Articles are OFTEN wrong about such things... and considering there's no Stage I or Stage II (yet), seems odd. But, here's the info for those who love info.

Open hood sides reveal the high-powered Ecotec engine, which has been pumped up with the help of GM Performance Parts' Stage III performance kit and a larger turbo.

There are teams that have built Ecotecs over 1000 HP. These are stout engines.

John Lingenfelter before his death was pushing a Turbo Ecotech to near 2,000 HP in Cavalier drag car.

He changed to a GM twin turboc DOHC V6 and then was closing in on 2,500 HP at the time of his crash,

looking at the pics thats far from a stock motor with a stage 3 kit.. i wouldnt look into it too much
