Anybody out there heard of Flowsound mufflers?
Shop was supposed to install Flowmaster 40, but later I found out that they used something known as Flowsound! I've never heard of them.
Before I cause the sh*t to hit the fan I'd like a little more ammo!
cj krause 05-02-2006, 06:30 PM http://www.flatlanderracing.com/fullboar_vtube.html
kind of tacky trying to switch you like that
GDZHHR 05-02-2006, 06:47 PM Thanks CJ, I had already found that.
Not much online anywhere about them. NO company info that I can find.
BlackHHR 05-02-2006, 06:58 PM I have never heard of that before. Sounds like some kind of cheap imatation for the legend super 40.

Just found your "Flowsound" mufflers HERE (http://www.flatlanderracing.com/fullboar_vtube.html).
They look very similar to FlowMasters and according to the reviews they are). Most Flowmaster types are "too much" muffler for the HHR. Meaning: they provide too much flow and not enough back pressure, as the HHR's ecotec likes to see more for peak operation. This type of muffler tends to make the HHR "fall on it's face."
But, even if they were the greatest thing since sliced bread - you will have to find the exact size/design/model that will perform properly on the HHR. This is not an easy task as most muffler manufacturers make hundreds of sizes/styles of mufflers. Just finding one with the proper pipe sizing and outlet location does not mean it will perform right on the HHR. It's all about flow rate and back pressure.
We've done the homework, and found a great performing, affordable muffler which compliments the HHR's ecotec engine. Power is increased and mileage too if you keep your foot out of it. I do not sell these mufflers. Just trying to provide helpful info for other HHR owners.
Ask anyone here who has tried one (several have)...the IMCO 924 works great! The back pressure that a Turbo style muffler provides is just what the doctor ordered for the HHR.
Hope it helps,
GDZHHR 05-02-2006, 08:19 PM I had my wife fax me a copy of the reciept, I'm at work it was at home, and also read me the info off of the box that the muffler that the shop installed came in.
The muffler I wanted and was charged for---Flowmaster Super 40-$109.95
muffler that was installed (priced on-line, free shipping)- Flowsound # 82441-$39.95
I'm sorry, but I can pray all I want, this is wrong! A $60 over-charge!:(
I am trying to find a local outlet for a....wait for it Mike....IMCO 924.
The plan is to go back to the shop, tell them I want my money back and that I want them to install the new muffler, the IMCO 924  , for free.
I think that considering that they commited fraud I'm being pretty lenient.
Feedback would be appreciated!
booksmitty 05-02-2006, 08:31 PM Better Business Bureau- lay a complaint there. Take a print out of the website for the muffler you were given. See if there have been other complaints for this shop then if that's a yes, Attorney time!
Viola! Mufflers for life!
BlackHHR 05-02-2006, 08:33 PM I think your letting them off too easy.
Are they a well known shop?
They should supply and install the muffler that you want for free and give you all your money back. Then again it could of been a mistake at the shop and they did not know it was the wrong muffler.
GDZHHR 05-02-2006, 08:45 PM Some great ideas so far.
As often as I talked to the manager and the tech, there is no way there could have been a misunderstanding because all of us kept referring to it as a Flowmaster.
The BBB is a great idea, usually one of my firsts but it didn't occur to me.
And yeah they should be doing something free in addition to all of my money back, at the very least!
Oh yeah I forgot, they charged me $5 to get rid of parts that I took with me! Didn't notice until I looked at the receipt, but I took the original muffler home with me. That's how I got the box to the one that they put on.
GDZHHR 05-02-2006, 08:51 PM Just checked The BBB, 4 unresolved cases. What they consider "unsatisfactory record with the Bureau due to one or more unresolved complaint(s)."
http://www.stlouis.bbb.org/~common/ebindr/images/tc.gif"BBB Definition:
unsatisfactory record - A company has an "unsatisfactory business performance record" with the Bureau is based on the experiences reflected in BBB files. This file condition results when the company has failed to resolve or respond to complaints, repeatedly failed to respond or resolve issues in a timely manner, failed to resolve the underlying issues for a pattern of complaints, failed to honor their commitment to mediate or arbitrate disputes or honor mediated agreements or arbitrated decisions, failed to substantiate, modify or discontinue false advertising claims that are challenged by the BBB, or failed to discontinue unauthorized use of the BBB name and logo, a Federally protected trademark."http://www.stlouis.bbb.org/~common/ebindr/images/bc.gif
Oh and by the way, it was Car-X.

Can you tell a difference in how your hhr runs?Does it fell more sluggish?
GDZHHR 05-02-2006, 09:22 PM That's the thing...it sounds good and runs fine.
I'm just upset that they switched without charging less.
captain howdy 05-02-2006, 09:28 PM I can't believe places are trying to bait and switch people now days. That's just wrong and I would be pissed! :cussing: Best of luck getting it resolved. :thumb:

adamlowery 05-02-2006, 11:19 PM I bought a cpu here in oklahoma. Took it home, instead of a 3.ghz p4 they stuck me with a 2.2ghz. I took it back up there figuring it'd be all gravy and they'd just give me my new one and they said the second I left the store it was my fault for not checking. I filed a complaint with BBB, they did nothing. I complained to the owner and the manager and it did nothing. The next weekend me and my friends picketed for 36 hours straight. I ended up getting to keep the cpu and got triple store credit for the price i was charged for the cpu. Needless to say I checked my crap when i left that time.
cj krause 05-02-2006, 11:33 PM I had a guy in Massachusetts owe me $750 for some product he bought from me,,, told me he wouldnt pay and said it was his discount. he told me i would never sue him in MA to get my money
when i went to Lake George for the rally, i got a permit to picket in Worster, MA ,, made a sign from a yardstick and 2 poster boards. sat in front of his store and had a permit for 48 hours.
he called the police, i showed my permit and he was losing busniess left and right,,, sign said,
wont pay for his product
wont pay his bills
you expect him to service your warranty needs after you buy???
all hand drawn
loss of a ton of business and my permit and he came out and asked me what would make me go away. i told him $1000 in cash, 250 for interst and having to deal w a PR***.
he came back w $750. i sat there and he lost more business. the whole morning i kept track of how many went in and how many left. 32 never went in. 2 went in.
he came back 20 min later w $1000 cash.
i threw the signs in his trash and went on to Lake George and never heard from him again.
GDZHHR 05-02-2006, 11:36 PM That's why I'm doing my research now.
They've already had 4 unresolved claims against them with BBB.
Its only $60 so no one else will care! Too little to worry about.
I'll try to contact the corparate offices, but its a franchise!
I am considering cantacting one of the local news programs. they're always looking for a company that's scewing the public.
Other than that my options are limited to what I can talk them into.
Picketings sounds fun but its not possible for me.
I'll keep all posted about what happens.
In the mean time here's some before and after shots.......

cj krause 05-02-2006, 11:53 PM what was the total cost with the install?
GDZHHR 05-03-2006, 12:19 AM $148.21 (w/$25 coupon)
cj krause 05-03-2006, 12:28 AM Wow
i paid $89 for the IMCO T924 installed
no coupon
and a great guy to put it in
GDZHHR 05-03-2006, 12:52 AM Yeah well live and learn...I plan on living so I guess I'll be forced to keep learning!!
Skatetheglobe 05-03-2006, 12:59 AM I say whatever..I mean see if you can get some refund for the wrong muffler but if your happy with it other wise why mess with it?

You're reading my mind!
I'm also liking the picketing idea the more I think about it.
And I might have let it got and just have asked for the price difference...
but they tried to say the two mufflers were basically the same and they never even offered!!
DJNateGnau 05-03-2006, 02:38 AM Major price difference, morons! Picket, AND Call Contact 2!
cj krause 05-03-2006, 08:36 AM if that muffler has a $39.95 retail i doubt seriously they paid 18 to 20 for it.
to me that is the problem.
i would make a copy of that web page from the company and ask why did they charge more than retail.
GDZHHR 05-03-2006, 09:54 AM Things just keep getting better.....talked to the regional distributer for IMCO and the don't even stock the 924's.
So.........hiho hiho...... its off to the on-line store I go........
GDZHHR 05-03-2006, 11:35 AM Just order the IMCO-924 from Full Line Exhaust, about $36 delivered.
Now I just need to get the Car-X thing straightened out!:guns:
Skatetheglobe 05-03-2006, 11:38 AM sounds to me like you spent more money than you needed to.If you were happy with what you have just keep it and get the difference between the flowmaster and the one you got returned to you..
Krejaton 05-03-2006, 12:12 PM How about a grading system for car repair places like restaurants? That would help in forcing them to get their act together and stop ripping people off.
Navyflyer11 05-03-2006, 12:15 PM Hey, soCal, I talked to a dist here in okc and they didn't have the 924 they said they had one that the body was a little smaller instead of 9x5 it was 9x4. They ask if that would work.
courthousedeb 05-03-2006, 12:42 PM Just talked to local muffler shop. They will be installing an IMCO 924 on my HHR in the next couple days. Will cost me a little more than CJ but they said it would all be good for $109.00. Just a question...should I keep the old muffler or let them have it? BTW...I only have a 2.2 but am hoping all will be good anyway. Comments welcome.
SoCalHHR 05-03-2006, 02:29 PM Hey, soCal, I talked to a dist here in okc and they didn't have the 924 they said they had one that the body was a little smaller instead of 9x5 it was 9x4. They ask if that would work.
IF you are running the 2.2L I think it would be fine. If you have a 2.4L hold out for the 5x9 (T-924). The flow needs to be right for the 2.4's VVT and the 924 has it nailed.
Oh, and the 9x4 might not sound the same either - smaller canister = less flow + less resonation = less sound.
Navyflyer11 05-03-2006, 02:37 PM Thanks, How much louder is yours compared to stock?
SoCalHHR 05-03-2006, 02:47 PM Just right!
Seriously, it's hard to describe, but sounds nice and throaty at startup & idle. None of the loud "droning" sound while cruising (like most mufflers we tried!), and when you step on it - it sounds like it has healthy power.
Plus you can actually "feel" the difference while driving.
That's the best I can describe it! :thumb:
Navyflyer11 05-03-2006, 02:50 PM Thanks, The distributor didn't have any but said the could get one in 3-5 days.
SoCalHHR 05-03-2006, 02:57 PM If you have the 2.4L - I would definuitely hold out for the 924.
Best of luck! :thumb:
Navyflyer11 05-03-2006, 03:03 PM If you have the 2.4L - I would definuitely hold out for the 924.

I do and I will.:D
GDZHHR 05-03-2006, 03:28 PM Well the saga continues....but on a more pleasant note
The local distributer did not cary the 924 and would not order one for me, said I would have to have a shop order one for me. They're gonna do it for $35.
I went ahead and ordered one on-line, 2-day delivery, total-$36.
Went by car-x and they are going to give me a full refund.
I would never consider keeping a product that i didn't order even nit seemed OK. especially when there is such limited info on it. The box that the muffler came in didn't even have an address of any kind on it.
So now I'll wait for the IMCO to get here and then have a repair shop that I've deaklt with before put it on.
Now the only remaining question is whether car-z will come through with the refund.
cj krause 05-04-2006, 01:03 AM if you used a credit card, take it back, get a signature from someone at the store and then go to your bank or credit card company and let them reverse the charge saying it was fraud and not what u were told u were getting.
GDZHHR 05-04-2006, 02:12 AM Not quite that simple.:cussing:
The company's (car-x) policy is to issue refunds by check. They are going to tell me tomorrow if it will be mailed or if I will get it from the store.
Not trusting them, I called my credit card company to dispute the charge.
This is where it get screwy.
I can't dispute it until I'm charged. In other words, it is still a pending charge, they can't do anything until I am actually charge for the service. Once it is posted, then I can file a dispute. Car-x will then have eight days to respond.
That's where I start getting confused.
If they, car-x, says "no, its a valid charge" then there is a chance that......well like I said, i get confused.
The rep at HSBC did say that it did seem to her to be a clear case of fraud, for whtever that's worth!
Right now, I'm waiting to see if car-x does the right thing.
If not, it will get ugly.
I may have changed and left my evil ways in the past, but it's not like I don't know where to find them!:guns:
cj krause 05-04-2006, 06:52 AM if no credit is received, if you have a state attorney general,,, file a complaint with them,,, they love fraud where people are getting overcharged more than retail and no refund
