Just wandering if anyone else with the 2.2L has this problem.
When the engine is warm and I start it I notice that is will rev to 1500 RPM and down to 700 RPM. It will keep doing it untill I rev it up. then it will run normal. :red:
Also I noticed that it will whistle when I speed up on city streets. Had the music off and heard it. happens most the time.

I can remember by having the rev problem once, so i didn't think much of it. The only noise I hear in mine sounds somewhat similar to a very muffled old VW beetle sound. That's the best way I can describe it. I think it is just the normal engine noise??

I must be one of the lucky ones...I haven't had any problems with my HHR. I would say if it continues to do that, to take it to the dealer and have them check it out. Of course...it won't do it then cuz it's been running.

The noise is from the front of the car. It will go to the shop.

are you sure the whistling noise isn't from the a/c being on outside air instead of recycled? The car switches to outside air everytime you start the car.Thats the only whistling I have heard out of my 2.2. No idle problem either..

I'm sure. I don't hear it unless I have the window down. It almost sounds like a turbo.

So far, other than 1 problem with my remote start, the only other problem I have had is paint. Mine starts fine and has never revved. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Remember with all of his mods on that thing he has about 200HP more than you.
Side pipes alone are about 80HP.

lol..I guess so. Seriously, though. That "I" gear on the auto is really nice. With that "I" gear, it can really jump. I don't know how many times I had to down shift to 4th on the hwy, just to keep up with him. Almost makes me wish I had an automatic now. D'oh! ;)

I've never used I gear. Do you use it around town while cruising? What does it do, maybe lock it in 2nd or 3rd?

I am very happy with the 2.2 makes me think that I would really have loved the 2.4!!! nearly 6,000 miles since March 28, 2006 and no grief at all. Another trip last weekend 600 miles, more in town driving than usual...average 29.5 mph...

Does this help?

in I gear, it will not go into 4th, only drive in first 3 gears. Remember 4th is an overdrive.

try it, you willl like it. the more you use it the more fun it is.

page 2-28 in your manual
Intermediate (I): this position is also used for normal driving. However, it offers braking from the engine for slight downgrades where the vehicle would otherwise accelerate due to steepness of grade. If repetitve shifts occur between 3rd and 4th gears on steep uphills, this position can be used to prevent repetitive shifting. Fuel economyu will be lower than automatic overdrive (D). here are some times you might choose Intermediate instead of Drive
1 when driving on hilly, winding roads
2 when towing a trailer, so there is less shifting between gears
3 for hauling a** and losing PT losers (had to throw that in)

O.K. heres the story.
I was under the hood and noticed that the bottom of the intake was cracked. On the left front side right above where it bolts to the engine. I took it to the dealer that I have gone to for 2 other issues and they said that I broke it when I did the oil change. The shop manager said that I broke it while taking it off to do the oil change. I showed him that you do not have to take it off for that. He said that he will not warrenty it. We argued and he told me to
"F" off. I then went to the dealer that I test drove my first HHR. They took one look at it and ordered me a new one. Should be 5 to 6 days.
They also did a tire rotation for free while I was there. Thats how a shop should be. I now know where I'll be taking my Baby from now on.

That other place needs to be reported. That's just uncalled for. Don't they know that the customer is always right?!

Ya! The funny thing is that the shop that is going to fix it was where I was going to buy my HHR from, but I found the black HHR else where for cheeper.
This dealer was going to charge my $1000.00 more for it. When they seen that I bought it else where for cheeper the sales manager told me to "F" off, but the shop seems to be very good. Time will tell. I just don't want to drive 3 hours to the dealer that I bought it from for warrenty work. Not that many hours in a day.

i also have the up and down RPM i took the hhr in for an oil change and the service advisor noticed the problem and told me that it might be a fuel control unit or something like that but they did not check it any further becuase i was in a hurry. I also noticed that the black thing is broken I think i broke it when i was doing the intake thing that cj krause did. i just put sealent but that didnt remove the RPM problem. I also have the whistle sound and a knocking but i can only hear it when im inside the car, but it doesnt make the knocking sound all the time, ill take it in probably next week because im waiting on a headlight replacement water keeps getting inside the right one.

Ouch!!!!!
I thought that I was having all ths problems with the engine, but now I don't feel so bad.
I hope that they can get it fixed for you. Keep me posted if they fix it. I am having them look at the RPM thing when they change the intake next week.
I'll post the findings if they find anything.:(

I hope that the dealer fixes everything that is due to your HHR and that they do it with courtesy. As far as txsman's comment that all customers are right.....:barf: I have owned and managed a few different business ventures and I have to say that not all customers are right. I think in this situation that the dealer should have done the right thing and fixed the intake. My dealer here in Batesville Indiana is awesome!!! I took my HHr in to get the TSB for the radio pop, and the service rep not only took care of it he also noted on my warranty claim that the speakers now sound "distorted" and he has a new set of speakers on the way. That is service!!!!:breakdanc :2cents: :twothumbs :hhr:

Hey Folks:
The high idle and whistling sound is an indication of a vacumn leak. The intake runners are close to the oil filter and when using an extension to remove the filter I can see a problem with hitting(damaging) the Intake. Scared me when I saw that. But, maybe they will fix it, they should. Plastic????? I guess we need to find a way to do this without hitting the Intake runners. I was going to get a wobble extension to keep the ratchet and extension away from the Intake. Next time I'll see how that works. I would say a good epoxy would seal the intake, but it may be cracked where you can't see it. Always something, HUH?
Good luck

the whistling sound has gone away since i put sealent on the crack. But regarding the rpm problem the service advisor told me it might be something with fuel becuase when the car does this it seems like if it was running out of fuel and then quickly get enough fuel to run the car runs nicely when im driving it. Im going to Tijuana in 2 weeks when i come back ill be due for an oil change and thats when i hope i get everything fixed
