View Full Version : Ipod Mounting
brefer33 11-07-2005, 11:06 AM Has anyone found a good mounting location for their ipod? Right now i have an older model and will be upgrading to the iPod video soon and want something that doesn't interfere with anything, but looks good. I can't seem to find a mount i like or that will flow with the dash. everything out there is either vent mount, cup holder (not a great choice for HHR owners), or suction cup (why would you even do this? so ugly)
If anyone has come up with a solution please post it...i'm sure i am not the only one with this dilemma. thanks!
captain howdy 11-07-2005, 11:43 AM I think if Chevy was going to make such a big deal about the iPod they should have integrated a dock into the dash.
SIHHR 11-07-2005, 01:29 PM I have a PSP and I was not too happy with the suction cup mounts either. I was thinking for making something custom but I cant seem to find the parts I was looking for. I visted to craft stores nothing helped me reach me idea
SIHHR 11-07-2005, 01:36 PM Try this link they make different mounts http://www.arkon.com/

SIHHR 11-07-2005, 05:07 PM Who makes the rocbox adam?

tonydetiger 07-02-2006, 01:18 PM I have a Belkin MP3 player accessory that sits in the cupholder. Unfortunately, my MP3 player isn't an iPod. So, most of the accessories that are iPod approved don't work for me.
I've tried one of those plastic no-slide pads that sit on the dash. Works great, if the car isn't moving. I'm tempted to go the low-tech route and just velcro my MP3 player to a good location on the dash.
I'm buying a remote for my MP3 player, just so I don't have to constantly juggle the thing out of the cup holder.
dbarberaz 07-02-2006, 03:59 PM I have an MP3 player, sit there are not many choices for things to help you out. What I did find was a cheap cell phone holder. Works great just used the 3M tape on the back and everything holds fine. No problems getting to any buttons or blocking the view of anything.

tonydetiger 07-02-2006, 05:06 PM i have the same MP3 player that you do. either the location you put it in, or just above the hazard light button would be a good place to mount it.
Somebody needs to get really inventive and fabricate/install an MP3 holder on the armrest.

PDX HHR 07-03-2006, 11:54 AM FlexDock from Ten Technology? If so, I have it and here's my review: Excellent mount, provides power and even charges the iPod. The color almost perfectly matches my grey interior. Allows me to move the iPod to various angles for viewing and does not obstruct anything. There is only one downside... and it's my HHR's fault! The cig lighter is poorly attached to the gauge panel which means the metal casing that the mount slides into will spin. (causing the mount AND my iPod to fall left or right depending on my turn) So far, I've tried a larger 'O' ring to get a tighter fit... but it'll still move if the turn is hard enough. The next step for me is to epoxy from the backside the ring of the 12V reciever to the panel. I love this mount, but I'm tired of the pendulum movement!
MrVette 05-31-2007, 12:21 PM Thought I would bump this to see if anyone has come up with any other solutions.

Bracketron and Panavise both make custom bezel mounts for the HHR that can accomodate an iPod holder. I have both enroute. When I get it installed, I will post pics.

HHR is on page 5.

The base mount is about $30, and the iPod mount varies on the model/type you choose. I don't have a picture, but mine mounts just to the right of the radio, and is rock solid. The swivel mount allows the passenger to see the iPod as well. Love it.
jayhawker 06-01-2007, 07:37 PM Here's the bracketron I have in mine. I absolutely love it! The only downside is that it doesn't charge, it's just a holder for the Ipod.

Which would be great.....but they issued a "stop sale" on it and are re-designing it as we speak.

There are a bunch of other companies out there that make the same thing for roughly the same price. Check out crutchfield.com

Yeah, but I already paid for/had installed the GM PAL, and now I'm sitting and waiting for the replacement.:frown:
I have tried to upload pics of my Hardon Karmen Drive and play, ain't workin' sorry! But, it has a cool screen much like sirius radio, etc., It has a sweet little knob that mounts next to the gear shift..controls just like your Ipod but with the screen mounted right above the center compartment next to the windshield, you can keep your eyes on the road. It is a about $100. The Ipod sits in the center compartment above the radio, noone sees it, it charges the Ipod...pretty cool, really. I Have two Ipods running in my car at all times, I also have an Alpine stereo that plugs into another Ipod, and all the info shows up on the screen of the radio..that is really the way to go, but if you don't want to switch out the stock stereo, check out the Drive & Play. PDX, let us know how the proclip works out for you. I checked the website and that mount looks great. Let me know how it fits. It says mount is made for HHR.
Hamer1 06-05-2007, 09:21 PM I used the Griffen tuneflex (I have the 30 gig video) it doesn't get in the way of any controls. It works well but is a temporary fix until I can get the GM pal or something similar.
PDX HHR 06-07-2007, 01:47 PM The Proclip is great. Installed in about 5 minutes, has not budged since it was installed. A perfect fit. It even has a really nice felt liner that does not scratch my iPod. Could not be happier... OK, maybe if it was free.
scaleguy 06-07-2007, 02:42 PM I am planning on modifying the box on the dash and having my IPod in the box, out of sight and have the connection made behing the dash instead of the front, I hate cords and cables...

I find on sunny days stuff in that box gets quite hot.

You just convinced me PDX. I'm going with the proclip. Thanks for the update.:thumb:

Your right Goose. It is a bit pricey but it looks the cleanest. I use my ipod all the time and right now i just keep it in the first cup holder. My girlfriend freaks out every time she is in the car and i start fumbling around with it. She happens to be right about this one. I'll wait just a little longer. Fathers day is Sunday and i have thrown enough hints about this proclip. LOL...well we will see if i threw enough hints.
hnewagn 06-11-2007, 10:36 PM there is a post on here about the PRO-FIT INTERNATIONAL holder. I use mine for my smart phone.
