View Full Version : HHR SS vs Integra
camaro98z28 09-20-2008, 09:21 PM So I went to wash the car today and when I was leaving the place. I got stuck at a light. Well while I was sitting there, a 2001 Integra pulled up next to me. Younger guy and had some stickers on it with very nice wheels. Well the light turned green and we started out slow and then I heard him get on the gas "Fart Car Sound" and I knew it was time to release the beast. I mashed the peddle and the turbo spooled up and I passed this guy pretty quickly. I got to about 75mph and I was already 4-5 cars ahead so I slowed back down and he got behind me. I came up on my turn and the guy followed me.
Well I couldn't turn yet because of traffic and he got out and asked to see my ride. We turned and stopped on a side road and he was saying, " he never seen one of these before and it's pretty nice". He liked the wheels and the effects. He asked if it was modded. I said no and that it was stock so far.
I asked him what he did to his car and here is his mods.
Type -R engine with intake, header, and exhaust. The car was very clean and not ricey at all. He was going to do a turbo kit soon.
Good times :one:
doughboy 09-20-2008, 09:30 PM sounds awesome man congrats! i got the 2.2 n/a and so far from a stop i only beat a 4 banger s10, but from about a 25 kick i have beat a sentra intake, exhaust, a civic intake, header, cat back exhaust, and high flow cat, and a foucus hatch with intake, header, and exhaust!
Cokeybill 09-21-2008, 09:14 AM Nice kills dough boy but in all regards we're talkin' SS here.
doughboy 09-21-2008, 02:49 PM haha well in that case i can never beat a ss right now so i will close my mouth, but it wouldn't suprise me if some one with a 2.2 got a little frisky and started building a lt to smoke the ss!;)
AaronSS 09-23-2008, 10:01 AM You're gonna make the ricers cry, you big meanie. Good kill.
camaro98z28 09-25-2008, 09:44 PM Im doing my part but really need to hit the Dyno to get base numbers. I won't hit the track until it gets cooler out.
Blackedout97 10-06-2008, 08:55 PM would have been nice if you could have heads-up'ed with him....those b18c acura motors all ballsey.

I think the adjective "ballsy" comes with a torque requirement below 5K RPM, and its usage is expressly forbidden when describing any n/a Honda b-series motor. Epic fail.

Gotta wait for the V-tak to kick in! Then the serious power awakens.
Blackedout97 10-09-2008, 03:44 PM im sorry...i didnt realize that in order to be "ballsy" you had to have a specific amount TQ in a specific RPM range. I was refering to the fact that stock with just under 200hp and 130 ftlbs the thing runs in the 14's.....thats pretty ballsy.
For my own knowledge...what amount of tq qualify a vehicle for this catagory?
Chevy SS 10-09-2008, 04:31 PM I'd say this is ballsy...

just for reference...exactly what car are you referring to that is stock, and has 200 hp, that will run in the 14s? i just double checked on the brand new SI, and it only pulls out a 15.1, has 197hp@7800 and 139ft-lb@6200 and a curb weight at 2877lbs. you wanna try to tell me there is an older car, running a B18, that is faster, stock?

Win!

He's referring to an Integra GS-R or a Type-R.

The first and most important requirement is that there is not an "H" or an "A" on the hood. Torque must be equal to at least 80% peak horsepower, and it must reach that point below 5K rpm.
I'm just giving you hell man. It's all in good fun. I hate Hondas, period. Not imports, just Hondas.

okay, never said i knew everything about Hondas, it just seemed unlikely to me that Honda would be so proud of their new Si, when it's really just working backward now, and their cars are getting slower! proved me wrong :shrugs: i'm with you Aaron, i strongly dislike Hondas as well. whole lotta hub-bub out there about them, when they aren't nearly as fantastic as every ricer thinks they are. and yes, i said ricer for a reason. those that aren't ricers that have an infatuation with Hondas realize they aren't the worlds best car, just a good value and fun to tune/build.
edit- i also love that the new Si costs more than our HHR SS, and gets beat out big time, despite a over 400 lb weight difference. may God have pity on that car when they try showing off to a Cobalt SS/TC (also cheaper hehe)
edit again-damn, they changed their pricing since the car came out...it DID cost more...my coworker just bought one recently and was saying he paid like $27K...i couldn't believe it!

STORY TIME!
WARNING! I like telling this story so it's gonna be long.
My first run-in with the new SI came right after they came out. Back then I still had a heavily modded '02 Sentra SE-R SpecV. It had minor headwork, cams, full exhaust, intake, pulleys, solid mounts, lightweight forged wheels, TBS, wider tires... just about every mod available for a n/a car. I ran with full interior and a Type-R 12 in the back, so it wasn't any sort of a stripped out race car.
I had just left a big meet on the nice side of town, and I was on the way home with a buddy riding shotgun. He's a big boy, probably 260-280 or so. The six lane road we were on was the spot for racing way back when, but that was squished a long time ago when it became the ritzy part of town. Anyone with any sense knows better than to do runs there.
Out of nowhere, a second generation Eclipse GS-T (exhaust, bov, intake, maybe more) and a brand new '06 Si came rolling up on either side of us. The GS-T was driven by a respectable looking hispanic guy, and the Civic was driven by a college age Asian guy. The three passengers in the Civic were cute Asian girls who might have weighed as much as my buddy, collectively. I guess the ricer in the Civic decided to show off for his girlfriends, because he began thrashing the new motor, holding in the clutch and bouncing off the rev limiter repeatedly. He would rev and jump out in front, then wait... you know how they do. He thought he was ready. But I wanted to be responsible for once. There are cops crawling all over that road, but the ricer wouldn't let up. I was waiting for one of them to pull him over for making all of that nasty noise, quite honestly. I nodded my head no, and he continued to instigate. When he finally pulled ahead of me and moved on, I couldn't handle staring at his headlights and that ugly H. It was an insult to my pride, and it didn't help that my buddy was telling me how badly the Civic would embarrass me if I tried it. I had enough. I downshifted, passed a few cars, and we lined up three deep at the next light.
GREEN!
I put a bus on him before 60 and let off, with the GS-T two cars behind.
We catch another light, and my buddy, shocked, proud, and ecstatic, immediately rolls down the window. I can't do anything but laugh hysterically at his antics.
"How much did you pay for that Civic?"
"$25xxx"
"Did your daddy buy it for you?"
No answer.
"Isn't it supposed to have 200hp?"
"Yeah."
"It sure is slow. You should take it back. Hey ladies, why don't you come ride in a fast car?"
"Let's run again. I'll smoke your ass."
It was hilarious. The Asian kid, his pride severely injured, wanted another try.
GREEN! Same result. More smack talking ensues.
The Asian kid then urges us to race the GS-T. I guess he didn't think we knew what it was.
"He'll kick your ass. His car is fast."
Yeah right. My buddy goes on:
"In case you didn't notice we just smoked him twice. Make sure you're watching when we do it to both of you again."
Green! Same result. Now smack talking for the GS-T. We knew it was turbo, but feigned ignorance.
"Hey buddy, is that thing turbo?"
GS-T makes BOV noise.
"Is something wrong with it?"
"No!"
"You sure? You should go get it fixed because we just smoked your ass three times and we don't have a turbo."
Various impolite hand guestures ensued, and they both rolled up the windows. The girls smiled through, we waved, and the guys wouldn't look at us. It was great.

Gotta wait for the V-tak to kick in! Then the serious power awakens., Hey man running through the threads enjoying the SS guys thinking they own a race car thing, and came
across your "NoObama" banner. This is an HHR site, not a political one. I suggest we keep it that way. Todd (Uma)

Yonash 10-11-2008, 03:42 PM Aaron, that is the best story i have ever heard! the new Si is a nice car to drive, but are soo over priced for how fast (err...slow) they are. i do gotta say this though, their shifter sure is smooth as butter. i love their shifter. (valet driver, i've driven tons of them...they're popular around here)
camaro98z28 10-11-2008, 05:59 PM I like having a quick DD. Now I have time to start messing with the Z28 more now that it's nicer out side. Looking to get a TH400 soon. Then I'll see low 10's. Aint nothing like a 430RWHP with a 250 HP shot on top. Then I can go back to the HHR and race the Ricers. :)

i guess you caught him off guard. integra type r are pretty quick even if you swap motors. i own a teg ls it was slow but when you boost it man..you talk about a 13 sec car. my opinion i highly doubt he own a type r motor but that just my $.02. not to brag about import on domestic forum but both cars are great to own. :thumb:  :D
