txsman2930 04-27-2006, 05:15 PM Well, it happened. I got my first speeding ticket in my HHR. lol..Actually my first ticket in about 8 years. Got caught going 50 in a 30. D'OH! Happened on my street. NEEEEEVER cops on my street....except today. I was less than a 1/4 of a block from my home. Comedy Defensive Driving Time! On the bright side, I'll get two free tickets to any standup comedy show at the comedy club.
SIHHR 04-27-2006, 06:19 PM Ouch that sux. Did they get you with the radar gun? How were you towards the officer? I've talked myself out of a ticket going 95 in a 65 zone. The officer lowered my speed to going 69 in a 65. So it saved me a few hundered.
JESSE 04-27-2006, 08:22 PM Its the end of the month, quota time. Too bad about the ticket, those always suck. :(
captain howdy 04-27-2006, 09:12 PM Comedy Defensive Driving? You Texans seem to have some odd things and laws in your state. At least from a North Easterners perspective.
txsman2930 04-27-2006, 11:11 PM Oh yeah. Sit back, relax for 6 hours and laugh your butt off. Then tada! Ticket gone. lol

Yup. They got me on a radar gun. Doggone motorcycle cop. I was nice to the guy. I probably would've been able to talk myself out of the ticket if I wasn't so far over the speed limit.
ng8650 04-27-2006, 11:28 PM Yup that def. sux. I don't know about Tex but Cali, after fines, traffic school, fees...your talkin $400-500  If you want it off your record...

we have defensive driving- 1 a year
deferred adjudication- pay the cost of the ticket, no tickets for 45 to 90 days depending on area. take it back notarized and then ticket all gone
cowboybornlate 04-27-2006, 11:57 PM Gotta love that Texas justice system huh? I've had defensive driving, deferred adjudication and several I've talked my way out of or had the judge dismiss... I've been stopped three times in my HHR so far and no tickets *knocks on wood*....

captain howdy 04-28-2006, 07:02 AM Now I want to move to Texas. :( You get a ticket and the punishment is they force you to laugh.

FALSE SENSE OF SECURITY!!
Radar detectors aren't much help here in the Miami area. FHP likes to use heicopters/overpasses, using stopwatches by timing vehicles as they cross certain road markers. I know from first hand on this. Years ago, I got stopped for doing 85 in a 55.:red: Trooper seemed to come from nowhere. When handing me the citation, he looked and seen the radar detector and told me that the reason it didn't alert me was cause he was on the overpass with a stopwatch.:(
TomsHHR 07-09-2006, 08:49 AM Some cops like to leave their gun off and when they pull the trigger.... They got ya that fast!! You can only hope you catch it way before you get there.. Remember the false beeps you seem to hear, Thats another person getting caught and then they shut off the detector right away to hide again.
Nebraska State Patrol used Vascar "timing system" a while back and I laughed when radar detectors came out that could "detect" that, How do they detect a stopwatch "Vascar!".
cj krause 07-09-2006, 09:42 AM Okrahoma, New Mexico and several others use dem aereoplanes and time ya with stripes on da roads.
der just aint no winning sometimes, dag nabbit.
dat is why i just drive 5 to 6 mph over and use dat cruise thingy w buttons on da steering wheel
bigbear2k 07-09-2006, 09:43 AM I am glad that North West Arkansas is not up with the times. If we ever get helicopter cops I will have to slow down. Thanks for the advice JX3
TX-HHR 07-09-2006, 09:56 AM Oh yeah. Sit back, relax for 6 hours and laugh your butt off. Then tada! Ticket gone. lol
Last time I went to one of those we took our tests in crayon.

Now that would have been more fun.
SindyDix 07-09-2006, 10:32 AM I have found the most effective way of getting out of a ticket is not to do anything that would warrant recieveing one in the first place.
Drive safe! However, if you gat caught driving not so safely , I found this thread of a message board very informative.
You have a right to challenge the calibration of a radar gun.

captain howdy 07-09-2006, 11:53 AM Yup there is no way to beat VASCAR. You guys also left out instant-on and laser, radar detectors are practicaly useless against either. Don't forget if your driving though Virgina, Washington DC, or Canada to remove your radar detector from sight and don't use it because they are illegal and the police use VG-2 and Spectre to catch you using it. I've only had problems in Canada but the police officer was nice and made me remove the detector without giving me a ticket. There is also the most used method of detecting speeding, pacing your car so they don't ever have to use radar or laser. I used to swear by a radar detector but over the years I've realized that they are pretty useless and have gotten speeding tickets even while using a top of the line detector. Your eyes are a better detection device than any radar detector.
cj krause 07-09-2006, 12:21 PM alot of patrols in those states where they are illegal will follow you pretty far behind,,, throw on the radar gun and see up ahead who hit their brakes. i used to just let go of the throttle or pedal and slow down to less than 5 above.
it is very rare that patrols will ticket you for less than 5 above the speed limit so just relax and enjoy the drive and only drive fast where there are no patrol officers.

Snoopy 07-09-2006, 04:45 PM From experience.....
A knowledgable, experienced and well trained officer who sets up properly and selects his location wisely will win every time.....even against the best attorneys and radar detectors (my score 215W-0L). However currently, very few officers are trained thoroughly and properly.
"You cross the line....you pay the fine".

The last time I got a speeding ticket was the ONE WEEK I owned a radar detector!!
 :cussing: :censored:
They got me by pacing me. The next day, it went back to where I bought it and I haven't had a ticket since, 15+ years later!
If you drive smart and safe you may never get a ticket. Half the battle is being familiar with where they like to set up. Plus I've been lucky; did 20+ over the limit to-and-back from Bristol and the only officer we saw already had someone pulled over.

x-ray1950 07-09-2006, 05:47 PM If they want to bust you they will, mention in court you have a radar detector
and that will blow your case,Its happned to me when I was young and foolish..
Perhaps a Romulian cloaking device from Star Trek might work.....

What ?????????
cowboybornlate 07-10-2006, 12:30 AM I drive a LOT... 92 miles one way to the office and then some... I have a decent radar detector, but I don't normally depend on it on the highway, 90% of my daily commute. Where mine seems to save me is during city driving. Those Plano, TX cops are brutal and sneaky and luckily my detector saves me from them on a regular basis. I've pretty much got the State Troopers pretty much down on where they like to hang out. Even still when I first started making my commute I got pulled over a few times and my PI license saved me....

Here in S. Fl., the Highway Patrol has started using unmarked Mercury Muraders for that very reason. These Mercs don't look like your typical unmarked cruisers. They have upgraded rims (chrome) and no exterior antennae to give them away.
Airborne_Beachbum 08-27-2006, 10:16 PM Today I was driving back from Atlanta airport to Ft. Gordon when I got pulled over for the 3rd time since having my HHR. But, this time the GA State Patrol was all abour giving me a ticket. He had set up on an overpass bridge with a clear view down I-20. He clocked me at 91 in a 70. Tomorrow I have to call and find out how much this ticket is going to cost, I just know that this will be a painful call to make.

tcstoy 05-30-2007, 01:14 PM Finally got an HHR. Used 2006 1LT with 20,000 mi. LOVE IT. Can't believe I waited so long. It's Majestic Amethyst. Goes well since I back the KSU Wildcats. My wife asked when I was going to start sleeping in it 'cause I tinker with it so much. Asked her to get me a pillow.

Welcome to the chevyhhr.net forum. You'll enjoy the discussions.
But, I think you meant to post your purchase of an HHR to a different thread. This one is about getting traffic tickets.
