Understand I'm not talking about these drag slicks for an HHR, but other muscle cars. I found a place where I can get used NASCAR slicks for $20 a pop, so I began to wonder if after finding a suitable rim would these tires make good drag slicks? I know very little about their compound make up or how many passes would be possible.

I would think that with these being slicks they should hook up well on a good burnout, and for only $20 a helluva lot cheaper than Mickey Thompson's!

I guess it would come down to where they were run and how much life they had left in them.

Of course slicks should work no matter if they were NHRA or Nascar but I'd be weary that the teams took them off their car for a reason so might not have much left in them.

May have a small problem with uneven wear as well since they were most likely run on a banked oval and not on a level dragway.

What size are they?

They probably wont have a soft side wall like a real drag tire, but it sounds like cheap sticky fun to me.

Don't do it. Drag tires and circle track have completely different compounds. Drag slicks are soft and gummy and circle track tires are very hard. One is designed to go 500 miles the other will go, maybe five miles. Also, if you are looking at NASCAR takeoffs, forget about it, when they come off they are used up! Plus, in the scheme of things, a NASCAR tire is not really that big, they are kind of smallish, in my opinion.

If you want a good street/strip slick just pay the money for a good DOT approved drag radial. They look best under most any muscle car.

NO! When I was in the tire biz, we received an 18 wheeler load of used Reed Sorenson tires to display in our showrooms. I let my guys talk me into mounting a couple on the rear of my Chevelle just to see if I could smoke em. At first they were tuff to spin but turned into glass after I got em heated up.
