Ya, Honda Si pulls up beside me(fart can, silly wing on the back, nice paint though). Fart can revs really pi$$ me off:mad:. Young 'un looks at me and laughs at me.:wtf: Well I did what any old timer would do. Set the launch control and drop it into I gear(SS auto, GM Stage 1). Crawled off the lights with him, then let all h*ll break loose. I pulled away from him like he was standing still. Why don't these Honda drivers do their homework and leave us HHR SS guys/gals alone:roll:. I know this young dude in the Si will from now on.
For those that are going to attack me, I've got my flame retardant suit on already.

jmarines, that's a little bit more than a wing and a fart can  :thumb:

You can't just shun all imports as some that are done right can really fly, it's the average "kid" that adds... well....er.... a fart can and a wing and thinks he has a rocket that has ruined their reputation.
In the past, the imports were the cars that you could buy at a good price and get lot's of power out of them if done properly. Now that GM has the LNF, there is some good American cars that can be modded effectively without breaking the bank.

hasnt crank walked... I shouldnt have a problem with that.. mines auto... crank walk usually happens to sticks. I have toyed about the idea on putting my baby on the bottle... maybe a 70 shot to help with my takeoff and spool time (60 trim turbo takes alot of spool time)but the thing is already fast enough and I just built it to pass the time. I know what u mean by the fart cans... there isnt a day that goes by that some punk kid pulls up to me and revs it up.... my son laughs and gives me the "nod" to rev mine up... as soon as the BOV vents to atmospere they usually back off... but somtime the corvette guys wanna play... then I have to put them in there place.... won sum.... lost sum.... its all about the rush in my opinion...

Is that true? is NOS illegal on the street (installed and/or used)? Or is it just illegal in Canada?

gcsd3742
03-27-2009, 08:43 AM
its illegal only if the bottle is open...thats why i got this for:NOS Remote Bottle Opener!

The NOS Remote Bottle Control is the perfect add-on convenience accessory for electronically turning a nitrous bottle on and off. A simple flick of the switch eliminates the chore of opening the trunk to turn your bottle on or off. It also serves as a safety shut off valve. Operates on 12 volts DC and fits in line with 5 lb. or larger nitrous bottles. Comes complete with all necessary hardware, wiring and easy to follow installation instructions. Attaches in-line with our Standard bottle valve.

NOTE:Additional fitting required for -6AN supply line connection.

This was written in a turbo forum in the U.S. Sorry can't remember which one.

According to my police type friend it is a $500 fine for having N2O in the car, hooked up or not.
A tank with N2O the police consider flamable, I don't know why because its just Nitrogen and oxygen (both innert gasses), but I guess it is under pressure so I am assuming the paperwork would be the same if you were carrying any pressurized tank in a vehicle, properly strapped down or not.

Yonash

to the best of my knowledge you can have it in the car, but the bottle must be empty if it is in the car, and the bottle can not be connected to the plumbing on the street. this is what i understand the law is in CA.

Is it illegal to carry small tanks of pressurized propane in your car? Helium for balloons at a party? If the answer is no, then your friend is full of BS. Nitrous is not flammable. Your police friends can consider the sky to be neon purple, but that doesnt' mean it's not blue. Nitrous forms the oxygen leg of the fire triangle, not the fuel leg.

In most areas, it's not illegal unless it's connected for the purpose of injecting nitrous into your engine. If you disconnect the feed line from the bottle on the street, you should be good to go but check your laws by state to make sure. Nitrous powered IC rings and such are completely legal.

As far as paperwork, it usually has a minimum weight at which paperwork is required, and a standard five or ten pound bottle is far below the weight requirement in most cases.

As far as Texas, I can't find any law stating that nitrous is illegal for street use. If anyone finds other information, I'd like to know.

In general, don't as a cop about nitrous. They don't like it, and they'll tell you lots of BS about anything they don't like. It's up to citizens to know the law.

For everyone else, please stop saying NOS. It's nitrous oxide, nitrous, or n20. Parts of this thread sound like dialogue from F&F.

Did you seriously just link to the Bill of Rights?

A typo is different from an intentional misnomer Eric. How many times have you corrected my spelling anyway? More than what I can count on one hand. I don't mind. I think you're doing me a favor. In the same way, I think I'm doing others a favor by teaching them the proper way to speak about performance parts without giving themselves away as n00bs.

The fact is that you'll get laughed at by anyone who's been around the performance aftermarket for a while if you use terms cribbed from or popularized by The Fast & the Furious or other similar movies. The term NOS being used to refer to a nitrous injection system is the most common example.

I have seen people get made fun of at car meets, on forums, and at shops over and over. Instead of poking fun myself and being an jerk, I educate.

If you or anyone else doesn't want to listen, fine. While it's a man's right to say what he wants, it's mine to point and laugh.

I really dont know whats legal/not legal but I do know that all the times Ive been pulled over, The police officer has never asked me to open my hood or trunk. I even had a couple of police officers pull me over just to ask me what my gauges in my gauge pillar are for. After a lenghly confersation about boost and air/fuel mixture... He started to understand. One time he even asked if he could take it for a drive... Which we went to a deserted street... where he got on the pedal... and left in his patrol car with a huge smile. My eclipse was not built to race.. it was built as a father son project where I could have some quality time with my son. But as alot of people know... once u start somthing like building a car... it just keeps going and going. Its nice to KNOW that the power is there... do I use it on occasion... u bet (who wouldnt)... but most of the time I am the person that people are honking at because I'm doing the speed limit... where everyone else is such in a hurry. I would take it to the track but its not legal at all the tracks Ive been to in the houston area... my main problem is I need a roll cage because of my Hp but I refuse to clutter up my interior just because some one else tells me I should. Another reason is My door handles are shaved off.... Go figuare...lol
