Thought I'd take a break from my frusterating aftermarket stereo install parts hunt to say hi and maybe ask the professionals. I joined this site as soon as I was approved for financing on my new 2009 HHR LT (Black! +Auto, 2.2L - 155HP, Running Boards, 8-way power seat, Onstar, XM, Side cutain airbags, Ebony cloth interior, etc.). 2 mods so far: K&N drop in filter and "HHR" third break light blackout (had it since Monday, it's only Saturday now!). On the way: polished steel tail pipe tip, chrome "HHR" +bowtie license plate frame and blue LED interior lighting for the front interior under the dash.
Well, now I've got it and my nice Sony head unit with USB input and 12" JBL Dual Voice coil sub and amp is sitting in the garage waiting for me to sort some things out. I yanked them out right before I tossed my 2003 POS Cruiser off a cliff:nuts:.
So this is off topic (sort of). Maybe I'll post it elsewhere later. Basically I have a few questions about installing aftermarket stereo stuff in an 09. I see all kinds of kits and adapters that go up to 08 models, no mention of 09 anywhere. I see the METRA GMOS-LAN-03 harness adapter lets you keep your OnStar and chimes functionality, but it doesn't say it supports 09 models anywhere that I can find! Can't find a different model that does. Has anything changed in that area between 08 and 09? Also with the dash adapter (to regular single DIN)?
One more major question: how does doing your own stereo install (quite professionally, mind you, doing my own for 10 years now) affect your warranty? Kind of important because I feel like I paid $10,000 for the warranty itself.
Sorry for just introducing myself and then completely dumping on you, but I need answers! As far as I can tell, I've come to the right place! Looking forward to tricking out the new HHR with a little bit of help from my new friends!
Thanks in advance,
djnixtre

Hey DJ! I hope things go well for you in terms of the stereo install.

Quick question, does your 2009 have the premium sound? Do you have the single cd with aux input and usb input? If you get it out and replaced with another unit I might be willing to take the stock the one off your hands. I'd really like to upgrade my 06 to an 09 radio because I really want the USB input.

I have the NON-amplified system (not pioneer) and it does NOT have USB...that's why I am swithing it out...sorry.

Thanks for letting me know. USB plug is a really nice feature. My girlfriend has one in her Golf and it sure beats CDs and even MP3 players (atleast in my books.)

I can only imagine how much a dealership would charge for the new radio, it would be nice if I could find for a good price and that's why I asked.

USB is extra super good for "lack-of-skippability", especially with tonnes of bass. Hate hitting that sweet note just to have it skip...down right embarrassing!
