I finally put in my shortened KYB shocks in the rear. They are 1 1/2 inches shorter than the stock ones and much stiffer to compress and expand. Now, I am anxious to see if that horrible grinding noise in cold weather stops. The plastic piece around the old shock was broken, so it could have been the problem.

Now all I have left to fix is the code problem everytime I accelerate hard.

I am very interested in how these work for you, I am looking for replacements to work better with my gl's. Could I get the part #'s?

Wonder how these would work with my cobalt SS springs.

I got them from HHR Boutique-they are the standard KYB for the HHR that are specially modified-shortened-by a place in California. The cost is 75 each (standard shocks are 35).

So far, they seem great-but they are much stiffer than the stock ones. I used to have sports car with very stiff suspensions, so I like it. I just came home with my son in the car and took the corner down my block at about 35 mph-enough to screech the tires and the car had absolutly NO body roll at all. But I also have the Progress sway bar and the leveling springs in the back.

As for the working with the SS springs, if they are shorter, than these shocks should prevent the springs from falling out, which is the main reason I got them myself.

I dont know-I never got the name of the shop that did the mod. Call HHR Boutique and they can find out for you. They are very helpful.

My SS/TC rear springs stay snug when body lifted..

I checked that the day I installed the springs..

If anyone is un-sure.. Easy to check yours & make sure.. Jack, jack-stands + 15 minutes ..
