Can you clarify the word appropriate? Does this mean images that are unsuitable due to the nature of the image? Or does it mean that you would like us to limit our photos to HHR's only? There is some question about it from CH and I would like to clarify it for everyone, so we are not doing something we shouldn't be doing. Thanks.

might be nice when you find one that is inappropiate that you at least tell what the basic pic was or state a parameter of what pics are allowed. i am sure that you are pming the person when you remove it.

Hey buddy, I figure we are all adults here and we can all use common sense. Didn’t think I have to spell it out. Here is a quick example of inappropriate things I found in the Chevy HHR gallery

http://chevyhhr.net/gallery/showimage.php?i=3283&catid=newimages&cutoffdate=25

Does it belong here? I have deleted many pics that were a lot worst then that.

We are adults with common sense….let’s try to use it.

Jony..I agree that doesnt belong. Course ..many would say cursing doesnt belong either. I was simply stating that a slight explanation would be helpful.

My apologies for putting that in the gallery. It has been deleted.

That said, I have yet to figure out how to post pics without putting them into my gallery and the only instructions for posting pictures (that I have run across) involve putting images in the gallery and then cut/paste link.

Any info/directions would be helpful.

Some of us have an account on www.photobucket.com You can post your pics there on photobucket and it provides you the cut/paste link that you can use on here. Sign up is free.

JohnnyB...I think most of these images that you find were intended for the dungeon. The members are just not aware of how to upload their pics and keep them private, like Wackaloon's case.

If I may, I would recommend have the mods contact these members and give them a warning. Inform them how to post pics without having them viewed in the gallery. Not everyone is knows how to do this...I didn't learn until a couple of weeks on this site...

Wackaloon, I just post all my pics on photobucket now. It's just as easy and you don't have to worry about posting innap. pics on the gallery.

Photobucket has a great deal of storage and that's where I store all of my non-HHR photos. They give you tons of space and you also get the same codes like you do in our gallery, so things can be posted the same way. If you need assistance, just PM me and I'll be happy to help you with any questions.

Sure jonyyB...I'll work on it and get something put together. I'll also check out the site you mentioned as well and open one there so I can post instructions for that as well.

I've got a busy day today, but I'll see if I can't work that in. Babysitting my grandchildren till around noon and then off to a job interview. I will have some spare time this afternoon...but have a dinner engagement with TomsHHR who is in Denver and I'll be back online after that.

Will be sure to have something up before the weekend for sure. :thumb:

That definitely works...but when I tried it, there is a limit on the size of the file and it said it was too big. Am I doing something wrong here or do we need to compress these files so they are less kb than the allowable limit for attachments on the forum? Also, I noticed a little bar across the top, sort of like a guage...is there a limit to the number of attachments one can upload?

I did a little checking into photobucket and the other site you mentioned. Photobucket has a great set of instructions in their tips & tools area that gives great instructions on how to use photobucket.

Both sites have a limit on free storage and monthly bandwidth, which can also create a problem as well, due to the number of views that are made on the forum. It's a pretty large amount on photobucket, but as we continue to grow, that could put additional stress on that as well.

I also did some checking into photos at yahoo. My daughter has an account there and she uploaded nearly 1100 photos from her trip to WDW...and also stores other photos there as well. You can also upload an entire folder of photos, which I did yesterday to try it out. There were 72 photos in the one folder and it all uploaded quite nicely.

According to what I read there, the images you upload there will stay there forever, as long as you log into your accounts every 6 months or so. Plus they will also email you at your alternate email address to let you know if your photos are in danger of being deleted, before it is actually done. Does this sound more like what we need...where stuff isn't going to disappear? Below is what is stated at Yahoo.

How long will Yahoo! store my photos?

We currently offer free, unlimited storage to all our users. So your collection could be tens, hundreds, or even thousands of photos. You are not going to find a better deal out there.

But here’s the fine print. We don’t require you to print your photos. But we do want you to come back every now and then to make sure you’re still interested – storage is costly for us. So, be sure to sign in to your Yahoo! account at least once every six months. This simply means signing into anywhere you use your Yahoo! ID – Mail, Messenger, Music, 360 – or, of course, into Yahoo! Photos.

If we don’t see you in that period of time, your account may be identified as “dormant” and your photos could be deleted. But don’t worry – we’ll notify you via email (using the Alternate Email address you identified in your Account Information) if your account is at risk. But we’d much prefer you just use our service more often.

Note: Yahoo! accounts associated with our broadband partners (AT&T, BellSouth, Verizon, Rogers, BT) cannot become dormant and will not be deactivated.

Now is the best time to figure out our alternatives for photo storage before we do a bunch of how to's and then find out they are gonna disappear. I am going to post a thread where people can post links to the photo storage sites they use. They could provide us with a link and give us a rundown on what they offer, and why they chose them. I'm sure we might be surprised at how many places are out there and we could fall into something really great too. I'm not adverse to paying to store my photos online somewhere, I just want to make sure they will always be there when I need them.

Possibly make the thread a sticky so that it's always easy to find and things can be added as they are found. I know...more stickies. Well...how about this option? Make a separate board or add another section on the board where all the stickies can be housed. Let people know that everything there is important enough that the topic has warranted sticky status.

Just throwing out some ideas here...please don't kill the poster.

So.. This is the first time I have seen this thread but a question that was asked has still not been answered as far as I can see... And we kinda need to know so we won't get in trouble.

Does inappropriate mean that the picture was somehow lewd and not for general public viewing, or does it mean that it wasn't related to HHRs or anything that this forum deals with?

Either of those definitions could work, depending on the leadership of the forum. All forums have different rules and standards. A very nice easy clarification is all that is needed to remedy the situation.

I don't think it's so much of an issue of it not being an HHR. I believe the intent here is for the photos we put in our gallery here, should be HHR or automotive related, since this is an automotive forum. Since there are so many other places online where we can store other images, it would in my opinion, be wise for us to store other images elsewhere, or attach them using the feature provided when using the advanced feature. JMHO If my perspective on this incorrect, I am sure that JonyyB or one of the moderators will set us straight. :thumb:

To the others who are chanting my name...thanks for your vote of confidence. I enjoy this forum and helping out when I can, that's just what I do when I am part of a group. But...this is not just a group, it's a family and like our normal families we have our quirks and work through them as a family as they arise. ;)

I believe you are probably right, Deb. But if the leadership is going to get upset of inappropriate images, they need to define what is inappropriate and not just leave us guessing. I'd hate to think all of this was over a photo of an airplane being posted on an automotive forum, but you never know unless you are told.

As seen in another of your threads, I host most of my own photos on my servers anyway.

I think until we are told otherwise, it would be best to keep the images in our galleries HHR or automotive related. I'm sure once JonyyB sees the activity on this thread today, he will address this matter.

I think he is relying on the forum members to use their best judgement when adding things to their album. Now that we are rapidly approaching 2000 members, maybe things need to be a little more regimented...and I don't mean that in a bad way. What I think we need are guidelines defining what is acceptable or appropriate and if one has a question about this to contact a moderator. I've had a couple things I wasn't sure were appropriate to post...but horribly funny, so I sent them to Sindy. If she thought they were appropriate, I got :thumb: and if not, she got a good laugh.

Hmmm...now define normal

Well...normal with my family is that we all get along...and if we have differences, we talk them out amongst ourselves in a calm adult manner. No name calling, no insults...proactive instead of reactive. Works every time and everyone always walks away with a sense of accomplishment.

That's also the same behavior I witness with my boyfriends family as well...but then again, maybe we're not normal in comparison with others.

Just a bump and reminder:

When images are posted in the gallery, they are seen by everyone who visits the gallery. When an image is hosted via the attachment method, they are only seen where you have posted the image URL to.

This feature can be found when you are posting in advance mode.
When you scroll down you will see add attachments, click that and a window will open for you to upload, then they are not in the gallery

This feature is available to Premium Members. If your not a member, you can link images off-site and link to here. Or host appropriate images and you'll have no issues.
Becoming a Premium Member is also an option to be able to host appropriate images in the gallery.
