View Full Version : Head for the Biltmore in August
galladanb 05-02-2006, 11:55 AM What I have so far.
This event could be weekend of Aug. 12 & 13, 06 (Other dates optional)
First, the site is located at:
http://www.biltmore.com
I would encourage you all to go have a look, and try out some
package rates, look at the "Fun Stuff" & "Area Hotels" links, etc...
They consider groups to be 20 or more. Less is at individual rates.
They have many packages starting around $550 to over $4000 per
couple for a couple of nights. Package details can be found at the website.
All rooms at the Biltmore Inn are non smoking and no pets.
I have contacted the group planner for our area, and left a message.
More details to follow...
galladanb 05-02-2006, 03:48 PM More information.
The car Photo opp is doable as long as we can be ready
as a group before they open the gates to the public.
That means before 8 am on Sunday.
The package rates are not offered to groups. The
packages are for Biltmore Inn guests.
Surrounding lodging is available and varies
($190.00 to $275.00 per room) for a King suite
depending on several different providors. Many of
these come with day passes to the Biltmore House.
We can still receive a group discount for 20 or more
for regular admission to the Biltmore,
(Group day pass = $35.00 approx. vs Reg non group of $45.00)
Guests of the Biltmore Inn are more likely to receive
preferential handling...
I will check into other area attractions.
galladanb 05-02-2006, 04:03 PM Here is an official Asheville attractions site:
http://www.asheville.com/attractions/
Looks like they have a lot of possibilities.
KY Dave 05-02-2006, 06:22 PM I live in SE Kentucky. I could drive over for that. I've been to Biltmore house several times. GREAT place. Are you wanting to do a group picture of several HHRs in front of the Biltmore House? That would be super.
Clarke33 05-02-2006, 10:28 PM Another option for lodging in that area is the Pisgah Inn. It is around 25 miles from the Biltmore and is the highest point on The Blue Ridge Parkway. The Parkway is a cool place to cruise, with very scenic views. The North Carolina Arboretum is located at the exit off the Parkway headed towards the Biltmore House. The Arboretum is another very nice stop with beautifully landscaped trails, gardens, greenhouse, etc.
Before I forget, Pisgah Inn does have a web site but since I don't know how to do hyperlinks I can't add it to my post. :red:
Airborne_Beachbum 05-03-2006, 02:21 AM I would love to meet everybody up there for a weekend but, I can't until the following weekend at the earliest. When will the dates bet set in stone so everybody can make definate plans? Is there a decent airport around or would it just be easier to fly into RDU? My girlfriend wants to go too but, she will be flying in from NE.
galladanb 05-03-2006, 08:45 AM All: PLEASE feel free to e-mail me & I will send you my phone #'s
KY Dave -- Yes on the Group picture with our HHR's on the drive!
How cool will that be????????? ;)
Clarke33 -- Your hotel idea sounds Great, I will look into pricing
and post Thrusday, ( I am in stinkin meetings all day today...)
Also to post a web link, in the advanced "post reply box",
look for the globe and chain icon, click it and type the address.
Then for good measure, do a Preview Post and try it to make sure it works.
Airborne -- Dates are not firm, but the longer we wait to firm 'em up,
the more full their calendar becomes due to fall colors, concerts,
other groups, etc... So, they will be less able to cut us a deal...
Also, I am not familiar with NC airports, but most cities offer
a puddle jumper at a higher cost...;)
Also, Chattonooga has an airport that might work for your gal.
I am excited! We have three maybe more from my
area that will be willing to attend this regional event. :thumb:
CheckSando 05-03-2006, 08:53 AM My girlfriend and I are in! We have been looking for a reason to visit Biltmore, she really wants to go.
Maybe getting a place a couple miles out and cruising in Sunday all together would be cool.
You should update the main post with Event details once they are solidified and a list of who will be attending.
Should be a blast!
galladanb 05-03-2006, 10:51 AM CS-- Yes, I will update as soon as everything starts firming up,
right now all is subject to change, as you can imagine...
I had one vote for the weekend of Aug. 20, and I think that will work for all.
It may be tuff to firm up via this forum, but we can make this happen!!
I wanna go, gosh darn it all... And I want that photo in front!!!:thumb:
Skatetheglobe 05-03-2006, 11:32 AM we may have to make a southern southeast chapter..That place is over 12hrs from me..
galladanb 05-03-2006, 11:37 AM Wow, are you in the southern tip?
This is going to be worth the drive, I'm a thinking...
Skatetheglobe 05-03-2006, 11:42 AM not the tip but I'm down here a bit so its just to far to drive for a weekend..Let me know when yall come to Florida..
Ah.I just noticed yall were thinking August and my chick is planning a trip to Iowa to see her family in July so I'm definetly out..I pretty much have to save all year to go on any out of state trip..
guido099 05-03-2006, 11:52 AM That is my wedding aniv., I'll see if she would like to go. We haven't made any plans so far. It sounds great tough, we can be there in less than 2 hours. We've never been there, this would give us a good reason:thumb:
dan-d 05-03-2006, 12:43 PM We're about an 8 hour drive away so it's doable. I'll do some checking to see if we can make it. I think it would be a nice g2g for a weekend.
DaJoker 05-03-2006, 02:29 PM It's about a 4-5 hour drive from here depending on if I take the interstates or the Parkway. Would be neat to get to meet you folks since I'm brand spankin' new to these here HHRs and the forums. Now to talk the wife into it. ;)
galladanb 05-03-2006, 02:58 PM DA -- Welcome to the forums!
So do ya think you could make the event in Aug.?
I would love to meet you there.
All -- Just heard a rumor (http://www.brucehornsby.com/tour.php#asheville) that Bruce Hornsby is doing
a concert at Biltmore on Friday Aug. 11th.
At least it is on his website concert schedule for now.
However, the Biltmore has not confirmed this date.
we may have to make a southern southeast chapter..That place is over 12hrs from me..
Add about another 1½ hours for me.
Wow, are you in the southern tip?
That would be me. Only 1 member on this site lives farther south in Florida than me (06hhrjr). At least of those members posting here.
galladanb 05-05-2006, 04:10 PM Here is another shot for you to ponder...

Can you imagine a group of our R's lined up real purdy against the rail? :thumb:
Come on guys let's get this worked out...
TNHHR1 05-07-2006, 03:42 PM Dan...

After checking rates online, to stay onsite, I was wondering how many would want to pay $350-$500 per night, anyway. That is pretty pricey for me, just to spend the night somewhere. A couple of years ago we stayed in a Howard Johnson Inn, just outside the Biltmore gates, and only paid around $65 per night. It was an older property but had clean rooms that were larger than most. Pisgah Inn rooms are in the $85-$95 range if we would want to cruise the Blue Ridge Parkway also.

I would be glad to stay in one of the hotels outside at $100 or less a night. I am afraid that if I stayed at the Biltmore, I might end up with a dungeon room. :rof: Just kidding!
galladanb 05-07-2006, 08:43 PM Well, when I checked last week, the BI had rooms.
But the longer it takes us to zero in on a date, the less
likely we are to find a room there or anywhere else in
the area. As I said, summer concerts and seasonal
changes will block up the area pretty fast.
Let's just concentrate on a date that will work, then
we can go after lodging.
The Pisgah rates are better than the BI, but the facility
is MUCH older, and will NOT be as nice. Now, I am not picky,
but older and cheaper may not be a better combo in this case..
Clarke33 05-07-2006, 10:38 PM Believe me, when we are traveling, we don't stay in dumps. A couple of years ago we ate at the Pisgah Inn, while driving the Parkway, and I took a look at one of the rooms while there. You are right about it not being a new Hotel but the rooms were very clean and had great views of the mountains. I really think we can find something nice, in the area, that doesn't cost an arm and a leg. I'm too cheap to drop a grand for a two night stay!
galladanb 05-08-2006, 08:25 AM OH, PLEASE forgive me. I was not trying to say anything like that. :red:
And we agree, the BI may be tooooo much!
I meant that we have stayed in hundreds of hotels over our
course and in our experience, the older ones are not always
the nicer ones. ;)
I am sure the Pisgah will be fine, and I am sure somebody
will want nicer. You know how folks are. I for one am not
concerned about lodging. Just about anyplace will do for us.
Again, let's focus on a date, then we can start putting it together. :thumb:
galladanb 05-08-2006, 11:18 AM Look closely for the two flower pots. Just over this
wall you will see the pavement area in front of the
Front Lawn. This pavement area is where the HHR's
would park.
dan-d 05-08-2006, 12:00 PM By all means lets get a date set, Kathy and I want to do this. Like some others have said, we just want a decent place to stay for the weekend without having to spend a fortune. Living on a fixed income as we are it really does make a difference between attending or not. As we all know, the sooner we can set a date the better chances we have at getting reservations at a decent place and at a good cost. I don't know anything about the area so I'll just have to rely on those of you who do. Hope to join you there for a nice weekend. -Dan
TNHHR1 05-11-2006, 05:31 PM Dan'l...
