Today I burned up a whole tank to gas on a trip of 375 miles and only averaged 26 MPG. :(
This was from home 30 miles E of Clevland down I-71 to Columbus and back.
OK, the mileage wasn't so impressive, but then again, on the way down my total average speed was 76 MPH. On the way back up it averaged 82 MPH. Considering some long streches of 55 MPH limit construction, that was bookin'
Interestingly, both ways I had escort vehicles in front to shield me from those pesky speed traps. Both ways the OHP provided a pace car who made us keep it to 75 MPH for a few mile.
All in all many long streches at 90+ and I hit 115 a couple times. This is with 4 passengers.
So all in all, I guess 26 MPG wasn't too bad.

I'm working on pics.
Seriously, I wasn't going for mileage, I really know how to do good on that. I was just in a big hurry.
As far as the escorts go, that was some other drivers in a big hurry too. I've driven all over this country, and there is a region around Cleveland and streching up to Detroit where people drive faster than anywhere else. Right downtown, you're going 75 and people pass you like you're standing still.

Ever drive in the "D", or anywhere in Michigan. The low speed lane rolls at about 72 and it goes up from there. If you see someone doin over 75 for extended time through any highway within 60 miles of Cleveland. They obviously are just passing through (its fun to check for foreign plates to see who hasnt figured out ohio is a MFER about speeding)...or have insurance rates as high as their speed. Hey but 26 aint bad considering the speed.

I suppose we shouldn't be proud of it, but it must be part of the genetic makeup of people who grew up in the cradle of the automobile.

True,
I only went to the D when I worked for GM, it seemed like all the new model American cars are there first. But man-o-man are your roads terrible.
