Picked up my SS from Hahn Racecraft yesterday with some new parts installed. The car ran great on the 300 mile trip home and seems to have more bottom end. I had four people in the car and they were amazed at the power the car has on the highway. Its great to never have to down shift to pass. I took it out this morning for some hard runs and it pulls really hard. I done some dead stop runs thru the gears and it never got traction untill half way thru 2nd gear, and it will still spin when you hit third. It sure feels like the BIG intercooler is working. Bill called me from the drag strip-doing some testing with his Cobalt- and said he would chime in later with some more info on the new parts, and pictures.

IC piping and a CAI Im sure have priority over an exhaust system! Do know if an exhaust system is in the works or is Bill going to feed us to Magnaflow for the little stuff??

Piping on mine is silver. The intercooler is the same core as the one in the GXP with different end tanks. It is 4" thick and 8" high and should handle up to 700hp.

Where you there for the install of these trinkets? Did the front fascia have to come off to do the new IC? Or was it slipped in from underneath?

why hasn't anyone tried to insulate the pipes yet?? These pipes hug the eng and who knows how much heat is transfered .... If they are metal then maybe a trip for some jet hot coatings would help.... been considering this with the plastic pipes ( insulate ) to see if theres any change....but..might not be enuf to notice... anybody?

if you jet hot coat or any other coating or pain you will hold in heat.
This is one reason why plastic...not really plastic...gm used is because it doesn't get as hot as aluminum and disapates heat quicker. Why do you think all intake manifolds are made of the same material.

I'm refering to after the intercooler..... but..wrapping before the cooler maintains velocity..as the air cools it slows down...now this is mainly for those who want every last bit of power from their system..its not new..check out any race setup, they are all wrapped for efficiency

No, still running stock. I added the Magnaflow on my GXP and it has the BSR tune and Hahn intercooler and there were no problems and it runs strong.

I think I will have to wait till after the baby comes before I get the programmer and other quick mods. If you can get 350FWHP out of it it will be sold on me.

And programmer and intercooler, and pipes.

So you're looking to see 50hp out of pipes (based on 300hp with the tune)? Fat chance. If you see ANY overall horsepower increase, I'd be surprised. The main value in replacing the plastic pipes with hard pipes is the reduction of lag induced by flexing plastic pipes. When you put 22# of boost on the plastic pipe, it must first expand from the incoming pressurized air volume before passing that compressed volume on to the motor. The metal pipes don't have to expand first... they just pass on the compressed air volume. The motor will still only process a specific amount of air at a time, and that doesn't change with metal pipes... hence no peak horsepower gain.

Oh, and a larger capacity intercooler is going to put that lag back in (Note: I'm all for efficient intercoolers, and will almost certainly buy one when Bill makes them available, but they're not a panacea.) They, like ALL OTHER THINGS in this world, are a trade-off between x and y.

Do I really want to void my warranty when I already have a 10 second car and end up messing the HHR up by modding it.

I think doing thing to it that don't void my warranty will be the best thing. I also don't trust these trannys yet knowing what I've seen on here so far. I've had bad luck with transmissions. LOL If GM offers a Stage 2 kit that makes 50 more hp that might be the way to go to keep warranty. Ugh so much to think about :))

I agree, I am just trying the pipe upgrade first, then the intercooler. Just so I can see the effect incrementally.

Quick update -- I've been working 12+ hrs. a day and have been driving my GXP so the SS has been in the garage since my return from HRC. I got the SS out wed. and wanted to see how it runs, compared to the GXP which has about the same upgrades except the GXP is an automatic. After some very hard driving I would say the SS is quicker, but would need to take both of them to the track to find out. The SS with the 5-speed is a lot more fun to drive. I have noticed no turbo lag at all with the piping and intercooler. It seemes to have a lot more when the turbo goes full boost. I think it is a lot smoother and it will spin real bad in 1st and also in 2nd and it can be a real hand full in 3rd with all the tq. and 4th pulls very hard as well. It is amazing how fast you get to 100. I think the next big improvement will be the BOV that Bill is working on. I don't know how much the piping helps but I don't have to worry about the plastic tubing coming apart at 25psi. I've checked all conections on the piping and everyone is holding fine, with the supplied clamps. Nice job Bill.

Yes and no. It was dynoed when the BSR tune was put in. Check out there web site. When I picked it up this last time we were in a hurry and ran out of time. I am going back up to have it dynoed and hopefully a trip to Bill's local drag strip.

Yawn. I realize he's probably busy doing actual work, but I'd sure love to hear from Bill on availability for these products that many of us are climbing the walls for. Sometimes we start to get so itchy that we buy other things with our money... and then don't have any left for the goodies :(

I may have to spend my money on starting my new collection of speciality keychains if Bill isn't ready to roll out more parts for our cars...

Yeah, they said intercooler piping would be available in August and it is the last week of August

The intercooler and intake say September.

Is there a downpipe in the works?

I'm now dead in the water waiting on a replacement plastic piece from GM to fix my car (as several others have experienced). I'd be up and running in a hearbeat if I could get hard pipes from Hahn. Bill's disappeared off the board... I appreciate their being busy... busy is a good thing when you own a business. But it would be great to get some kind of tangible updates from them on these parts. Their site still tells me they'll be available August '08. C'mon guys, keep us posted.

Since this pipe seems to be a huge issue, it would make sense to release just this pipe first.
