During my first outing in the 2006 Chevy HHR, a car pulls up next to me and signals me to roll down my window. "What's that car you're driving?" shouts the mom over her thoroughly embarrassed teenage daughter. "It's really cute!"

What a great way to start a test drive. I like driving cute cars. This car looks a bit retro, a bit futuristic, a bit … different. I use the term 'car' loosely because I can't quite seem to categorize this vehicle. The price sheet that comes with my test car calls it a sedan. In my opinion it's anything but; a roomy interior with upright seating and easy access to cargo space large enough for my kids' wagon. That sounds more like an SUV.

It's definitely not an SUV, however with fuel mileage as high as 30 miles per gallon, a car-like ride and a step-in height with a running board that's manageable even for my 3-year-old. No matter what it's called, it's a fun vehicle to tool around in.

Although manual transmission is standard (what do you want for $16K?), this manual is smooth enough to let sleeping babies sleep. There will be no sleeping, however in my test vehicle as we're busy rocking out to the XM Satellite Radio. I'm a bit concerned for my sanity as I find myself just as thrilled as the kids when Radio Disney plays the Crazy Frog, Hamster Dance and "Hillary Dillary Duff." I figure it's OK for my kindergartener to be requesting teeny bopper pop songs so long as she's still confusing them with nursery rhymes ("Hillary Dillary Duff" must have come from Hickory Dickory Dock).

Cargo and Cupholders

The perfectly sized cargo area expands quickly with seats that fold flat, making room for everything from "groceries to surfboards," as stated by General Motors. I'll take the surfing over the grocery shopping, please. Does it come with a sitter, too? An auxiliary glove box located on the center top of the dashboard is a great place to stash random stuff that always migrates to the car. This is completely necessary as the HHR lacks a center console. [Read rest of article here] (http://abcnews.go.com/GMA/Autos/story?id=1274120&CMP=OTC-RSSFeeds0312)

I have had one guy at work blatantly ask me if it was the new PT Cruiser while staring at the Chevy logo. I felt like telling him, "Yea its the new Chevy PT Cruiser" in a sarcastic tone then walking away but I had to be polite and explain it was a HHR because I see him every day at work.

Wait a minute! My 6'6" son in law fits into my HHR with no effort what so ever. The automatic trans is smooth as a baby's rump and accelleration is just fine. I switched from a Tahoe and am very happy with my choice. Plus, I don't feel like an old lady when I'm driving my HHR.

I always ask them have they ever seen one up close. Of course they never have. I try to give them the HHR tour. Nearly every time they say it sure gets your attention, Cool!

I'm more a fan of smart ass comments and treating the person like an idiot when they ask if its a PT.

Only my ex co-workers joked about it being a PT. But I do notice PT drivers giving me looks as we drive side to side

People are always talking to me about my car, the next time someone asks me if it is the new version of the pt cruiser, I am going to tell them " yes, it's the men's version".

I've gotten the "is that the new 4-door PT Cruiser" a lot, the whole time I'm thinking, the PT Cruiser was a four-door to start with. Then my friends girlfriend called it an HH-Ugly. That was until she actually saw, now she wants one.

Only had my HHR week but have already got a lot of great compliments on it. Some of the usual "looks like a pt", and"its cute". The cute comment really bugs me but what do you do. Actually had 2 pt owners come up and say how much nicer they thought the HHR was, of course I had to agree with their judgement and told them I could give them my salesmans card LOL :D

I have had mine since September. I also hate when it's called a P.T Loser. They may have started the old school look, but Chevy has perfected it!

My response to the Question is that a PT Cruiser? I just simply tell the person this is the Car the PT Cruiser Hopes to be when it grows up. Stops most people in there tracks.

My uncle who is a real hot rod guy (he's 70 + years old with a very cool 49 Merc) has told me that the HHR is the vehicle that will define HOT ROD in the years to come. So many possibilities with this "car" in his words. The best is yet to come. Can you imagine the mods to come in the future? My 22 year old son cant wait for me to go nuts with this car ..... then he want's to buy it from me .....Mark

Mine would have gone to my son when he graduated high school. Shaggy nickname plates and all.
i would have then bought a SS HHR and started all over again.

i think that this is more true and it is nice that another American car will be that.
