balancing.

so that's $523.96 all together.

And then I'm getting some solid disc wheels covers for 'em that will run around $80.

BfloGeno, Did you talk to anyone at Tire Rack about fitting these 16" wheels on an SS? It looks like you found the other post about a few us trying to figure out if 16's will fit on an SS. When do you expect to receive these winter wheels and tires? Thanks, G.B.

I ordered a set also... I should see mine Thursday or Friday and will report back. They seem to think that they'll fit, but I'm still not 100% convinced.

Great, thanks rearview. I hope they fit so you don't have to go through the hassle to return them. I would like to get a set as well if I know they will fit. Thanks, G.B.

Got the tracking numbers 90 minutes after I ordered them, they should be here tomorrow. We'll find out.

Cool, Tirerack is a great place to buy wheels and tires. I bought some Dunlop Graspic snow tires for a VW Jetta a few years ago from Tirerack and used their installer deal. It worked out great. I was really happy. I hope your new winter shoes work out. G.B.

if they don't fit for someone, and they want to talk about getting rid of them at a discount (if returning them doesn't work out, or usually shipping something to you costs a lot less then shipping something back to somewhere...) Let me know.

I have a 2LT and have been bouncing the winter rims and wheels idea around a bit.

I'm 99% sure they will fit for two reasons -

1. I had a GM mechanic tell me that the stock 16" steelies will fit the SS (and these steelies I got from tire rack are identical to stock)

2. TireRack sold me these specifically as a fit for the HHR SS.

we wont really know until November 1st when i have them installed (usually a safe date barring another freak October snow storm in Buffalo, lol)

where did you find the 16" steelies? Are there things different between the regular hhr wheels and the ss wheels, bolt pattern or something like that. I was on there looking last night and it said it could only find 15" and 17" steelies?

That's great. Tirerack is usually spot on. Thanks....

Review, I had another thought. Are you going without the TPS sensors on these winter wheels? Is that Tirerack doesnt carry the right TPS for the HHR or is it that the TSP with not fit on their steel wheels? Do you know? Thanks, G.B.

I went without the TPMS sensors.... I think they don't fit the steel wheels, but I'm not 100% sure on that. I'm not that worried about it.

I would like to go without them as well. I will have to look to see if the TPMS has its own fuse. I think there will be an idiot light on the dash if we run without them. If the TPMS does not have its own fuse, then maybe I will use a small piece of electrical tape would cover the light. I am committed now! I just bought a set of used 2006' HHR steel wheels and factory hub caps for $144 shipped off of eBay. I now need to make sure I can still get the Bridgestone Blizzak tires that are on sale. G.B.

There's enough room in the back you could haul around your summer tires to keep the light off:D

PS... Like my floor jack?

the snow looks smaller. Are they as tall as the stock ones?

rearview

They're a LITTLE smaller, not by a whole lot. 25.4" vs 25.9". It looks like a lot because the other one is a bit closer in the pic, plus it's skewed. Speedo will be off by something like 2%.... no biggie.

Thats what you need, for the white stuff. More weight on a small contact surface.

How does the clearance look? I'm thinking of going with the 225-60-16. It's a shade bigger as opposed to a shade smaller, but is still safe on a 6.5" wheel.

Tons of clearance for the tires. Could easily got a size ot two larger for sure. The main concern for everybody was the wheels clearing the calipers, but there's about .200" or so.

Awesome! thanks for the final confirmation rearview!

I got mine yesterday and the tread looks great, these are going to be great in the winter!

If you havent jumped on this deal yet, get cracking.

I highly doubt you can find a sweeter deal than this for the SS!

i was wondering how you're seeing 17" steelies for the hhr. I have a 2lt and chose it in their options and it pull sup 16" steelies, so then i chose the SS and they're not showing any steelies.

From the way people are hopping on the tires i wanted to look into it more, i'd love to stay with 17" rims, but if i have to go down to 16, it'll be fine, but i'm just not seeing 17's

I look back now it shows none available. I would try calling them an asking. They maybe out of stock now. You will have to pay a lot more for the 17 Blissaks. Last fall I got 17 close out price of $84 a tire for my sisters HHR.

It's still there, all available. Select HHR SS, tire and wheel package, then up in upper right corner, there is a pull down box for "other products for this vehicle" Pull down to "winter and go from there.... and the special is for 16" steeleis and tires, not 17's.

i see all of that listed for the SS, but when i search for it on a LT, this is the message it pops up

"Original Equipment Wheel Diameter: 16"
Recommended Tires are not available in this diameter for this vehicle."

it gives me choices for 15" and 17", but nothing for 16, but it all shows up for the SS, are they different? I don't know a lot about tires and wheels... I thought they were the same though.

The 16's should fit on yours. The tires are almost the exact same height (only off by .1"... that's nothing), and the wheels should also be fine. The 17" combo will get pricey real quick, and I don't know if the 15's will be ok. I have no idea why they don't show for the 16'd for the LT.

maybe TR is saving that search result option for SS owners.

I just ordered a set with 225-60-16 tires. This will be the first time I've ever used dedicated snow tires on a FWD car. I hear the Blizzaks are very good. I grew up in the RWD / bias ply era when snow tires were mandatory. FWD and all season radials mostly eliminated that need, but you can never have too much traction.

In my location, I get more nervous with larger wheels in winter time. There are frequently "surprise" chuckholes that are concealed by snow or standing water. The extra sidewall gives a greater safety margin.
