View Full Version : raised white letter tires
GDZHHR 06-01-2006, 09:55 PM Anyone know of a company that makes RWL tires that'll fit 16s?
P215/55R16
I looked around some and couldn't find any this size.
Redlines would be nice too. Checked Coker, but they don't make them any larger than 15's.:(
scaleguy 06-01-2006, 10:32 PM Check Diamondback Classic Radials, they might have what you are looking for. I will let you know if I find anything else.
Lee3333 06-01-2006, 10:58 PM They used to sell special white paint (applied like chalk) to make raised black letters into white letters.
cj krause 06-03-2006, 08:48 AM I have checked around and no one has anything but those lil expensive pens.
i did check Diamondback Classic Radials and here is his note;
"I have seen an ad for some white paint to paint white letters in Hot Rodder Magazine but question how well it will work. We have not found any white paint that will block out the antioxidants in the black rubber in order to remain white."
laters, time to put amps in

That's what I'm running into, no tires...paint sucks.
Though the bad attempt at the paint shows me how good it could look.
I'll just keep trying.
What about a slightly different tire size? (right now P216/55R16)
I am lowering and would have to consider that but are there other options for size that would work on my 16s without causing issues after lowering?
GDZHHR 06-12-2006, 02:10 PM This is the look I'm going for.

I love the way it makes the tires stand out. This was done with a tire paint made by Sharpie.
One thing I noticed though after we made the runs at Bristol was that on the passenger side the top half of the paint was gone. Also noticed that that side of the engine compartment was MUCH hotter.
Any ideas what caused this?
goldy 06-12-2006, 04:38 PM I'm really starting to like that victory red color!:thumb:

Thanks, I like your sig reference. Though I prefer 3:15.
Anyway, are ya gonna be at the event in Peoria in August? It should be a lot of fun!

Wanted a cleaner looking sig so I went with the scrolling userbars.
Thanks for the comment on the tires. It just convinces me even more that I want the RWL tires. The paint is ok from a distance but too much of a PITA to keep doing over and over.
Still trying to figure out why the outside half of the letters on the passenger side came off.
courthousedeb 06-12-2006, 05:57 PM These are the exact size you are looking for

Here's a post I started a while back. They are 16" tires but are just a tad larger but should still work...plus they are NASCAR Goodyear Eagle #1 tires

My guess would be taking the banked turns at that race track making all of your vehicles weight shift to your drive wheel. With all of those left hand turns it makes sense. Your tires heat and pressure probably had a factor in it also.

Thanks again Deb!
We've had this conversation before. Look in the other thread (http://chevyhhr.net/forums/showthread.php?t=2374) and you'll see I'm already looking at the NASCARs.
On the others, you're right they are the right size but don't make the same mistake me and others are making. The company may show RWL in the photo but all that means is that one size of that model has them, not all.
The BSW in the tire specs means black sidewall. Thanks for trying though.
The closest I've been able to find is the Eagle #1 NASCAR I listed in the other thread.
O6ChevyHHR 06-12-2006, 07:30 PM let you know if i find ant whilr letter tires for you.

Well &%*$&%*, the friggin description says RWL...but now I see what you're talking about. Kinda misleading in my opinion. Learning more and more every day about car stuff. Looks like we're looking at same tires...me being a NASCAR fan, I love the logo. They would have been a real scream at Bristol.
Good luck in your search. If I run across anything else, I'll be happy to let you know. You wouldn't think it would be so hard to find RWL in 16" would ya? They come in 14 & 15 and 17 & up. What gives with the 16's?

It really bites......you see a pic and it has the RWL but the you check the sizes and ALL except the 16s are RWL. That or the 16's are truck tires which don't do me any good either!

Thanks...I'll keep searching...I want RWL tires too...but can't really justify taking of stock tires and spending another $500+ for the NASCAR tires I want. So...in the meantime, since others want RWL's and don't want or like the NASCAR tires, I'll see what else I can find.
Besides...all I'm doing right now is watching Unique Whips make over Tony Stewart's hearse.

When I put those in my shopping cart, it shows as:
General XP 2000 II 215/60 R16 94T BLT
That "BLT" stands for "Black Serrated Letters" - they are not RWL's in that size.

Deb, those are nice and I saw them too, but in the size you linked to it is a BLT, black letter. the description is for that style in general. Some of them are available in RWL, just not 16's. and I hate to give you bad news, it bummedme out, but they've stopped making the NASCAR tires. Officailly they have been on back order for 8 months. My tire guy says that my only hope on those is to find a shop that still has some in stock.
I've checked close to 20 different brands and none of them have RWL that are in 16's that will fit the HHR. 15's & 17's are all over the place.
I've basically given up and I practally live on the net. Good luck and please let me know if you find any!
DaJoker 08-02-2006, 11:30 PM According to this: http://www.bfgoodrichtires.info/index.php?a=tires.technical_details&name_copy=passenger.42
BF Goodrich makes a 16 RWL in the P225/50R16 size which may work. (look at 4th line down)
BlackHHR 08-02-2006, 11:34 PM Your right those should work. And BF's are very good tires.

So do you have RWL's yet?LOL
DaJoker 08-02-2006, 11:39 PM Btw, it's their Radial T/A line of tires.
And PRICEY (http://www.discountedwheelwarehouse.com/Store_Detail.cfm?ID=143932&InfoID=4278&ShowLarge=True) even at "discount"
GDZHHR 08-02-2006, 11:45 PM Only problem is that the site you found those on is their Asia and the Pacific area site. Those aren't available in the states.
U.S. site (http://www.bfgoodrichtires.com/bfgapp/index.jsp)
Thanks for trying.:(
SoCalHHR 08-03-2006, 01:17 AM And the RWL search continues...
cj krause 08-03-2006, 02:22 AM i have emailed over 25 tire mfg companies and large tire dealers to see if anyone carries a RWL tire
emails posted when received back
Sonny Martin 08-03-2006, 10:04 AM I know that the Harley dealers have paint pens for tires in white and orange. That orange might look cool on an orange HHR. Sonny Martin
SBHHR 08-03-2006, 10:22 AM I think some white walls would be cool:D

We've tried that and it comes off. :( It also didn't look too good from close up either. Thanks for the suggestion though.
We are a determined group and will not give up until we find what we want.

whitewalls are easier to find than RWL
cj krause 08-03-2006, 11:26 AM these are just outlined white letters but they are H rated and in stock
i checked shipping and it was $22 a piece for my zip code

they dont have RWL's but they have a wide white wall 16 and probably a 17 too
Thank you for your recent inquiry into Coker Tire. We regret to say that we do not carry that tire size nor anything close in a RWL. The closest we offer is P215/65r16 in a Wide White Wall American Classic tire. We apologize that we could not help you any further but thank you for visiting Coker Tire. Have a nice day !

I may be wrong but aren't 70's too big? Mine has been lowered too. And those all look like truck/suv tires.
I really do appreciate all the help!
cj krause 08-03-2006, 03:55 PM mine isnt lowered
lowered makes it that much harder
for those of us w/o being lowered there is tons of room for a taller tire
i just talked w Carolyn from Cooper Tires at the HDQ. amazing she called me
they only make a Cobra GT in a 295/55/R16 and that is one wide tire.
she also told me that they have not made a Cobra GT in 215/55/R16 since before 2000
if you find one you need to check the DOT # on the tire to see how old it is and here is how you know
digits 1-2 ---- where it is made
digits 3-4 ---- Size of the tire
digits 5-7 ---- model of the tire
digits 8-9 ---- week of year tire was made
digits 10 is for tires 99 and earlier--- so if it is a 6 it is 96 and 9 for 99
digits 10-11 for 2000 and up 00 for 2000, 01 for 2001 and so on
thought you might like to know this next time you buy your tires
BlackHHR 08-03-2006, 06:32 PM I stopped at some tire shops and no one has anything that will fit. CJ is right!
I asked the shop that I bought my coopers from and they said that they do not make them anymore. I got the last 4 old stock tires. I'll keep searching here and see what I can find.
GDZHHR 08-03-2006, 07:01 PM Thanks for the effort!!
