This is what it looks like when you tint the front to match the factory rear.

Looks great! I could never drive at night with that myself.
I'd be hitting every curb and gas pump in sight!

SoCal, does your strip on the front window impare your vision any? I thought about it but then I thought that I already have a hard enough time seeing stop lights while waiting for them to turn green. If I put down the sun visor I can't see. I still might do it because I love dark tint. Also did you use black vinyl to cover up the little dots around the mirror or did you tint right over them? Seeing as how they are spaced apart I don't know if little air bubbles that apear around them would realy make a difference in the looks. On my Mustangs rear window i had to use a 10" strip of black vinyl to cover up all of the little dots or it would have looked like hell. I lived with them around the edges of the little rear quarter windows, it didn't distact from the look that much.

Hi CH! My front "glare strip" is 5-inches high. With the 2-inch black border on the HHR windshield, that gives the illusion of a 7-inch strip. It looks nice, and kind of has a "lowering effect" on the car!

I went under the mirror by about an inch, that way I could have solid tint underneath. The dots aren't really a problem once the tint sets (drys). If you run 35% tint, seeing the lights is easy, but it's not dark enough for me, I changed to 5% limo tint and it's better and looks cooler. You can still see the lights change too.

Hope it helps, :thumb:

what % tint is that on the front doors? 35%?

20% It's premium Onyx tint also so it is as black as you can get and it will stay that way. ;) Wow that picture brings back memories, only tint and a few small things then. If you put 35% you will see that the fronts are lighter than the rear. If you want to match the factory you have to go 20%. ;)

cool, thanks. I was just checking about tint today and the shop I stopped at told me the rear windows were done at 35% except for the hatch glass which was 20%. now I now foe future reference. thanks again.

Look at the corner of the window where the GM logo is. It tells you the tint % on each window. If I remember correctly it's 21% on the factory tinted windows. Make sure they don't give you cheap tint that will turn purple after a couple of years.

That does look nice. I just got my front windows tinted yesterday as well. In Texas, we couldn't get away with matching the tint as the rest of the car because it is illegal. The front windows have to be lighter than the rest of the windows, but they were able to match the tint color, just had to make it a little lighter.

It's illegal as all hell here in NY also, I just don't care. :D You are only allowed 70% on the fronts here in NY so pretty much any tint on your front windows is illegal. ;) I can live with an occasional tint ticket. It looks weird when the windows are two different shades.

Well, ROCK ON for making a statement. Of course it's not an assertively forced law here. I mean I've seen some cars with that mirrored window tint covering the car.

I got mine tinted last week also. The guy did mine 15% which illegal here in NC, but I know plenty of people w/ it like that. As long as you can find someone to pass your inspection, which I think I can :thumb:

I guess I'm lucky that a tint check isn't part of the NY state inspection yet. There is a bill that hasn't been passed yet that will make it part of our inspection if it goes through.

Your annual vehicle inspection. ;)

Yup, emissions is part of the annual inspection. Like a year or two ago New York went to sniff testing our exhaust set up to make sure it passes and bar coding our stickers. NY inspection is becoming harder and harder to pass.

Here in NC they check your emissions along w/ other things like brake lights, wipers, horn, tint, etc.

They totally got rid of that in oklahoma. They don't check anything. Me personally I'd love to pay 5 bucks a year to know that atleast most of the cars on the road are safe.

I wish an inspection cost $5.

Was $10.50 in TX forever. Then changed to $12.50 a couple of years ago. Now any car over 2 yrs old has to have emissions testing at inspection. Tack on another $27.00. New grand total - $39.50 That Sucks. I liked $10.50 better.

I guess Florida is cool with pollution cause we don't have it anymore either.Maybe were trying to fog out the old people so they will go back to New York.

In MI, inspection is only for the Coney Island restraunts! I have never been to a state where you can basically just get a plate for anything....

We get everything inspected.......wheels lights, glass, and emissions. The funny thing is that they have the right to test anything you may have added such as fogs, etc. And we get to do this every year. The comforting thing is that they jack your front end and check to make sure that everything is stable. All this for a measly 29 bucks (most of which goes back to the state to line someone's pockets)

well, we got our windows tinted at 35% and didn't like the way it looked. luckily the tint developed some kind of cloudiness between it and the glass so we got to change to 20% for free since they had to redo it because of the cloudiness. 20% looks much better too. now we just have to keep our eyes open for Wayne County Sherrifs since they seem to like tint offenders more than speeders or wreckless drivers.

LMAO. When you see a cop do you just roll your windows down or what?

That's what I do when I have to drive through Fairport,NY. I usually try and avoid there like a plague. Every cop of their force carries a tint and db meter. They are notorious for tint and stereo tickets. It is a small police force in a middle to upperclass suburb so the police don't have much anything better to do than take your money for small offences and hassle suburban want to be thugs.

I roll the windows down asap. it doesn't matter if its winter or raining or whatever. its easier to do a quick wipe of the door panel(if its snowing or raining) than it is to take a $70.00 hit in the wallet.

and if by chance I still get pulled over in the rain/snow I'll usually park right at a nice large puddle so the cop has the get splashed a time or 2. its just my little payback. ;)

C.h. If I Was To Take My Ride To Ny I Could Possibly Get A Fine?

Yup. No more than 70% tint is allowed on the front windows in NY, just like it came from the factory. I just paid my tint ticket. It was a $50 fine with a $35 surcharge. Most cops in my area seem to not care about tint though so you probably won't even get stopped.

There are a couple of ways. The easiest way is to just tint over them and live with the little air bubbles. The next easiest way is to put a piece of black vinyl over them and tint around the vinyl.

ok so you tint around the vinyl and not over it..That would have been my next question. Thanks Cap
